Unfortunately, his two-year-old, boy genius brother frequently steals Benjamin’s thunder, and many of Benjamin’s achievements go unnoticed. But, when a large supply of hyper-helium disappears from NASA headquarters at Cape Canaveral, it might just be the opportunity Benjamin needs to prove the strength of his abilities.

This fast-paced, upper middle grade novel is focused on action and adventure from the very beginning. Jokes, comic occurrences, and potty humor fill the dialogue and writing, making the book well suited to young readers with a taste for comedy. This design makes the narrative progress quickly, and readers will be enthusiastic about continuing on to one more chapter. Though there are no illustrations apart from chapter headings, the book nonetheless appeals to confident middle grade and early young adult readers thanks to its dynamic plot and humorous dialogue. The narrative itself is on the longer side, but an optional, free audiobook version can help readers through the story, if desired. Fans of Captain Underpants and Boss Baby will be especially pleased by this book.

In addition to its overall appeal to young people thanks to its content and delivery, this book is also well-written in general. A strong style and clear plot make the story stand out among middle grade novels, and as the first in its series, it does a good job of setting up the foundation for future installments. Advanced vocabulary challenges young readers to grow in their understanding of science and the world, which will appeal to youth with a desire for more complex literature that is also enjoyable to read. While humor is a primary feature of the book, there are also strong themes of family, intelligence, bravery, and the relentless pursuit of one’s dreams. All together, this is a positive addition to library collections for young readers, and it is a series starter that promises more fun to come. Book Reviewer2,493 217

Timothy Root's Benjamin Impossible: The Helium Heist is a captivating narrative that follows the adventures of twelve-year-old protagonist Benjamin Impossible. Tasked with a mission to retrieve his father's groundbreaking hyper-helium invention from NASA, Benjamin, accompanied by a robotic dog and his exceptionally intelligent younger brother Charlie, embarks on an exhilarating journey. The story unfolds in a world where the ordinary becomes extraordinary, featuring a flying houseboat and a plethora of high-tech gadgets that aid Benjamin in his quest.

The novel is a thrilling blend of humor and adventure, striking a chord with a younger demographic, particularly boys. It cleverly incorporates elements of humor akin to that found in "Captain Underpants" and the thrilling escapades reminiscent of "Secret Agent 6th Grader". Root's narrative thrives on its unpredictability and relatable character logic, making scenarios a cheese whiz twinkie wiener sandwich seem entirely rational. Root's vibrant storytelling is visually stimulating, suggesting it would transition well into an animated series or film. An innovative touch is the integration of QR codes linking to free audiobook chapters, an acknowledgment of diverse reading preferences, and a nod to the digital age.

Benjamin Impossible: The Helium Heist is an engaging and humorous read, particularly appealing to middle-grade children seeking a blend of humor, adventure, and imagination. Timothy Root's keen understanding of his audience shines through, promising a read that is as entertaining as it is relatable. This book is an invitation to a world where adventure awaits at every turn, and the impossible is merely a challenge waiting to be overcome. James Kundart1 review

A fast-paced read along with a spirited audiobook. Our 13-year-old listened to a chapter or two a night, without fail, until the book was complete. It helped him fall asleep but never put him to sleep!

Having known the author's other professional work for years, I was a little surprised by the early and omnipresent potty humor that started in chapter one and continued throughout. But the plot was age-appropriate and added a little bit of science fiction, along with science fact. We'll probably read any sequels too. Tanya13.6k 67
