Excelente continuación de la saga, la encontré incluso superior que En el país de la nube blanca ya que es mucho más ágil y más equilibrada, en el sentido de que en esta entrega la acción no se hace esperar y los conflictos se van desarrollando y resolviendo durante todo el libro, a diferencia del primero en que el cierre llega demasiado abrupto.

Nuevamente nos encontramos con la historia de dos protagonistas femeninas, descendientes de los personajes de la primera novela, lo que hace más agradable su lectura al conocer cómo se han ido gestando los lazos familiares. La autora narra magistralmente la superación y la necesidad de los personajes de conocer su destino y su lugar en este nuevo mundo.

Mir hat es fast besser gefallen als der erste Band.
Die Situation ist auch ähnlich und doch ist die Geschichte so anders. Und es ist über lange Strecken so spannend und aufregend, man kann gar nicht anders als sich mitnehmen zu lassen.

Ähnlich wie im ersten Teil, geht es um zwei Frauen, die sich mehr vom Leben erhoffen als ihnen geboten wird. Beide gehen ihren Weg. Und der ist wundervoll bildhaft beschrieben, genauso wie das bunte Neuseeland.

Kura ist arrogant und egoistisch und die Erbin, die die Maori und die Einwanderer verbindet. Nur interessiert sie sich nicht für ihr Erbe. Und obwohl ihr Mann sie anbetet träumt sie nur von der Musik und von Europa.
Elaine, unscheinbarer aber interessanter als ihre Cousine Kura, will die für sie vorgesehene Rolle als Ehefrau, und bald auch Mutter, erfüllen. Nur stellt sich ihr Mann leider, genauso wie ihr Schwiegervater, als grausam heraus.

Eine Geschichte von starken Frauen, die sich über Generationen entwickelt. Die Geschichten verschiedener Familien, verschiedene Stränge, die auseinander gehen und wieder zusammenfinden.

Empezar el año con una lectura tan buena deja el listón a una altura que más vale que el resto, al menos, equiparen a Sarah Lark. De no ser así, la caída va a ser más que dolorosa.

Al principio temía que esta continuación de "En el país de la nube blanca" flaqueara en algún punto o que la historia se tornara repetitiva, pero nada más lejos de la realidad, ya que la autora ha sabido crear un vínculo igual de profundo y especial entre lector y personajes que con el anterior, lo cual aplaudo por la dificultad que ello conlleva.

Por otra parte, no es solo que este libro equipare en calidad y trama a su predecesor, sino que presenta mayor equilibrio entre las historias de sus dos protagonistas, Elaine y Kura, las cuales están muy bien caracterizadas, al igual que el resto de personajes, que tienen un trasfondo y unos caracteres marcados y distinguidos como en el anterior libro, del cual también se hereda la contextualización histórica tan bien documentada y el ritmo constante de la trama al que Sarah Lark ya nos ha acostumbrado, y que estoy segura que mantendrá en el tercer libro de la trilogía.

In this second book, Sarah Lark takes back to new Zealand, to the sheep farms of Christchurch and the town of Queenstown. There we will find Gwyneira, still managing Kiward Station, and Helen, now the owner and manager of a pension. The two women who travelled to New Zealand some forty years before to get married are now strugling with their families, especially their grandaughters. Elaine is the daughter of Fleurette and Ruben O'Keefe and has fallen in love with a newcomer called William Martyn. Martyn comes from Ireland, but has a somewhat obscure past and his relationship with Elaine is not well seen by both Fleurette and Helen. Then there's Kura, Gwyneira's grandaghter, a real, but shallow beauty, who, despite being Kiward Station's heiress, cares about nothing but music and travelling to Europe. In addition to all this, the maori tribes are still grudging the fact that their lands had been stollen by the white settlers.

The story in La canción de los maoríes is basically the same of Gwyneira and Helen, only this time with Elaine and Kura. Both girls are married and everything crumbles down. Kura wants to be a singer and her husband wants to take control over Kiward Station; Elaine soon discovers a very dark side of her own husband, and is not willing to stand it.

I don't understand why Lark has sticked to the same formula as in the previous book. I mean, I suppose most of the marriages in those days were a mere business and love was the last thing in people's minds. But Sarah Lark seems to have a 'thing' for violent men. In the first book there was Gerald Warden, Gwyneira's father-in-law, and Howard O'Keefe, Helen's husband. Now it's Thomas Sideblossom, Elaine's husband. And why can't at least one female character have a nice, decent, marriage? Gwyneira's first husband wasn't keen on having sexual intercourse with her; now Kura doesn't want to be a regular wife with a family to take care of, because she wants to be an opera singer, and her husband doesn't seem to understand her. Does Sarah Lark enjoy having her main female characters always so unhappy in their marriages? Because this doesn't happen with secondary female characters, only with the main ones.

Then I have some questions about whoever reviewed this and how. I found a lot of sentences without a full stop. I would only understand the sentence was finished because the next one started with an upper case.

On a more positive side, I enjoyed that there were references to the first book because I couldn't remember everything that had happened.

I also d Elaine and got fed up with Kura very soon. As for the male characters, my favourite was Tim. I didn't Gwyneira that much. She didn't seem as sensible as before, and was always too worried that Kura might not her.

I know that usually the second book of a trilogy isn't as good as the first, but I didn't find that with this one. I think this book was a bit better than En el Pais de la Nube Blanca.

Wie auch bei Band 1 "Im Land der weißen Wolke" bin ich durch die Seiten geflogen und habe jede einzelne genossen! Es kommen keine Längen auf und ich mochte sowohl Geschichte als auch Charaktere unheimlich gerne. Sarah Lark schreibt so toll, dass man die Liebe zu Neuseeland spüren kann. Kein Kitsch-Roman, dafür viel Familien-Tragik und starke Personen. Wer Band 1 mochte wird auch Band 2 lieben, zumal liebgewonnene Charaktere aus dem ersten Teil wieder einen Auftritt haben, dazu aber die Nachkommen eine Hauptrolle einnehmen!

Mi-a placut mult aceasta continuare a romanului "In tara norului alb" si abia astept sa fie tradusa si cea de-a treia carte despre Gloria, fiica Kurei.
Actiunea acestui roman se petrece in oraselul Greymouth, un oras minier de pe coasta de vest a insulei. Pana acum nu am mai citit in asa amanunt despre mine si viata dura a minerilor, pericolele la care se expun zilnic acestia, si din cate am inteles autoarea s-a inspirat chiar dintr-o poveste reala a exploziei ce a avut loc intr-o mina in 1896, doar ca in realitate nu a existat niciun supravietuitor.
Romanul le are in centru pe Elaine O'Keefe, fiica lui Fleurette si pe Kura-Maro-Tini Warden, fiica lui Paul , ambele nepoatele Gwyneirei Warden.
Imi place ca aceste doua personaje sunt construite in totala antiteza, doua femei complexe, prima este dulce si inocenta, pe cand cealalta este focoasa si ambitioasa, insa amandoua sunt manate de curaj si stiu sa faca fata tumultului vietii si situatiilor dificile si neprevazute.
Autoarea detaliaza viata triburilor maori, dar si muzica acestora, aici am descoperit prima data fluierul pecorino si o multime de cantece menite sa incite spiritele.
Daca v-a placut romanul "In tara norului alb", atunci cu siguranta va va incanta si "Cantecul maorilor", eu sincer, nici nu stiu care mi-a placut mai mult!

Oh my god, I think I have another favourite author - though this second part of the saga is told in far less years than the first one, it is not boring or too detailed but you feel as if years and decades would pass till the end which is so amazing and let my heart jump and the hair of my neck went straight. Personalmente me ha gustado más su primera parte pero porque en este caso de todas las tramas sólo me ha atraído la de Elaine. Pero se compensa con lo interesante del momento histórico que narra y sobre todo el tema de las minas y sus accidentes que siempre ha sido algo que me ha interesado.
