Cute story-line but not enough character development. I never really connected with them. Don't get me wrong... I d them but never really felt anything while reading and it wall wrapped up too quickly for me.

The Little White Christmas Lie by Kristy Tate
Cute holiday story of a woman who's a writer and she's on her way to an inn.
Millie's never met the woman who called but has a feeling she needs to be there.
On the train she meets a man who's heading in that general direction. In her travels she runs off the road and the man on the train, Carson-his grandmother owns the inn.
He rescues her and gets her to the doctor then back to the inn where she stays longer than expected through all the activities planned for friends and family. Before you know it others have them engaged...
The inn is in trouble and the pageant doesn't go off as planned and one little girl blames herself. In midst of the fighting she leaves and the others send out people with flashlights to find her.
Millie thinks she's overstayed and leaves with her ex when she realizes who it is that she wants to be with. She's bought the inn and Carson doesn't think she needs to do that-it's a money pit.
Lots of misunderstandings and you wonder if they will ever see eye to eye.
Love hearing of the events that occurred to celebrate the holiday at the inn but wish there had been more. Loved the scenery and surroundings.
Excerpt from Making music is included at the end.

This book was okay and I was enjoying it for the most part. It was insta-love but still a decent read. Then all of the sudden things just kept happening that didn’t make a whole lot of sense. One minute things are great and then literally the next page Millie leaves without saying goodbye or anything. It didn’t make any sense. I kept flipping back pages wondering if I missed something. Then Carson doesn’t even question why she left and a whole bunch of other drama happens and then the book is over. I was left with a ton of questions. I would have probably enjoyed the book if it had been longer and more fleshed out in the end.third-person2 s Linda3,238 2

I REALLY LIKED THIS CHRISTMAS STORY!! I thought that romance author Millie Cruise was smart for not going to the party that her ex would be attending with his new fiancée and decided that she would accept the invite that Joy, the owner of a quaint inn, and she had planned to not stay long, with just enough time to miss the event. What she had not planned on was meeting Joy's grandson on the train! I d the way that Carson Trent took care of his grandmother by sending money as the inn was a money pit and his sister had taking up residence with her little girls. With Emily about to pop out another baby, he thought that her husband would take her home soon, As Millie flipped her car on a snow covered curve the only way to see her at the hospital was to tell a white lie.

Millie watching the busy shoppers, telling her cat that it was just the two of them this year for Christmas. A call disturbing her solitude, from a friend of her grandmother, wanting her to come, and give the inn a little publicity.
Maybe this would get her out of those senseless parties. Catching the train, and trying to get to her, fell into a man’s lap. Said that only happens when he wears a Santa suit. He was going to his grandmothers, said it was a Santa emergency. For her, she said she was a travel writer, and going to Chicory, NY to check out and In . Coincidence, or was his grandmother up to something. Cute story, of how a chance meeting brought love.1 Megan ByrdAuthor 6 books37

Best selling romance author Camille Harper accepts an invitation to an inn in Chickory, NY. Carson, her seatmate on the train out of town happens to be the grandson of the owner. When Millie is in a car accident Carson pretends to be her fiancé to make sure she’s okay. Her ex and his fiancé turn up at the inn as well as her best friends. The inn is in financial trouble and Millie wants to help. Does Carson Millie or her money?

A short, sweet romance. Manuscript could use a little more editing for grammatical issues.2019-books-read1 Richard Goodrum2,580 9

I enjoyed Millie, Carson, and several other characters in this story. While it's a good story, the characters of Rocco, Liam, Jenna, and Dorrie almost demolished it for me. Who brings an extortionist to initially appears to be a romantic comedy.

Scary. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.1 Holly1,436 10

This was a good read.

This was a good novella that was written by an author that is new to me. It's a clean romance.1 Lorena Keech38 2

The book has a promising premise. A romance writer struggles with her break-up from a long time boyfriend during the Christmas holiday. With no family, she decides to respond to a quirky phone message. A woman has called, saying she was once a friend of the writer's family and she hopes the writer can give her some help with her struggling B&B.
Using a quick trip to the B&B as an excuse to miss a party at which her ex will appear with his new girlfriend, the writer boards a train and has a meet cute with a man also enroute to the inn.
All good up to this point, and than the story goes completely off the rails...
I can assume the author is attempting quirky and instead gets indecipherable. Characters are introduced for no reason, story lines peter out, logic is thrown out the window and all and all, the book disintegrates into goop. Sally734 26

The Little White Christmas Lie is the perfect holiday read. Kristy Tate is a new-to-me author, but this first read of hers definitely won’t be my last. It’s got everything you need to satisfy you: a chance meeting and hidden identity, undeniable instant attraction, two people with sad pasts and commitment phobia who need and want love and are made for each other but don’t know it – yet. Add some bad weather, animals that need to be looked after, an inn that needs to be saved and some meddling relatives and you have an absolutely delightful Christmas story, just the thing to bright your holidays.

I was sent a free book and am voluntarily leaving this honest review. All opinions are my own.2022-read Stephenee1,677 44

This was a short, sweet read that packed the punch of a full length novel! The author did an amazing job with making the characters feel they were in the world of the characters and spending their time at the Inn in Chickory, NY with the meddling characters and the fun and excitement of the accident prone cow!

The characters are fun, they are relatable and the reader really wants to become friends with all of them - especially Grandma Joy. The reader won't be disappointed once they start reading this - it's a lot of fun and a lot of laughs!

Don't hesitate to grab this book and add it to your TBR list - but maybe move it to the top - you won't be sorry! christmas Ollie131 10

5 SENTENCE REVIEW

Shortly: a Nora Roberts wannabe. Firstly, please do not treat this as a 'book', it's more of a short story really - you go through it in about 2h. This is the main reason why I gave it 3 not 2 stars, as it simply lacks the volume to be less shallow than it is. Don't get me wrong, it's quite uplifting and pleasant, but it follows a very 'Nora-ish' structure, just without half of the necessary content to let it spread its wings properly. I'd definitely to see that writer in a 300-pages book and see how she would deal with deepening her storylines and filling in all those pages. Deb Blackbourn295 11

A Different 12 Days of Christmas

This story was probably the most different type of Christmas story I have ever read! The story begins & ends with traffic accidents. In between, the owner of an inn, her family & friends put together a celebration of the 12 Days of Christmas. This is a book that anyone could read. I recommend that people DO read it! It puts a twist into everything they may consider normal! Lisa SwintonAuthor 24 books190

Kristy Tate does a wonderful job of collecting some favorite romance tropes into one story.

If you holiday, fake relationships, celebrity, and small towns, then you are in the right book.

I had fun with the hangups both Millie and Carson had to overcome to be together. Plus a matchmaking grandmother in the mix added even more holiday spice.

It's a sweet story you'll enjoy best with a side of gingerbread men and a mug of cocoa. holiday sweet-romance1 Leslie Books and Socks Rock760 21

Overall I d the story but there could've been more. The romance seemed to move really fast which I didnt think was believable. Yes they got along well on the train and then after the accident, Carson couldn't leVe her side and had to be by her? Her ex and his girlfriend show up, there could've been more drama. Sweet ending. vicki zimmerman1,180 3

A sweet, clean Christmas romance

A love-at-first-sight, great romance.
Not sickeningly sweet, as some clean romances tend to be. Just a great romance, with a likable H and likable h, and no goofy ‘angst’, ‘intrigue’, or ‘suspense’ as so many romance writers think we want, or need. Just a great romance, with a great hea. Beth900 15

This was a cute Christmas romance, part of my annual binge. I'd say 3 1/2 stars. Others commented that there was not much character development, and that some parts of the plot didn't make sense. That might be true, but it didn't really detract from my enjoyment. Maybe that's because there were no annoying characters, and the story had just the right (small) amount of dramatic tension in amongst just the right (moderate) amount of humor.1 Jeanne Johnston1,411 14

Weirdly absurd

The great irony here is I've often disparaged bad romance novels as being perfect for bad Hallmark channel COVID in this story, Millie is actually one of those writers.

Here, though, the story is ridiculous, frequently funny, and the happy ending doesn't make me want to puke. Sometimes, sappy can be a good thing. Patricia287 1 follower

I d this book enough to read it straight through, ignoring all my chores. It was just watching a Hallmark movie. Even though Christmas is past, I was in the mood for a quick clean romance. I think it could have had less traffic accidents, and money solves anything problems, but I still d it. Jean Hall1,729 21

I thought it was a cute, funny story although some of what happens seem surreal. Carson definitely has quaint and quirky relatives. I d Millie and Carson together although I thought she suddenly left when he wasn't there without leaving a note. Nice ending although they seemed to fall in love way too quickly for me. christine697 4

A Christmas comedy romance

This is the best funny romance I've ever read. This book is filled with quirky antics from the characters that makes it very interesting and so entertaining you can't put it down. The characters are very likable and memorable . I highly recommend this contemporary romance. Pat Christie2,227 2

A sweet romance with a happy ending.

She's a famous author just wanting to not be alone for the holidays. He's headed home to help out family, they end up sitting together on the train. From there things get interesting, every interesting.

Good quick read

Millie gets a strange call and decided to follow up on it. On the train she meets Carson and the fun begins. The call Millie gets us from Carson's grandmother, so both are headed to the same place. What happens next is fun and romantic J.J. LairAuthor 6 books47

A little romantic comedy of a story. They meet early in the story so you know what will happen. Along the way, you get the Pigtail league, a relationship in therapy, camels, gangsters, and heroism. I laughed out loud at parts.

As long as I don’t think about the details of the story, because there are too many things that just don’t really work out, it’s a typical Christmas romance novella. Short and sweet with instant love and a HEA. Tonya D Flores220 3
