Sickening

I couldn't read this to the end, I thought I was reading more about a new life in a new country, it was just a catalogue of illness and how many animals were adopted and died. No joy, very disjointed, whoever thought this should be published should be sent back to school. Glad I didn't have to pay or would have been asking for a refund. Rubish!

Happy story

A bit too cat focused for me but an easy read with much to interest the would be expat types. 2 s Ellen Diver1 review

This is a worthy sequel to the author’s first book Another Day in Paradise.
A well written, delightful read especially for all animal lovers, it also covers issues that may concern people thinking of embarking on an adventure in another country.
Love Karen Telling’s style of writing, well done! 1 Danice H175 3

Great insight

Really enjoyed the stories, was helpful to read a bit more about the physical limitations of the author and loved the photos. 1 The Book405 10

Our Little Piece of Paradise is the second autobiography which picks up where the author’s first title, Another Day in Paradise, left off. In this memoir, Karen continues her story, as to how a young British couple built a new life, adapted to a different culture, overcame language barriers and finally became official citizens of the country they fell in love with. Karen’s first book this is a wonderfully written and heart warming account of the ups and downs that she, and her husband, Nick, faced as they settle into their new lives. Although the stories and anecdotes shared do jump around on subject matter, as Karen takes the reader back through time and the significant events that stood out for her, I did not find this particularly distracting as a reader. I really enjoyed reading the interspersed accounts of Karen’s animal rescue work and the fur babies who touched their hearts, in between all of the general day to day challenges of working in a foreign country which were interesting and thought provoking.

Karen and Nick continue to plant deeper roots in Portugal in Karen Telling's Our Little Piece of Paradise. They see cats come and go as they seek to save, neuter and nurture the many feral cats and they house a few special dogs as well. They spend tender time with their elderly parents and befriend many locals as they work in their chosen fields. She and Nick take a few small vacations to places Lisbon and Southern California. Karen even takes the necessary steps to become a Portuguese citizen as they both start to slow down and smell the roses!1 Sandra85

The Kindle formatting showed marked improvement in this sequel, but still not professional level with inconsistent formatting errors that were too numerous and distracting, plus run-on paragraphs. In both books some paragraphs were 19 full lines long. It appeared to be an early draft rather than polished finished product.non-fiction W Scott7

It’s all about cats.

If you want to read about a Brit’s obsession with rescuing cats…for the entire book, this is for you. Her writing style is fine but I just felt that there were so many more interesting things in The Algarve she could have written about besides the cats she rescued and then euthanized. Jean1,209 6

A sequel to Another Day In Paradise which I really enjoyed reading about how she coped with moving to Portugal and her life there, but this one had more stories of her cats which I'm not a cat person so was disappointed, just wanted to know how she managed after her opp.1 Delwyn Dickson30

I was delighted to find part 2 of Karen's memoir and, once again, thoroughly enjoyed it, from start to finish! I am in awe of their work with animals as well. Dr Howard48

A very good follow on from the first in the series.

I read the first of Karen‘s books and enjoyed it very much. I decided to read the second and it continues very much in the same theme with some lovely stories of small incidents in her life. I am very impressed with her considerate care and attention that she pays to the stray cats and dogs that encounters in her town and how she takes them in and looks after them until they are safe to be released into the wild. I’m very glad that I read these two books.1 Anne-Marie Douglas1 review

A thoroughly enjoyable sequel to Another Day in Paradise. This book brings you right up to date with Karen and her husband Nick as they settle into life in Carvoeiro. The stories of their rescue animals are particularly heartwarming.1 Rhona Brown1 review
