EXCERPT: Cursing, Alfie moved the container of food off his stomach to the passenger seat. If there was one thing he hated, it was an interruption to his eating.
Moving swiftly, the person scraped their coat as they slid between Alfie's wing mirror and the back fence to reach his window. They materialised beside him. Alfie's eyes widened as he recognised them. Without a pause, they climbed up onto the van step, so they were at eye level.
'What are you doing here?' he spluttered, bits of batter spraying over the dashboard.
His visitor raised a brown-gloved hand, which held a black handle. Before Alfie could make a sound, there was a solid click, and a dark blade leapt into view. He knew instantly it was no toy.

ABOUT 'DEATH AT PARADISE PARK': When a body is discovered at Hunstanton seaside, DS Ashley Knight and her Major Investigation Team are called to investigate. DS Knight is on the case, desperate to discover if they have one killer at work or two.

MY THOUGHTS: Here we are living in paradise, living in luxury
Oh, the thrill is here but it won't last long
You better have your fun before it moves along

(Living in Paradise - Elvis Costello)

Not all is as it should be in Paradise. In fact, it seems that if you reside in Paradise Park, you're ly to wind up dead before your allotted time. Unfortunately, the author gets carried away and there are bodies behind every door. It was all just too much and, although I finished this book, it was quite OTT and I didn't enjoy it, and that's a first for me with Ross Greenwood's books. Usually I love them.

Death at Paradise Park is far-fetched and far too busy to the extent it becomes confusing. It's not well-balanced and the dialogue was often wooden and unrealistic.

If I had been given this book with all references to the author blanked out, I never would have guessed it was written by Ross Greenwood.

Very disappointing. This is a series I won't be continuing with.

THE AUTHOR: I was born in 1973 in Peterborough and lived there until I was 20, attending The King's School in the city. I then began a rather nomadic existence, living and working all over the country and various parts of the world.

I found myself returning to Peterborough many times over the years, usually when things had gone wrong. It was on one of these occasions that I met my partner about 100 metres from my back door whilst walking a dog. Two children swiftly followed. I'm still a little stunned by the pace of it now.

Ross Greenwood returns to add to his newly-minted police procedural series set in Norwich. He keeps the writing quality high and. provides the reader with something well worth their while, all as Greenwood meanders through the story and checks the needed boxes for a great thriller. Greenwood paints a picture and lets the reader see how things will progress without getting too wrapped up in the minutiae. Great writing, strong characters, and a decent plot all lead the reader down a specified pathway to the answers that are sought.

The discovery of a body along the Norwich coast sends shivers up the locals’ spines and cues the Major Investigation Team to attend. Headed by DS Ashley Knight, MIT officers confirm foul play and begin searching for clues. A second body soon emerges at the local Paradise Caravan Park, which has no definitive connection to the original murder. A scan of the area brings many out to the woodwork with their various stories. While many sound questionable, the alibis prove true, only frustrating DS Knight more as she has nothing to send up the chain of command.

However, things soon begin to fray at the edges and DS Knight follows a lead directly to the middle of the investigation. Someone is trying to cover up not only their guilt, but a larger secret, one that DS Knight is eager to discover. As more members of the caravan park prove to be elusive, DS Knight and her team must suss out the truth before more bodies emerge and their own safety is put in jeopardy. A great mystery by Ross Greenwood that was delightful to discover.

I have enjoyed the writing of Ross Greenwood over the years, never finding him repetitive or lacking in intensity. Strong ideas present well and keep the story moving, as the narrative builds and finds itself wrapped up in a strong theory or two. Greenwood uses this momentum to create dramatic effect and keeps the reader wondering as they push onwards. This is also supported by great characters, many of whom are one-timers, but whose impact is not lost on the attentive reader.

The plot is able to hold the reader’s attention, especially when it moves from one perspective towards another seamlessly. Greenwood knows when to add a twist to keep the reader guessing and at which point things need to flow with ease. I can only hope that there will be more mysteries this in the series, as this novel had all the needed elements to a great story and paved the way to a superior procedural. I await more from Greenwood, in hopes that the adventures can continue unabated.

Kudos, Mr. Greenwood, for keeping the reader locked into the mystery throughout.

Just as overweight, out of shape, dodgy Alfie Hook is about to enjoy his fish and chips, he is killed. Shortly thereafter, a body is discovered in a hot tub at Paradise Caravan Park and DS Knight and the Major Investigation Team are on the case. Soon the body count starts mounting and while there is no shortage of theories about who the killer/killers might be, there are no convincing suspects. Many of the victims and suspects have secrets that are slowly revealed as the team becomes frustrated as to the solution.

This is the second in the DS Knight series. It is the first I have read and it worked well as a stand alone. There are many characters here, but a list of the police team and their ranks is provided in the beginning of the book. I d the investigative team, especially their close personal relationships and their sarcastic humor, my favorite kind! Despite the body count, graphic violence was at a minimum.

This is a solid police procedural full of colorful characters and a plot that will keep readers guessing throughout. I am looking forward to the next installment in the series.

4.5 stars

Death at Paradise Park is written with scalpel precision. This is definitely in the top ten books I’ve read this year!

A tranquil holiday park. Multiple deaths. All apparently unconnected.

A reader that has been given their cake, they want to eat it, but they don’t know what deadly toxin lies between the layers.

DS Ashley Knight has been called to a suspicious death outside the chip shop near Paradise Park caravan site. Alfie Hook, husband of the notorious Jackie Hook, who has just been released from prison after doing an eight stretch. Ashley and her team know instantly that the discovery will complicate everything. Delivering the news will be difficult and they don’t know how Jackie will react. She has been known to be extremely volatile toward the police.

Death in Paradise Park is book two in the series but having not read the first I can confirm that it doesn’t impact my understanding of the story. I will be going back to read the first very soon, however.

I enjoyed the complexities and relationships of Ashley’s team. Hector, the fast-tracked constable was a character that added a little something more. As a reader that has no experience of the force it made you really realise that police officers are human too. Yes, I’m sure that they can become desensitised to seeing death, but they can be affected just as easily. It can play on their minds and affect how they see the world. All the characters add enough layers to make it through winter.

So, this case was tough. It was trying to figure out the right combination of a rubix cube. At some points I felt I wasn’t intelligent enough to work it out. Whiplash, a shadow whizzing past you, a twig snapping underfoot to the side of you. That’s the emotions I felt while reading Death at Paradise Park. The detectives follow their nose and sometimes the scent just stinks. A red herring or something more? I’ll let you discover that.

Ross Greenwood is great at the twist. I know you’re going to scream at me for using the ‘twist you didn’t see coming,’ but I really didn’t. Did I have my suspicions? You bet, but they were all wrong. Ross lead us one way while distracting us with another. Surprise in amongst the action and fear. The author has created characters that make you react, that make you fear and make you question why some people act the way they do.4 s Fictionophile 1,147 354

The second book in this police procedural series turned out to be almost as engaging and engrossing as the first one "Death on Cromer Beach". This is a police procedural crime series that I intend to follow.

Once again DS Ashley Knight finds herself leading a murder investigation with the assistance of her 'fast-tracked' young police constable, Hector Fade. I very much enjoyed how their relationship developed over the course of the two books. Ashley finds herself confiding in the young policeman which proves therapeutic for her. Their banter and jibing adding greatly to my enjoyment of the novel. The rest of the Ashley's MIT team included DC Barry Hooper (who is attracted to Ashley), and the newly pregnant DS Bhavini. Even the peripheral characters in the book were interesting to get to know, however slightly.

DS Ashley Knight was an intelligent, lonely, and quite damaged protagonist. She has had a lot of 'life lessons' that have caused her to be empathetic to others. She is in her forties and single.

The setting, the Hunstanton area in Norfolk, England was well described and atmospheric. It proved challenging for the police team as it was some distance from their offices and required them to spend a lot of valuable time driving back and forth.

The homicide investigation takes up just two months after the last book, and is a challenging one for the team. Bodies keep turning up... Secrets and lies abound among the residents. Why would someone be killing the middle-aged residents of a caravan park? The manner in which the victims were killed was varied, and looked to be expertly executed. They suspect an assassin. But what could the motive possibly be?

I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of this novel, but I thought that the second half was a tad convoluted. Despite many suspenseful moments, it just seemed overly long...

With strong characterization, this book should appeal to many fans of the genre. All in all, "Death at Paradise Park" was a very enjoyable police procedural and I look forward to further books in this series. Recommended!boldwood-books england netgalley-read ...more4 s Christine1,020 29

A great investigation with a great team! I loved it, not only because of the plot which let me guess up to the end, but also because of the police team. Not much is described about their life, but enough to make them real and feel real, enabling the novel to focus on its storyline. Much action, many twists, many victims, no gruesome details make this book a page-turner!
Thank you Ross, for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review! I am very grateful!4 s AndrewP1,504 37

This book is set in a coastal town that I'm very familiar with and everything rang true about the location. As with the first book in this series, the author left all the place names the same. Most of the places you can use Google maps/street view to get an exact picture of the scene.
Starting out as relatively simple murder, the case gradually expands into a much bigger plot. For me I think things got a little to complicated and sort of stretched the truth of what might happen in a small Norfolk seaside town. The plot and the location were both good, it's just that I found it hard to relate one to the other. crime-mystery e-book read-in-20243 s V574 9

I really enjoyed Death in Cromer Beach and could hardly wait to read the second in the DS Knight series. It could be read as a standalone, much better if you read the first. This is some of the best British crime I’ve read, the author doesn’t skimp on plot details. The characters are richly described and believable. This murder case has detectives doing extensive legwork piecing together clues, interviewing, tracking down suspects and motives. The husband of a recently paroled wife(Jackie) is found murdered, which is only the start of an intricately plotted novel.
Some of the British terminology kept me on my toes, (caravan is a fancy name for a RV/trailer park to this native Texan!) The setting at this vacation spot attracts mostly retirees and some younger types who are bored, escaping or hiding. Next a young woman is found dead under gruesome circumstances. DS Ashley Knight and Hector have a complicated web of criminal activity to untangle. The manager of the Paradise Caravan is a suspicious character, as are the groundskeeper and maintenance man. The pool of suspects responsible for the revolting murder is rather large. Soon the debonair Deniz is linked to more than one lonely lady at the Caravan. Is money a motive? More deaths follow and Knight is using all possible personnel to halt the increasing body count before more people die. Are these deaths connected, a serial killer? Or is there more than one killer? I found the mystery increasingly addictive and couldn’t read fast enough. I was drawn into the maze of suspects and clueless to how they would catch those responsible. I thrived on the detailed case explanations and will continue to read this series and highly recommend the author.

This is a great crime thriller.
The book begins with a man being stabbed while enjoying some fish and chips near a caravan park in Norfolk.
Ashley and Barry head out to investigate and whilst looking round the caravan park, discover a woman's body.
The team wonder if the two deaths are linked in some way but when more people are murdered, it's harder to find the link.
This is a fast paced crime thriller with lots of twists and turns.

The second book in this series sees DS Knight back with her team investigating some puzzling murders at a caravan park in Hunstanton, Paradise Park.

I enjoyed this story and found that there was just the right amount of action involved. There is also a great cast of characters which have developed well from the first book in the series. The relationships and humour between them all is believable and enjoyable. The story is interesting and went in directions I was not expecting. I found the location of Paradise Park intriguing and enjoyed the atmospheric Norfolk setting. Overall, a very good book with plenty of grit, twists and turns. Death At Paradise Park by Ross Greenwood.
The Norfolk Murders Book 2.
When Alfie Hook settles down to eat his fish and chips by the Hunstanton seaside he hasn’t anticipated it is going to be his last meal. DS Ashley Knight and her Major Investigation Team are called to investigate and when they discover who Alfie is married to, they realise this case is not going to be straightforward.
I'm really enjoying this series. I do the team Ashley Hector Barry Bhavini Michelle Joan Sal Arthur Emma and Jan. Twisty and gripping. I didn't see that coming. I'm looking forward to the next book. 5*.2 s Keith Weller188 2

I absolutely love Ross Greenwood books and he is by far one of my favourite authors. I am gutted to say that I’ve really struggled with this series. While I really the main characters I feel the storyline is too complex with far too much going. It is so confusing with too many names and people dropped into the mix. It also seems to drag on unnecessarily. If I didn’t know it was written by this author I’d never have guessed as it is nowhere near the standard of his other work. I don’t think I will be continuing with the series. 2 s1 comment Terry 805 28

DS Knight is on the ball again in the 2nd book of the series. I enjoyed the 1st one and this did not disappoint.

Two bodies are their troublesome case, but no ties. No connection means more work for the team.
Or is it two killers? Doubling the work for them.
They knuckle down and we get to know the outcome.
So will you, read the book you won’t be disappointed2 s Yvonne1,532 127

After reading and loving the first book in this series I was eager to see what was next on the cards for DS Ashley Knight and her team. When a local man is found dead in his van behind a fish and chip shop, well, it does sort of look it is going to be a case that is not going to throw up too many surprises. Well, that is what I initially thought, but the author took such an amazing and complex route to get from the beginning to the end. I should mention I did not read the synopsis for this book before requesting it.

It starts with one body that then leads the team to Paradise Park, a holiday complex that houses tourists as well as more long-term guests and owners, with lodges and all the things you would expect of a site of this sort. The thing you don't expect is a second body at the park or what follows...

Along with Ashley, you will get to meet the rest of her team. There is a good mix and there is already a good sense of camaraderie. Even Hector, the newbie is getting to find his feet. With such a complex case on their hands, it is a case of all hands to battle stations as such. With so many things to deal with and the bodies mounting up you would think the team would have more to go on. The links they have are tenuous and this makes for excellent reading. There wasn't a point in the story where I thought I actually knew who did what. I am wondering if the author was the same as he wrote I and if he was following the characters. It is a complex caseload for the team, but I have to say the author did an amazing job keeping it easy to follow.

There is quite a few characters in this story but they soon become memorable, some have more of a part to play than others, but they all have something to input. This made for an intriguing story and one that felt tense throughout.

This is a fabulous second book in the series and it is one I would definitely recommend to fans of police procedurals, crime and thriller reads.crime-thriller netgalley part-of-a-series ...more1 Kirsty (BookBlogger)1,436 49

My Opinion

I read Death on Cromer Beach earlier this year and I was excited to see that there was going to be a sequel. Whilst this could be read as a standalone, it would be more enjoyable if the series is read in order. Ross Greenwood has written a novel with a detailed plot.

Greenwood throws multiple suspects at us with this fast-paced thriller, I have only just finished this book and I am already waiting for the next book to be ready to read. A wonderfully entertaining read, that I would highly recommend.

I received an E-ARC with a request for my honest review.

This captivating crime thriller follows D.S Ashley Knight in the county of Norfolk. When a body is found near a local fish & chip shop and is linked to a known ex-criminal the case seems as if it should be easy to solve.

However, when another body is found in a nearby caravan park, the team must try and work out if there is a link between the murders and who could be responsible.

As the investigation continues more secrets of the caravan park inhabitants are revealed, making it harder for Ashley’s team to work out who the murderer could be.

Will Ashley and her team solve the murders? Are they linked?

This crime thriller has you guessing all the way through, as more people become possible suspects, due to secrets in their past being revealed.

I love this series, as the police team is such a close team and have a lot of banter between them whilst they work but also show they care too.

I would love to read more in this series, as I would love to see what the team must investigate next, especially as it so close to home it seems more real.

Overall, a captivating crime thriller where the police must find a link between two murders before more get hurt.

I loved the deceptively benign start as obese van driver Alfie buys his Friday treat of fish and chips, and gets out his metal cutlery ready to enjoy it. He doesn't get beyond the first bite before he is mysteriously murdered in his van. Shortly afterwards, the body of a woman is found in a hot tub in the nearby caravan park.

We then segue to America and an assassination, but fortunately it's a brief diversion before we're back in Hunstanton with DS Ashley Knight and her team.

Who would have thought Hunstanton was such a hot bed of crime? But quite plausible when you read about "county lines" operating in villages across Britain.

The story gives us a lot of stand-out characters at both the police station and the caravan park. The ladies residing most of the year in their upmarket Diamond caravans seem to be living the life: they're honed, toned and enjoying illicit relationships. Good to see older women being portrayed in a different way than the usual stereotypes.

Ashley comes to life off the page too, wanting a relationship but not having time to meet anyone. She's excited about the idea of her pregnant friend, also a sergeant, coming to live with her, imagining helping to bring up the baby.

I love the professional pairing of Ashley with Hector, the fast track rookie. The team has accepted Hector, even though he's a bit posh.

I actually identified the protagonist quite early on, and was frustrated the police didn't. It was hard to predict the reasons and history behind the killings. A very complex web.

A satisfying ending and a good read.1 Emily | bookswith.emily306 22

Death at Paradise Park follows the same team of detectives from Death on Cromer Beach as they investigate more murders but this time, at a caravan park. The setting was interesting as it was set in a diamond class caravan park where the residents were quite unusual. The team begin to investigate a murder which happened near to the caravan park but with no leads, the killer goes back for more.

The plot was well planned and it was written extremely well. There was so many parts to this book and it all had a good pace to it, the twists were also placed well in the book. I couldn’t even begin to guess what happened and who was involved. The ending was shocking and the build up towards the end was exciting to read. The book had many layers and I could feel the emotions from the characters. The book was gripping from the start and I was so eager to read more and more.

The characters were well developed in the story and I enjoyed learning more about the police team after meeting them in the first book. Some characters were very quirky and mysterious, this made the guessing game for me worse as I was suspecting nearly everyone throughout the book. This book was definitely a page turner and the suspense got intense when certain characters true colours begun to show.

I am very excited for the next booking the series and I am intrigued to figure out how the stories are going to be interlinked. I will always recommend books written by Ross Greenwood,I have enjoyed every one that I have read.1 Kim275 5

This was an incredibly well plotted adrenaline race of a thriller! Part of me wonders how the author managed to get the story to work so well with all the different moving parts that were happening with the different crime scenes, potential and real criminals and so many different experts giving hints and clues.
This is an absolutely amazing read and makes me think that next May cannot come quickly enough so that I can get my hands on book 3! Yes, this is a second book in a series but it could easily be read as a stand-alone as anything pertinent from the first book is explained here, there's just more detail and a whole load of other stuff that happens in that one too!
It was so good to revisit with Ashley, Hector and the rest of them left over from the first book. Their characters are so enjoyable to read about, quirks and all! The plotting was amazing, so many different threads all wound together and when the author pulled on them, the result was just a beautiful bow of an ending with no tangles left to unpick ..... until the next time!netgalley1 gillian7 2

Spellbinding

As per usual, I couldn't put this book down. Every chapter had me waiting on edge.
It was good to see Hector improving and I have been left wondering if he will stay in the police force or not. I hope he does as his character is great. Ashley proves again what a brilliant mind she has, but is also human and therefore not perfect
I love this author and his choices to make things happen in places I actually know and have been. It's been my pleasure to actually meet and speak with Ross at The Wonky Donkey, in Peterborough, which is where the first books of his, that I read, take place. Ross is a talented writer with real knowledge of how the police force works.
Keep up the good work Ross. Your books are the best.1 Grace J Reviewerlady1,946 92

My first novel by this author - but definitely not my last!

Paradise Park is a beautifully laid out park of differing sections, mostly caravans but the poshest one has log cabins where most owners come for holidays and weekends. Sounds idyllic? Well, up until now it has been but as the bodies begin to mount up it, understandably, becomes less popular. DS Ashley Knight and her team need to get to the bottom of things - and quickly - but as they struggle to make any connections between the deaths, they are finding it hard, not helped by the distance of the location from their office. Is there more than one murderer?

Although this is the second book in series, it is my first and it's a cracking read! As the death count increased, I had no idea 'whodunnit', and I was kept dangling on the hook until the very end. Great characters, a fabulous storyline and an allover thrilling read! This is definitely an author I shall be watching out for from now on and such great writing demands all five sparkling stars! *****1 Staceywh_172,633 19

The second in the DS Ashley Knight series, Death at Paradise Park is a thrilling continuance to the series.

It's a fast paced, page turning police procedural and it was brilliant to be back in the company of Knight and her team. She's definitely a character that I can see myself becoming emotionally invested in as the series furthers.

With twists and turns aplenty, suspense by the bucket load and a killer at large, what's not to ?

Highly entertaining, enjoyable and another five star win for Greenwood.1 Aaron Davies7 2
