Featuring ~ single 3rd person POV, missing children, slow burn, unnecessary secrets

Rachel's 16 year old son, Shay, has been acting strangely ever since her boyfriend, David, moved in. But then one night he doesn't come home from party in the woods, a party that he was grounded from going to. And then more kids from the school begin to go missing as well. Are they rebelling and running away from home, or is something more sinister going on?

I do missing children books, but maybe because they're 16 I found it to be a bit slow moving and wasn't on the edge of my seat as I would be if they were younger (even though I have a teen myself, so I'm weird I guess). Also, what mother would just take a text from their child as proof they are okay ~ hello, I'll need verbal confirmation please. I'm not really sure how I feel about how Rachel handled things, but you never know what you would do in a situation this unless you are in it.

The online video gaming world can be a scary place and I felt the author did a nice job of portraying what can go wrong. I, also, d Rachel and ex-husband, Mick's, relationship and how they seemed to be on the same page.

Overall, while I was not fully gripped I was kept interested. There were some tense moments and I couldn't wait to find out what happened to these children.

*Thanks to the author, Boldwood Books, Rachel's Random Resources, and NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*

Side note ~ although I the cover I'm not sure how it correlates with the story. Although swings are super fun they give me more of a younger child vibe, not teenagers.

Last night my son, Shay, sneaked out of the house and didn't come home. He promised not to go to the illegal party in the woods. But someone's been attacked, and shay has gone missing. The police want to know if he saw what happened. I'm worried he could be involved. After all the trouble he's been in lately, mixing with the wrong crowd, coming home beaten up and scared, I thought we'd put it all behind us. Trouble is, Shay resents me moving in my new boyfriend into the family home. I found all sorts on his laptop, including a half-written email warning me not to trust David. What does he know that I don't?

This is a well written, fast-paced thrilled. I was gripped instantly, needing to know what had happened and how it was going to unfold as more of Shay's friends disappeared. There were parts of the story where nothing really happened. There are also a few suspicious characters to pick and choose from. This is a very twisted read. The characters are well rounded. I d the authors writing style. There was quite a lot going on in this book, but it wasn't confusing.

I would to thank #NerGalley #BoldwoodBoods and the author #RubySpeechley for my ARC of #Gone in exchange for an honest review. 23 s this_cat_lady_reads 644 71

Thank you NetGalley, Boldwood Books and Ruby Speechley for letting me read “Gone” In exchange for an honest review.

Rachel lives with her new boyfriend and her two sons. Basically her life is good, but her eldest teenage son is giving her trouble. Being beaten up and the victim of bullying, Shay has become reserved and the relationship between him and his mother has suffered.

Shay sneaks out to a rave in the woods. But he does not return. Rachel is worried, what happened to her troubled son? Is he involved in a teenage girl getting hurt? Or is he abducted himself??

The story is ok. I had a hard time with the writing (third persons pov, did not seem fitting to me) and the characters. Basically all of them were dislikable or annoying. Rachel got to me with being super naive.
The story has a lot of potential but it got lost. The end seemed rushed and fabricated at the last minute. It did not go with what was laid out in the beginning.

There were so many doubts about her new partner. He is not really involved with the child but goes to the meetings of the other missing kids parents? Just because he has a coworker there? How does he get the money so quickly? It seemed all so off and ….11 s Joanne Eglon240 3

Fast paced thriller that had me hooked from the 1st page.

Well written and great plot.

A loan from the library that I read in a few hours.

Predictable at times but would recommend
