Extremely Realistic!!

William Stanek has definitely been there, done that. The fear he described the first time in combat was right on. I am speaking solely from the airman's perspective, ground combat is a different animal. The way he described those who are afraid but do not let themselves be consumed by it. They are still able to do their jobs. Then there are those who shit their pants and freeze up. The only thing you need to pay attention to, this story is not the complete book. You will need to buy the other three. I have done it and I am starting on number 2 book right now. Well done mr. Stanek. Buy this book! Henry Patel7

Raw, real, at times surreal

Kudos to the author for his brilliant writing that stunningly captures places and events in time and let's the reader live them as the author lived them. This is how nonfiction should be written.

The author says he wrote it as he lived it, and from the reading, you know he did. Action and drama unfolds and you can't help but be swallowed whole by everything that's happening. Chuck Schmidt7

a memory

Military memoirs aren't something I read normally but I was drawn in by the description and the promise of a true account. The author has a style that helps you see what he saw, experience what he experienced, in vivid detail. Stirring, haunting, moving to think the guy lived through all this while I was having dinners in my dining room. Tony Clarke7

Go USAF!

As a grunt, I lived war on the ground but often wondered what flyboys went through. After reading this detailed account I wonder no more and have a grudging new respect for flyers. I've already ordered the next one and plan to read the whole series. Fascinating, fantastic writing and a gifted author. Dennis Rogers10

Intense drama

Storytelling done right by a guy who lived it and wrote what he lived. Very good mix of drama, history and action. Very intense at times with lulls that are equally as compelling. Matt Berns28

A must READ

Anyone who s memoirs should read this. It's not often you get a true firsthand account written as events are happening. Most memoirs are written years after the fact with the author filling in the dots. Tracy Ewart8

a snapshot out a time

Not something I'd normally read, and much more intense than expected. I'm going to get the others too. The drama is what hooked me but the writing is what kept me going. Diane Crawford17

A riveting account

Stanley says in the forward that this is the story of the men and women he served with, and it is. Stunning and fantastic, and also too real since he wrote it as he lived it. Linda Berns27 1 follower

Five Stars!

This is a very good book and I give it five stars. I ordered all the others before I even finished. The drama and action are incredibly, there's no other word for it. Hats off to you Mr Stanek for your service and all your sacrifices. Patrick Fergusen12

The word heroes comes to mind, so do the words above and beyond the call

Knowing that all this really happened you can't help but feel the author's pain, joy, sorrow, terror. Incredible and moving. Can't wait to read the rest of the series. George Thomas16

Incredible

The subtitle says this is an incredible true story, and it is. If you enjoy true accounts, don't miss this. Wow, I was swept away by the events. Truly moving. Riley Lewis21

Five stars

A really fantastic book and one you're going to want to read to the end. Then you'll be on to the second one too! Chris Feldman11

Pretty good, strong writing

Biographies often read more fiction but this one rings true and for good reason. The author wrote it as he lived it. Carol Ayers4
