The book was unnecessarily wordy, so a ten-minute interaction, (with each character only speaking maybe two sentences to each other), required two chapters and 10% of the book. Every time they spoke, there would be a long explanation for WHY they said that.

It was also a bit difficult to follow, mainly because it was rife with one of my greatest book pet peeves: The narrative repeated the same events every time the POV changed between the main characters!

When a scene from the hero's POV would end, the heroine's would begin. But not from the end of the previous chapter! No, instead, she would begin from earlier in the day. Then, she would often go back in time further to include a story that happened days or weeks before (she might even add a THIRD story from even further back in time).

And then, she would suddenly be in the present again, to quickly end the chapter by describing the same scene we'd already read.

It made it nearly impossible for me to stay in the story, or to form any emotional attachment to the characters.dnf kindle-unlimited new2me1 Helen204 3

I really enjoyed this story. Bree moves to Silver Springs from NY to try and find herself after a failed marriage and rebound relationship. She doesn’t trust her judgment on men anymore and is taking a break. Of course she meets the hunky son of her employer. Jackson hates coming back home to where he was humiliated by his ex wife and hasn’t had a relationship since then. He is attracted to Bree and treats her badly to keep her away. Eventually Bree breaks through his resistance and Jackson finds himself ready to take a chance. I loved how these two fit together and even though Jackson acts an idiot sometimes I was rooting for them to stay together. I really wish the story was a bit longer. A epilogue would have been nice to give us a little bit more. Highly recommend. I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Merry Jelks-Emmanuel7,519 118

Jackson and Bree have both loved and was betrayed through that love. She chose to leave the city for a small town to get her head on straight whereas Jackson chose to leave the small town for the city to escape. They connect through his father and while there is a spark going off between them, they both are reluctant because of past heartaches and doubt. Can they get beyond their hurtful past for a chance at happiness.

He's grudgingly back to help while his dad is recovering. He ran to the city years ago after catching his ex cheating. She's his dad's new housekeeper and ran from the city after some bad relationships. He tries to ignore and avoid but Daddy dearest has turned into a matchmaker and dangerous in a wheelchair. Will she look past his rough exterior? Can he let go of the past?
This was a relaxing read and my first by this author. I look forward to reading more from them.

This is a dual pov, clean Romance. Bree and Jackson both have baggage they need to work through from old relationships. I couldn’t help but get frustrated with Jackson just all the other characters in the book. Bree is another character that you have to love. She is fierce and speaks her mind. Ben is another character I love because of his history and how he has held his head high and took on life. I’m hoping we can get Daniel’s story! Margie3,565 24

It’s not often that a happily ever after story will have you wondering if they really will, Zadie King will do just that. Bree and Jackson have such disastrous history with romance that you won’t be sure they can move past it, especially Jackson. Things go bad from the very beginning and just when you think okay, things are better, one of them starts remembering and thinking of the past. My heart hurt for both of them and I was cheering for them all the way. Diana564 5

Bree needs to get away from a bad marriage and a bad rebound. She wants to spend a year working on herself, so she buys a small cottage and takes a job as a housekeeper. Her boss asks his son to come home and work on some orders while he is down for the count. It seems Jackson and Bree have more in common than they realize but neither one is sharing their awful relationship woes. I love how natural the book feels when they interact. I d the funny and the sad interactions. Tanya13.8k 68

He is her boss son and is so far off limits and she has also two failed relationships behind her so she will not go there. Or will she? She knows she will need to stay well away from him but he saves her from disaster and that just may change it all. Will she fall for him? Will he fall for her? See just what is going to happen Ru4repeat364

“So, you just jumped to a conclusion.”

That quote from the book sums it up. I jumped to a conclusion that this "sweet" romantic comedy was the same sweetness I usually enjoy.
If I overlook the body lusting, I'm still slapped in the face with the cursing and blasphemy.
Word from the wise, don't jump to conclusions. Kathy Itson137

This is a cute, clean romance between Bree and Jackson who both come with baggage and don't want to start a relationship with anyone. But they soon find that they can't live without each other.
