The author takes a medieval poem as the starting point and then allows his imagination to run riot. The introduction of a teenage boy in a modern day setting calls for a time slip back into the past and the sixth century is reimagined. The story takes place in and around what is now Banburgh and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
This is a great book for anyone who enjoys fantasy novels set in a semi-mythical past. The characters are well thought-out and there's plenty of bloodthirsty action in a very Boy's Own-style. Ideal for teenage readers with a good imagination.1 EmmaAuthor 4 books21
What a brilliant debut story from RJ Madon. A fantastic mixture of Fantasy and History in this exciting and action packed story that kept me gripped from start to finish.
Adam is magically transported into the past and the time of the Angles, and is mistaken for the legendary Beowulf. The story pulls the reader on with stunning world building that left me feeling fully immersed in the past with Adam. I was really invested in Adams journey and his characters development. The characters are believable and bring a lot to the plot, with stunning descriptions ad imagery that really helped me visualise all the action.
It's obvious that the author has a wealth of historical research which hes brought to this story. With themes of family, love, friendships and the heavy weight of guilt, its a brilliant and at times tense and thrilling read. Looking forward to more from this author.

This book is superb and a real treat for children wanting a fantastic adventure in mythological England. The research behind the book is impeccable and the characters so well drawn. The setting is everything you dream of for a gripping roller-coaster of a story and the monsters are unbelevably real and terrifying. Children will find this book full of tension from the start and will be by Adam's side all the way in his fight to find his sister. Adam's emotional journey is touching and poignant.
So if you want to be swept into a fantastical world for a thrilling ride (with some tearful moments) ...read this book!!!

Love it! Not only does Beowulfs Ghost have history, action, and great characters, but Adam has a personal story at the core. Lines from the original poem at the start of chapters is a nice touch. Keep an eye out for Hr?ta too, shes incredible. Stunning artwork on the cover. Would definitely recommend this book. Klissia776 10
