Best in the series 3.5 stars - read on KU

This book had better pacing than the previous one. It kept my attention for the whole book. The biggest reason I say 3.5 stars is the book seemed segmented instead of a continuous story, which is true for the whole series.

I did love all the characters. One other thing I don't about this series is it jumps from group to group, in a way. I would have preferred a series about a particular clan where we saw the same group of characters throughout every book, with the exception of a new romantic interest for one of the characters we already knew. There could have been a spin off for Donovan's clan. I have d so many of the characters, I would to spend more time with them. For example, Chris from the first book. And now Maddox after reading this one. He is in Steph's clan but didn't have much of a role in those two books.

I had said I wasn't going to read the 4th book based on its blurb before reading this and the previous book, but I think I will. I'm not going to follow the author. I don't think her work is great. But, if I run across it once it's released, I will read it. I had assumed it was going to be about the rangale, but after reading this book, it is obvious they will be part of this clan.

I would also it if she would update her world so that clans have an alpha pair instead of a single leader. Now that the conclave is being rebuilt, it would make sense to change it without it seeming future books follow different rules.

Reluctant Cervid

Third book in the series. Another MMC who, imo, is only sort of likable. But the FMC is awesome - much the first two. She starts out very much recovering from complex PTSD and a lifetime of abuse. In her own words, “Why [would anyone] want to put up with someone her? Shy, scared, and riddled with anxiety”. The author does a great job with her development and growth throughout the book. It's gradual and believable. Eventually she learns to be bold and resolute, even thinking to herself, “She is cervid, hear her stomp!”

The contrast between clan shifters and cervids is interesting and well differentiated.

I wish I could fit my favorite lines here but they are really two paragraphs - one by Eli and one about tea - and just too long. I'm also excited about the next two characters in the next book. They are well set up in this one. CKD!377 3

Tavi finds her place

Tavi comes to Two Trees when she sees Donovan in her predictions. She is anxious in Two Trees and really doesn't know how to live with this mochi freedom. Tavi and Donovan fund their way together and how to live with each other.
Tavi's Rangel wants her back but she doesn't want to go. This is where the suspense and drama comes in. This story provides a great reflection on social class systems and using religion to his abuse. Kiera92 1 follower

Loved it

I've enjoyed the whole New Clan Shifters series, but Reluctant Cervid is by far my favourite.

RK Munin's stories always deal with love first and foremost, but they also touch on abuse of power in all it's forms. As such, the books come with content warnings which should be observed. This doesn't prevent RK's writing from being enjoyable, though. The darker topics are handled with a deft touch, and always, always, love shines through.

the Change

Reluctant Cervid is book three in the series New Clan Shifters by author RK Munin. Ok so I thought the first two books were amazing this book follows that pattern. It’s filled with amazing new characters so not so great ones and some dark moments that lead straight into the light. Oh I mustn’t forget the spicy moments- talk about hot!!

Give this story a chance!

I wasn’t sure that I had empathy for Tavi. Her anxiety over everything I had no empathy for. However, I loved it when she stood for Maria and Ambrose. Love how the story turned twisty and the things that came out were something else. This is a really good romance and story. Highly recommend. Melissa Dice164 1 follower
