Stopped reading at 72%. For some reason the book felt emotionally empty to me. The words were there, but the feeling was not. It left a similar feeling to watching a badly dubbed movie, a weird disconnect. This was a sweet and fairly spicy paranormal romance that was an interesting deviation from Sanders’ usual books. I thoroughly enjoyed the shake up in vampire mythology, with several types of vampires. Both the FMC and MMC had an intense mix of self confidence and self doubt when it came to their abilities and their relationship with one another. It was a fast burn, which I usually am not a fan of, but they worked so well together as a couple.
I loved that the FMCs mother was supportive and sexually free. It’s so rare in most paranormal or fantasy novels to have a healthy relationship with a mother, or even an alive mother.
Only things I would have d to see from this book was less “I’m so quirky” vibes from the FMC and some actual discussion between the MCs about the MMCs lack of understanding of all things modern.

A superb story!
A simple little backwoods witch? Not really. Fran is far more than that! A cold-hearted vampire death-dealer? Seriously? Reynard is so hot, fierce, and thrilling! I am simply amazed by the fire that flares between these two magic wielders. Are there ulterior motives? Not between Fran and Reynard, but others have a heyday wreaking havoc. This book is so exciting! The characters are well-depicted, humorous, passionate, and deadly serious when it’s called for. There are many secondary characters whom I find very appealing - I’d to find out more about them. Great reading!1 Christine Cannaerts143 1 follower

Witches and vampires

I absolutely loved reading this
Maybe other stories will follow I saw lots of potential ones lol
That's what you get reading your favorite authors books
You love them off course and want more stories and getting them off course because S.J Sanders always delivers
Always a joy reading her books, shortstories,long ones and in between...as soon as I see something available I'm getting it

Perfect paranormal adventure

A great Halloween tale! Witches and vampires, oh my. Fran and Reynald have great chemistry but there are powers that have plans, both good and evil, for them. Chase scenes, heroism, and all the great adventure tropes are put together with the wonder S.J. Sanders style. This is truly a good Halloween read.1 Ann Hupe463 7

Compared to Book 2, this novel was very, very good with plenty of great action/adventure. Original world-crafting that I want to explore more of (the vampire part. that is, and whatever happened to Eleanor when she was dragged through that portal!) Now I understand how Book 2 worked in. (I read this one first...)

There is angst, but nothing that is over-repetitive or inappropriate, but I am far more satisfied by the interaction between Reynard and Fran than others in similar (or close) stories I've read. The characters are believable, and I thoroughly enjoyed the secondary characters that were just as important to the storyline than I've seen happen in other books. I would LOVE to see more of these characters in other books, especially Jack.

For something different from the word processor of S.J. Sanders, I highly recommend reading this book as well as those following it.
