The palpable feelings of loneliness and despair were so moving that I was crying for a lot of this story. Austin's mental health struggles and poverty compared to Lynton's wealth and stability were understandably difficult to navigate, especially when starting from that point they both feel very guilty about - Austin offering his body as payment and Lynton accepting that. A terrific, engaging and steamy story from Scarlet Blackwell about the morally grey area of exchanging sex in lieu of payment and how that can complicate a budding romance.

When Austin's beloved dog Rupert is seriously injured, he cannot afford the procedure that will save his life. In a moment of desperation, Rupert offers sex to hunky vet Lynton to cover the cost of treatment. At first, lonely Lynton dismisses the offer, but he cannot resist temptation. Neither man is prepared for the consequences, emotional and sexual, as their feelings for each other develop, seemingly thwarted by the financial gulf between them and that first fateful exchange.

Austin's dog gets hit by a car and is in bad shape. Rushing Rupart to an emergency clinic, Austin is told surgery is needed. However, Austin can not afford the $2700 bill. Bring so desperate and not knowing what to do to save Rupert Austin offers himself up to the doctor.

Lyntin surprised me with his behavior. I understood it but didn't it. I got emotional about Austin's finances and lack of self estimate. Both are so lonely, Lynton working so many hours, and August feels alone in the world.
