Sinopsis

Broke and getting nowhere in life as a genetic scientist, a short research trip to Lake Tahoe is just what Hunter Pierce needs to recharge his batteries.

As an omega who's unable to shift due to a genetic defect, his family has never failed to let him know how worthless he is. When he finds his mate in Mitch Carnelian, the sexy hotelier at The Pines Resort, he questions his beliefs about his own weakness and his fear of love.

Bad-boy, black-bear shifter, and now hotel owner. Mitch Carnelian vowed never to return to his childhood hometown, but the death of his parents in a car accident forced Mitch and his brother to take over the family business. When he meets Hunter, the scientist who infuriates him as much as he and intrigues him, Mitch sees that there is more to life than work and ambition. For the first time in his life, he begins to think of a future with a mate and cubs of his own.

The race is on for Hunter and Mitch to find a way to overcome their prejudices and save the shifter community of the Sierra Nevada Mountains for an important reason—they're expecting a baby.

This is a standalone story with a happy ending and no cliffhangers. This story includes explicit love scenes and violence.

Pretty good really

Really enjoyable read. Interesting story and characters even if it wasn't super complex. Pretty short and basic, wish there was more to it. More about the pregnancy or family life on either side would have been nice. It just kind of ended and that was kind of disappointing but overall it was a pretty good little read. Rescued by Love

This is the first book of a brand new series - Sierra Nevada Shifters by Ursula Lupine. This is my first story by this author. I was looking for a romance, a shifter book in which the two main characters are mates, I wanted some humour, some tension, but mostly I wanted a loving relationship. I was eager after listening to the Sample to read the rest of the story. I was very pleased with this selection the more that I read. I really enjoy reading about Bear shifters and this story actually featured a Polar Bear shifter, Jackson Banks.

Jackson is in charge of recreation at The Pines Resort which he owns with his two cousins, a set of brothers - Mitch and Craig. Their parents had been in charge of the hotel and resort before leaving it to their sons. I assume that the brothers are also Polar Bears, though there are other types of Bears in the Lake Tahoe area, both shifters and regular wild Bears, for example wild Grizzly Bears. Another shifter Bear is the real estate agent, Andy.

Ms Lupine has a refreshing take on shifter lore. If shifter reaches the age of forty without finding his mate he goes feral. As that age approaches he has less and less control of his temper. The need for a mate and cubs is a strong desire. He just doesn't feel complete until he has his family. There are no mating bites. And the realization isn't always instantaneous. While there's attraction initially, mate recognition sometimes occurs afterwards.

Los Angeles native, Taylor Lopez is the newest resident of South Lake Tahoe. He's remaking a life since he's been given a second chance at it. Breaking up with his boyfriend, picking up and relocating from San Francisco to the picturesque Sierra Nevada area, is a opportunity for him to pursue a vocation he'd always wanted...being a Photographer. As well as creating a website for other photographers to upload and showcase their work. Taylor's anticipating a very harsh winter and he is planning to get accustomed to the wilderness as he goes out on to shoot his own photos.

It is during one of these jaunts that he spots a gorgeous buff swimmer as he takes panoramic shots of a picturesque view. The next thing Taylor remembers is being held in the arms of the broad shouldered muscular handsome blond. Right before harsh words are spoken to each other. Angrily they both return to their homes.

Once he has a chance to settle down and review what happened, Jackson to his horror figures out why he felt such an attraction to the dark haired cutie. He'd just voiced some terrible assumptions about his MATE! Would the man ever forgive him and give him a chance to make up for his boorish behavior? All Jackson knew is he had to keep trying, even if it entailed a little groveling to get into his mate's good graces.

So began the courtship of Taylor Lopez. Jackson pulled out all stops, some a bit clumsy, but he manages to charm himself into his mate's good graces. Now he just has to tell Taylor about Polar Bear shifters without being mistaken for a madman. His cousins tease him mercilessly. There is something else very important regarding shifters that Jackson forgets to tell Taylor. His protectiveness isn't one of them. Or that more than just Bear shifters exist, especially after an uneasy encounter with a swarmy man who turns out to be the Alpha of the area Grayback Wolf pack.

For those of you who enjoy a good mpreg story, here it is. There are romantic gestures, each vying to care for the other. Being spoiled and cherished are something that Taylor isn't used to. His past relationships weren't the best. His confidence and belly grow from all the attention and praise from his mate and cousins in law. And his own business acumen. All isn't sunshine and roses. The past doesn't stay buried. Then there's a missing mate. While a devious Wolf shifter enacts some retribution all of which lead to some very dramatic actions. And a wonderful HEA.

There are two more books planned and titled. Can't wait until they are printed. But there is no cliffhanger, only some questions left unaddressed. Then there are the two brothers / cousins - they also deserve their own stories and HEAs. Plan to reread when the next book is released. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

This was an okay story but I felt it could have used some editing or a good beta reader. I think that the author made connections that she didn't show in the story. One thing that was very different than the standard shifter lore and didn't make sense to me was the way that the couple was "mated". There was none of the usual biting or ceremony or anything. It seemed that they went from Jackson realizing that they were fated mates to being mated, able to sense each other and, in the case of Taylor, send a telepathic SOS, just from Jackson telling Taylor about it and Taylor accepting it. Also at one point Jackson speaks while he's a bear but didn't earlier when it would have a lot of sense to. Taylor was pretty accepting of suddenly finding out that he could get pregnant; it seemed that that scene could have used a little more work or drama or something. I feel things this could have been smoothed out and reconciled better with another set of eyes. So it was a quick read but not something I would reread. Not sure if I will give another in the series a try. kindle-unlimited m-preg paranormal ...more Leona Bowman836 2

Amazing story. This was definitely a true love story. I love the twist in the story. Which I am not going to say. But it shows that were all strong inside. You just have to have confidence. I started reading this story with my morning coffee, and now with my afternoon coffee. I just could not but it down. I can't wait to read about the two cousin mate. And how they came across the baby bear cub?
I was given this story for a honest review.
