I need a "petty DNF" tag. This time, my head exploded when the "older" character, who's in his early 30s, was described as "struggling to remember how to text."

Oh, for the love of all that is holy, how old is this author? I'm 65 and what I "struggle to remember" is a time before smartphones. I gave myself a reality check, which informed me that texting was common by the early 2000s, which is to say when this ancient 30ish person was in kindergarten, or, since he's Swedish, the Nordic equivalent thereof. If he struggles to remember how to text, he needs to be evaluated for CTE.author-ruins-own-book dnf hockey31 s15 comments ivy572 297

Just when I thought I’ve read all the really good MM hockey romance available, this one came along.
Relationship building is stellar.
The characters are three dimensional.

-Two goalies!
-Age gap
-I bagged my childhood idol
-team dynamics
-no angst, easy breezy
-Swedish culture

Good hockey to romance balance.
Theo and Niklas are definitely hockey players and not just two guys getting together that happen to play hockey.

Niklas, I just want to keep him in my pocket and carry him around everywhere with me. I heart him.

Could use some editing and IRL hockey it’s an unwritten rule you don’t take a slapshot on an empty net.

You know what? This author has barely spent any time developing the actual romance and relationship between these two while forcing me to climb an absolute mountain of tropes and cliches to even get this far, and now I’m supposed to crawl over the coals of angst as I watch them play the “it’s just sex” game? No. I’m not doing it.

3.5 stars rounded up. This was a sweet, predictable, low-steam hockey romance about a rookie goalie (Niklas) ending up on the same team as his idol (Theo) and falling headlong in love with him. It was relatively low-angst; Nik was such a sweet, sunny character that things just rolled off his back. He was a great foil to the reticent and stoic Theo. Theo wants to resist Niklas, he tries to downplay Nik's feelings for him as hero-worship, scared to ruin their careers by coming out, but he can't fight it in the end. We see some familiar faces from the author's other hockey books, but the side characters weren't fleshed out super well, although there's some decent hockey action. All-in-all, a pretty easy and pleasant read. age-gap-or-power-differential-mm forced-proximity-mm gfy-ofy-mm ...more5 s Tess2,005 26 Read

I’m borderline obsessive about hockey, which makes it hard to enjoy (without getting irritated) hockey romances that just aren’t realistic or reflective of how the NHL works.

[I didn’t realize until now that this author is Michaela Grey and it looks I had the exact same experience with the only book of hers I’ve ever read!]hockey paused-or-dnf-d2 s Kath263
