WELCOME BACK TO SPELLFORD COVE! A PLACE WHERE THE MYSTERIES MAY BE SUB-PAR, BUT THE WORLD BUILDING IS PHENOMINAL AND TO WALK BESIDE THE PROTAGONIST MAKES YOU FEEL RIGHT AT HOME!

Ok so I went into this book a tad annoyed with myself that it had taken so very long to get to it. In fact, when I reviewed book 2 in this series (double double tart and trouble) I said: “I can’t believe it’s taken me 6 months to get to book 2!”

Yet, it took me about 4 months to get onto book 3!

The problem with this (aside from the emotional problem of it taking so long to get to the next book considering how much I love the series) is that it takes me a hot-minute to feel grounded in the world each time I get to a new book as I’ve forgotten where we left off in the last one.

Because of this, I have mapped out the next several month’s TBR’s and yep, you guessed it, books 4-7 will be read in JULY, AUGUST, SEPTEMBER and OCTOBER, unless I go cray-cray and end up ordering all of them to read in July lol!

Regarding the book itself - PREMISE: we have an interesting plot. Robin’s cousin works at a nature hiking place and someone she (the cousin) works with has been found dead after what looks to be ‘an accident’. However, Robin has the ability to see ghosts and the ghost of the deceased appears before Robin telling her it was no accident. That she’d never take her own life. So Robin and both her cousins are on the case to track down the killer.

As I said in the title of this review, the mysteries to me in this book are sub-par. I feel the set-up is always good and I’m intrigued always to find out ‘who done it’, but the reveals always let me down (hence docking a star).

In this case I actually said “who????” when I found out who the killer was and that’s never a good thing, lol.

In saying that, I come for the ‘cozy’ aspect, which in this book is the paranormal side and the somewhat ‘romance’ side (however, this book is not bogged down in romance which I appreciate). Of course I always ‘stay’ for Robin’s familiar “William Shakespaw” who is the sassiest talking cat I’ve ever met (even rivalling Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch!).

Seeing Robin continue to grow as a kitchen witch and a witch in general has been an absolute joy also!

Can’t recommend this series highly enough to those who love Paranormal, Mysteries and the ‘found family’ trope.

4 Stars!

And the promise to read book 4 in July!

Xoxo.

A very enjoyable little series!
It feels perfect to binge, actually. The different books seem more chapters, in a way, since the actual books are only around 5 hours each.

I'm starting to adore Jill Smith. Really pleasant narrator!

This book is a bit darker than the previous two, in a way. Death comes closer to Robin and her cousins since one of the cousin's friends are murdered.

Robin's (perhaps a bit psychotic) psychopath of a father also shows up. He's not someone you'd want in your family tree, let's just put it that way. I really don't him and want him gone already so I suspect he will be a thorn in my side for a while now.

Keep going? I sure will!audiobook1 Toni1,371 54

This is the third book in the Spellford Cove series by Samantha Silver.

Robin and Spellford Cove are back in a new mystery. In this one her father shows up and he wants her to do forbidden magic with him to take the magical powers of the Titans for his own use. Why are the evil ones always so silly wanting irrational things that?

The cast here is great and I am already sucked in and invested in this world. Just can’t get enough of Spellford Cove!

I love Robin and her new found family. Grandma Jackie is quite a hoot! I think the community and cast is the best part of this. The mystery is secondary. I that it gets solved and how they do it but I love seeing all the people the best!

Really enjoying the heck out of this series! Such a fun cozy romp into the mystery and magic of the Cove!

Loved so much about it. If you magical cozy mysteries, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.1 Amanda Jane1,258 8

She had an opportunity.. she missed it..

We open on the scene we left the previous book.. Robin is in the bakery kitchen Cassandra's dead body lies between Robin and her biological father. Robin has been paralysed by a spell and her father is spouting off about how she needs to come and help him achieve world domination.

In itself it's too ridiculous.. the subsequent death of Elsa's friend and colleague which Robin blindly tries to pin in the wrong person until the killer outs themselves becomes background noise, although there's a nice moment where Bianca gets her comeuppance.

There are spells with no necessity to know or learn anything, pre-mix potions that apparently will replenish themselves, a cat familiar who does nothing except read, I can go on but I think it is pointless..

Out of the three books this had the potential to fill in the missing information and really go somewhere but instead it drifted along with little insight, a tired, weak storyline, and poor structure.

PS I hate books that leave you half way through the last chapter.. it's not a cliff hanger it's a weak way to force the purchase of the next book. A cliff hanger finishes and leaves unanswered questions, or an impending event or decision.. leaving the last book with a "Robin I am your father" moment, a dead body and unfinished dialogue was shoddy and very lazy writing.

Entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters with an entertaining storyline. A young woman who was raised in Minnesota by her adopted parents. She was on her own after they had passed away enduring a dead end job and needing a change in her life. She gets a letter letting her know that she actually has biological family and has inherited her biological mothers bakery/coffee shop. She drives her beat up old Toyota out to Washington state meet your family and then soon realizes she thinks they are nuts. They claim to be witches. She soon finds out maybe they are not so crazy and things begin to happen. She finds a talking cat who happens to be her new familiar and then goes back to her biological family realized that yes they are actually witches and so is she. She starts running the bakery and soon finds out that she keeps getting put in the middle of investigating murder mysteries and other issues in town. Along with other issues that come along that are magical and non-magical you must read on and find out what’s going on. It is very entertaining and a fun read. A Baker's Coven is Book 3 in the Spellford Cove Series by Samantha Silver.
I really love this series. Robin is a fantastic character. She is doing well settling into Spellford Cove and running her bakery. One of Elsa's friends is tragically killed and it is ruled an accident. When the deceased ghost shows herself to Robin, she sets to investigate.

Robin is also dealing with her father Antonio coming back. The characters are really well written and the mystery is fantastic.

The romance between Robin and Hunter is moving along really nicely.

I really loved this book and I cannot wait for more. Jess d'Artagnan437 15

In the third installment of Spellford Cove, a woman dies falling off a cliff at a national park. Since our main character is a witch, she is then haunted by the dead woman's ghost. This adds a fun layer to the mystery and is a fun way of telling a whodunnit story. There was a moment of cultural appropriation I found distasteful, but aside from that, I enjoyed my time reading this book and will continue on to the next one.

I solved the mystery for this one making my average for solving mystery stories 36% (4/11 solved). I still wouldn't hire me as a detective.cozy-mystery kindle-unlimited mythology Pam1,156

This one was better than the second book in the series. It did not end in a cliffhanger and the plot was well done. It's nice to have the new witch not have a cop boyfriend - which is a totally overdone plot feature in new witch books. She may have an abnormal amount of power, but we'll have to see how she manages that. She may need that to deal with her psycho father. She sees other spiritual beings which is a nice addition to the usual plot feature of a medium seeing ghosts to solve murders. This book was a very enjoyable read - done in one sitting!paranormal-witches-etc J351 6

In this one, the murderer is super obvious. I always find it weird that someone will set a cozy mystery series in a small town. That's a lot of murders, even if there's a time jump in between books. Same issues still persist. Yay. Could really do without Antonio's story line, it's just getting more ridiculous. There are hints that this could have been written better, maybe that hope is why I keep reading.

Would I read again? no. Tchipakkan425 18 Read

Satisfying

I the characters, unless they are crazy psycho killers they are nice people. It's nice to have the new witch not have a cop boyfriend. It does look she may be over-powerful, but I am willing to see where she goes with that. I her seeing other spiritual beings, the medium seeing ghosts to solve murders is getting too well worn. I 'm very much enjoying watching her tell her biological father to shove off. And the potion mix makes SO much sense! Becky Adkins85

A Bakers Coven

Elsa's best friend, Theresa, was found dead from a fall in the park where they both work as park rangers. Teresa's ghost appeared and told Robin she was pushed from the lookout point. Thomas, who was Theresa's boyfriend, was their main suspect. When Robin asked Theresa if there was trouble between them, Theresa said no. Denise MainAuthor 5 books54

Yet another murder

The third murder in this sleepy seaside place. Really? Highly unly and, after the first 2 books, very predictable. The book seems rushed, flat and not enjoyable. Even a powerful witch has to put some effort into performing magic, never mind a relative newbie. Glad it was free and will never read it again. Marti892 3

Another murder - this time a life-long friend of Robin's cousin Elsa. Of course, the inept local police department ruled it a tragic accident but nothing more sinister than that. Of course, Robin and Elsa get involved and soon enough solve the mystery. This one was more than a little easy to figure out who the murderer was but still, it was a nice little diversion.cozy-mystery fantasy-witchcraft BMW40

It's a cozy read

There's a few little typos here and there that distracted me a bit, but nothing earth shattering. It was a good little read. Does this poor girl runs on coffee? But that's just a millennial stereotype I'm afraid. Doesn't anyone ever cook, dinner. The story moved the long at a reasonable pace, nice way to blow an afternoon. Debra Smith124 2

Great Book

I enjoyed this book, we are getting to know more about the characters in this series and their interactions. The story line was excellent. I look forward to the next book in this series.

A fantastic series!

I really do enjoy every book in this series, it’s so much fun! Robin is a very relatable character and she brings a lot to each story. It’s a perfect cozy mystery. Suzanne96 4

I am not sure really how I feel about these books. I was entertained by them but they also felt not so well written. Not enough to put me off but enough to just bother me slightly. Still entertaining. Not the best narrator but it wasn't so bad it kept me from finishing. Beckie Forslund19

Good read

I am enjoying these books. I adore the thought of talking cats, so that's a big plus for me. There are a few typos and inconsistencies throughout the series, but other than that these are a great, quick read. Jamie Puleo419 15

Cute series about Robin, her new found witch family, and her misadventures. In this one, she’s on the search for a killer, and her biological father has decided to come looking for her. Entertaining, fast read, and I’m looking forward to the next one. Kimberly Gordon-Bercich1,724 3

Goodbye

So often in death the survivors wish they could have said goodbye. When a beloved friend of Elsa’s is murdered and becomes a ghost the cousins once again rally to fin a killer. “Hell hath no fury a scorned woman.” That was true in this story. Rachel N472 4
