Are people not traumatized enough by the real world? When did torture and rape become mainstream entertainment?

I picked this up because the airplane crash setting, and the were stellar. I mistakenly thought this would be in the same venue as the Twist Me series or even the Willing Victim duo. It’s not.

The story begins with an airplane crash, and two survivors. Kaelin and Graham are surviving the wilderness and learning to trust each other, when Kaelin is kidnapped at gunpoint.

The majority of this story is Kaelin being repeatedly raped by multiple men. The first man who buys her, gets off on her tears, her vomiting, her fighting, and her strong survival instincts. In fact, he enjoys making her body come while raping her. He loves the psychological aspect of his power over her. This is not the first time he has purchased a woman.

“That’s why I come here,” he said. “No other kind of interaction will give me the thrill of forcing someone to fight within themselves.”

Turning the perpetrator into a love interest? He paid over $5 million to do whatever he wanted to do to her for one week, then he left her there, to be brutally tortured and raped by other men. She is at death’s door, when rescued by Graham.

The last quarter of the story somewhat worked. Kaelin is free physically, and working to heal herself mentally. Then it turns into some kind of bizarre poly relationship.

This story would have worked better with less on-page abuse, more recovery, much more revenge, and then a love story.
