This was an entertaining take on the story of Helen of Troy and those beguiled by her, as well as those who lost lovers to her.

It is a well written short tale containing key themes which when well told here, create a cracking yarn. Ambition, anger, betraysl, hate, love, lust, jealousy and regret all intermingle and play a central role. Adding to this excitement is family feuds, as well as God's and Goddesses behaving badly.

Holland brings together the key two tracks in this story together masterfully in an enchanting conclusion, which left me a very satisfied reader.

I'm glad I was made aware of this short gem of a book and highly recommend it. Elias5

Personally, I found this book very interesting to read. Especially after reading The Iliad and the Odyssey as it gives insight to the world of Greek mythology, how it began and also the hero Heracles. I enjoyed reading this and bonus it was a short simple read that told you the story behind the constantly mentioned hero and his backstory. It also tells of how his legacy helped in the battle of Troy. If you Greek mythology and enjoyed the Iliad and the Odyssey I would definitely recommend. David Cuatt106 1 follower

Tom Holland weaves a compelling story based on Greek myths but with several twists added. Heroes, gods, betrayal, love, revenge and all the elements of Greek drama are here. Well written, highly recommended...short enough to be read in one sitting. Glenys46 18

I don't swearing in books, and find it quite offensive when other words can just as easily be used. So sorry, but not a book I would recommend to others, as I didn't particularly enjoy it.1-quickreads tom-holland Alanpalmer92 3

Excellent short read. I shall have to read my Greek Mythology to determine if this is the genuine story or not but it keeps the reader interested with several well known stories such as the birth of Hercules, the judgement of Paris, Helen and similar. A great short read that keeps the excitement going and is in no way stuffy. Adventure on every page. FicusFan125 6

A short book about the Death of Paris of Troy. It has to do with a poison arrow. The majority of the book is telling the story of how the arrow came to be poisoned.

The main story is really the myth of Hercules: what he does, why he does it, how he ends up with poison arrows, who they end up with upon his death.

The Greek myths seem to be modern celebrity, where you assume that all the stars know each other. In the Greek myths its true. A participant of the Trojan war has the arrows and uses them on Paris.

I think there is a bit of bait and switch, the blurb should have been about Hercules and not really about Paris, who only has a few paragraphs.

Still its well written, interesting, and a light quick read. This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.Show full reviewfiction greek-gods greeks ...more Dave65 4

If you thought there was too much sex and violence on TV then the ancient Greeks had it all. Rape, castration, incest, cannibalism/infanticide, poisoning, more incest and infidelity...and that's just in the first dozen pages.

There is much re-telling of Greek mythology tied together with one central story in simple prose. Clearly influenced by Homer but not nearly as ambitious and obviously nowhere nearly as well executed.

d it.

Greek Gods

A nice little tale from Greek mythology. Quite an entertaining read but the few typos in this book, which appears to have been produced too hastily, rather spoil the experience. Maurice Fonk2

A brilliant little short read that ties together a lot of they mythology of ancient greece into a very readable short story. Loved it. Sarah Goode242 12

A rather basic retelling of classical mythology. Though the stories are well known, here they were woven together in a simple and even emotionally charged way. Anuszka Gojke102
