Última entrega de la trilogía, narrada tan magistralmente como las anteriores. Sin embargo, en el intento de hacerla más impactante, la historia se siente un poco forzada, con situaciones inverosímiles y con algunos personajes poco convincentes en su actuar.

Por lo demás, se lee igual de bien y provoca el mismo grado de emoción que los dos primeros libros. Anywhere in the middle of the story I thought it would only get 4 stars the highest as I supposed it was going to be more a youth novel than the others and I presumed it would take the spirit of the first books away. But actually I discovered how youth itself affects all the life and after these three novels I feel I was part of the story, as if I had seen them all grow up, being content or angry, crying or laughing, and in the end everyone finally finds the place to call "home". Igual merece algo más de 3 estrellas, sin embargo, este texto no ha conseguido motivarme y cautivarme como lo han hecho las entregas anteriores. En algunos puntos me parece sumamente aburrido y solo he conseguido acabarlo por respeto a aquellos personajes a los que se les coge respeto y cariño tras 2.000 páginas. Oh man, da ist es vorbei. Und es war toll. Eine starke Trilogie.
Da fiebert man über drei Bände hinweg mit den Figuren mit, begleitet Generationen auf ihrem Weg und wird fast schon ein Teil der aufregenden Familiensaga.
Ich muss sagen es gab Stellen in dem Buch, bei denen ich mir überlegt habe, wie ich das jetzt finden soll - aber alles in allem wieder ganz stark.

Gloria ist eine der stärksten Figuren, denen ich in Büchern begegnet bin. Wild aber unsicher, von den Eltern erst in Neuseeland zurückgelassen und dann nach England verfrachtet. Wie sie unter dem Egoismus ihrer Eltern leidet, sich nirgends zugehörig fühlt und alles tut um nach Neuseeland zurückzukommen. Ihr Kampf ist krass und schwer zu verdauen aber man nimmt ihr jede Emotion ab. Auch ihre verbitterte Wut später ist so nachvollziehbar.

Auch wie Jack in Gallipoli den ersten Weltkrieg hautnah miterlebt nimmt einen mit.
Beide Schicksale sind grausam (obwohl ich das mit Gloria nochmal verstörender fand) und ungeschönt und eindringlich dargestellt.

Ein würdiges Ende einer wunderbaren Trilogie! Ich habe alle Bände geliebt, mit den Charakteren mitgelitten und mich geffreut! Ihre Lebenswege begleitet und die Familiengeschichten in mich aufgesogen. Dabei habe ich unfassbar viel über Neuseelands Geschichte, die Maorie-Kultur und nun zuletzt auch den Weltkrieg (speziell die Schlacht um Gallipoli) gelernt. Letztere begegnete mir auf meiner Neuseeland-Reise und ich war beschämt, dass ich nichts darüber wusste. Aber schön, dass ich im Geschichtsunterricht 3x die französische Revolution rauf- und runterbeten musste. Qué dificil fue terminar esta trilogía con tantos personajes que vi crecer y que se van a quedar conmigo para siempre. Creo que nunca me cansaré de leer a Sarah Lark: su estilo singular a la hora de narrar y la calidad de sus escritos han hecho que se posicione entre una de mis autoras favoritas, aunque el género que escribe no sea mi predilecto.

No puedo sacar muchos defectos a este cierre de trilogía básicamente porque sigue el mismo patrón de perfección, bajo mi punto de vista, que sus dos predecesores por su ritmo constante, calidad descriptiva, giros narrativos, profundidad de personajes y evolución de los mismos, así como subtramas y un largo etcétera, aunque bien es cierto que esta vez ha flaqueado en dos pequeñas ocasiones, motivo por el cual no le he dado el 5/5 acostumbrado.

Esos motivos son básicamente que hay una relación sentimental que desde el principio sabía que iba a ocurrir, por lo que ese "elemento sorpresa" desaparece, aunque durante un par de cientos de páginas la autora ha logrado confundirme, he de reconocerlo.

El otro es que ha habido varios capítulos seguidos entorno a la primera guerra mundial que se me han hecho algo pesados, aunque lo más probable es que eso sea algo muy personal y otra persona los encuentre fundamentales y la mar de interesantes, pero como digo, no ha sido mi caso.

Dejando esto de lado, no tengo ninguna queja con este libro (y trilogía) pese a sus ya tradicionales 700 páginas, y estoy más que agradecida de que la autora nos regale un spin off como "Una promesa en el fin del mundo" con el que los amantes de esta saga familiar podamos sumergirnos, por una vez más y con una sonrisa de añoranza dibujada en el rostro, en la Nueva Zelanda que nos ha cautivado y en la que seguro que nos volvemos a perder en un futuro.

In this last installment of the New Zealand trilogy, Sarah Lark tells us the stories of Lilian Lambert, the lively and easygoing daughter of Elaine and Tim, and Gloria Martyn, the awkward daughter of Kura and William. Gloria lives happily in Kiward Station with great-grandmother Gwyneira and her son Jack until her parents force her to study at an English boarding school in Cambridge. Lilian goes there too, but un her younger cousin, Gloria doesn't fit in. When the war breaks out in Europe the cousins are made to leave Cambridge. Lilian goes back to Greymouth, to her fmily, and starts helping her father with his minning business. Gloria doesn't return to Kiward Station; she joins her parents in the United States of America where her mother is acting. But Gloria longs for New Zealand and will do whatever it takes to return.

I think this was the best book in this trilogy. At least, both Gloria and Lilian don't undergo horrible marriages. Their strugles are of a different kind. Especially for Gloria, who goes through an incredibly rough patch on her way back to New Zealand; this makes her a very interesting character.

There were also some interesting descriptions of what soldiers went through during World War I.

Despite being an easy read and being better than the two previous books, it is quite a long story and there were moments when I wished the book was shorter.

Still, it was a nice experience to "take this trip" to New Zealand. While I was reading, I searched for some pictures of the places mentioned in this book. I hope one day I have the opportunity of visiting that beautiful country that New Zealand is.read-in-20146 s Saltwaterdiva265

I was not as enthusiastic with this part three as I was with the previous two. I actually enjoyed part one and would rate it as the best of the three. One could certainly quit reading there. This #3 dragged out for me. I admit to skipping the entire section describing the brutalities at Gallipoli and I lost all respect for the main female character who had impressed me so much in the first book. She developed into quite a whiner and I didn't understand why she capitulated to the long absent parents of her ggranddaughter and sent the poor child off to a miserable experience at boarding school where she endured unfortunate maltreatment. The story of her escape was difficult to read and the ending where two characters eventually marry made me wonder what the author was thinking when the two were descended from the same woman and had grown up together as brother and sister. By the time I finished the book, I was just mind boggled and frankly glad I'd reached the end of the saga. 6 s Aleksandra192 32
