This simply didn't work for me, sadly.
It lacked what you might call 'body', in the same way that a poor craft beer can be watery and disappointing. The book was too short in that it lacked character development, but conversely too long, with scenes which dragged. I couldn't muster any enthusiasm for or connection with any of the main characters, and without that, the world-building wasn't strong enough to carry me through.
Very unusually, I guessed the ending. I usually prefer just to suspend my disbelief and go along for the ride. In fact, I mostly finished it to double-check if I was correct after all.
It's too sweary for a YA novel, so not sure if I would recommend it to emerging teenage readers either. Sorry!1 2 comments UK38
