Compared to others that I've read in the last year or so that discussed similar issues this was not great. I think it was too much to expect to do such a story justice in so few pages, but I picked it up because I have an interest in how characters, even if they are secondary characters, facing various life 'challenges' are handled in romance in particular.

The highlight of this story, however, was that Susie and Miles get their own mini HEA and it is important to show that all types of adults are both capable and deserving of fully consensual romantic and/or sexual relationships.

If you want to read other, longer, romances that handle a sibling of the MC (in both cases it's the male) having mental/developmental disability issues, and please note that I'm far from being an expert so this is based on my limited knowledge rather than actual experience, I would suggest A Special Kind of Different By Holly Jacobs and Warrior Blue by Kelsey Kingsley. Or this general fiction novel where one of the MCs has a similar challenge to manage is The Man I Think I Know by Mike Gayle.2021-read auth-blk ku ...more Erika962 14

Mixed bag

I understand that the subject of DS is sensitive and on the whole the author did a good job however things moved too quickly. I was disappointed in Ezra. The whole situation with Miles and Susie could have been avoided if she’d just said something. Her nonsense about confidentiality was just that. She knew the huge work Sol had to do to get to the point of seeing his sister as an adult and she could see the romance a mile away. If being both the girlfriend and the sister was too hard, she should have gotten Dr Richardson to talk to Sol. Instead she let him walk in on an uncomfortable situation and then had the gall to berate him. He went too far but her brother also went too far by not mentioning their relationship beforehand. I didn’t that Ezra thought she was in the right and instead of apologizing for her part in the fiasco, got Sol to jump through hoops. Her pushy attitude (grabbing the phone while he was talking to his mother) grated as well.
I also felt that the romance was lacking. I actually got more invested in Miles and Susie than Ezra and Sol. Bill Jakobsen2,555 15

Another beautiful love story!

When I get excited I use a lot of exclamation points. This double love story was so good. Ezra and Sol met when they were in school and attending a Down Syndrome counselling meeting. Era's brother (Miles) and Sol's sister (Susie) are Down Syndrome children. Ezra grew up going into working with children/adults to learn skills to live their lives to the fullest. Sol's father passed away when he was young leaving his mother to care for Susie. She wasn't one to give her much room to become independent. She ended up having a stroke which left Sol custody of Susie. Read how they all work together. There are plenty of ups and downs in all of their lives. It's such a good book,, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have. B.J. Porter370 2

Enlightening!

I d the romantic side of this story, but I appreciate more being able to rethink how I view those with Down Syndrome. I now understand that there are different levels of DS and some are quite capable of operating in society with little guidance and are quite intelligent in their way. I also understand that DS is not as cut and dry as in the story, but then nothing in life is. Story was heart warming. Gina Stamper647 26

Brother’s Best Friend or Sister’s Best Friend. Doesn’t matter, I’m here for it. It’s my go-to genre right now.
This was a great romance. It was light and free, had its funny moments, had the drama that often comes with this trope, but also had other important topics that were touched on.
A word that sticks out to me to describe this book is cohesive. The author does a great job of blending all of the different aspects to make for a complete and compelling read.
