Bows & Bitter Betrayals is the 2nd book in the Shady Creek Small Town Mystery Series.

Maggie Wilkerson is preparing for her new bakery’s grand opening.

She gets enveloped into a mystery when a friend asks for help when her brother is involved with the murder of an IRS agent whose body is found on his property.

This is the same agent who is investigating him for tax crimes.

Bows & Bitter Betrayal is the second book in the Shady Creek Small Town Cozy Mystery series.

While it was an enjoyable story, I felt I was missing something. So, I would recommend reading the first book in the series before this one. There are mostly developed characters and a decent plot line along with a bit of humor.

There were a couple of developments that I want to see what happens.

Mainly who Maggie will have as a helper for her bakery as it officially opens for business at the end of this book.

I would to thank author Renee Lyles for allowing me to read the Advanced Readers Copy of this story. Jane litherland2,074 34

Wow! This is a brilliant cosy , quirky, fun mystery. Pastry chef with her own bakery come coffee shop and amateur sleuth, Maggie Wilkerson has to help Tag escape possible incarceration once again , poor Tag can’t catch a break , it’s a good job his friend can catch a clue or too and has investigative prowess. Because the IRS investigator who is accusing Tag just wound up dead leaving Tag, well …tagged for his murder ! Especially since the Sheriff is peeved that he escaped from the last murder wrap…Superb writing , an easy reading style that’s a pleasure to peruse the pages with excellent descriptors and it’s immersive and engaging . Pastry chef Maggie Wilkerson has moved back home to open her bakery and coffee shop.
But once again finds herself in detective mode when local Tag, who has just narrowly escaped a murder charge and is trying to go straight winds up being investigated by the IRS.
But the investigator Jonathan Gertler isn't exactly squeaky clean himself and he has messed with the wrong person this time as he winds up shot dead with an arrow!
Now Tag is in the frame and it's a race against time for Maggie and sheriff Wakefield to save him from jail a second time.
This was such a fun cosy, really enjoyed it.
Maggie is a great character and can't wait to read more of her adventures. Joyce560 4

Second in Lyle's Shady Creek Small Town Cozy Mystery series, Maggie finds herself in the midst of another murder mystery while trying to prepare for her bakery's Grand Opening.

Now that she became friends with her high school rival Mindy after what happened last edition, Maggie couldn't turn her back when her help is requested even if many people in town including her own love interest thinks Tag should be in jail.

Hiring Garrett to help at the bakery is another mystery in itself as he doesn't seem to be who he claims to be.

Such an easy read that I couldn't put it down and devoured it in one day.

Maggie, busy preparing for her bakery's grand opening, suddenly finds herself trying to help her friend Tag with another possible murder rap. Tag had a run-in with an IRS auditor who suddenly found himself checked out and all fingers are pointing at Tag, even Maggie's sheriff boyfriend thinks he's guilty. So, it's up to her to find out what really occurred and why it happened. This is a cute, cozy mystery about a villain most people love to hate.

Tag is being investigated by the IRS but the investigator gets murdered. Tag is a suspect. Maggie wants to proof he is innocent. I it that there was a short introduction, the backflap of a paperback. I wish every ebook had this. I haven't read the previous story but that was no problem. The story is nice and easy to read and it keeps you guessing until the end.

Good Addition to the Series

Are the Sheriff and Maggie going to date or not? Can they overlook his job and her curiosity and tendency to be involved? Who is the culprit in this archery death? So many choices and some new characters. Will one stick around or will this one reappear in future stories? Fast paced and clear storyline. I the characters and their interactions. I would recommend. There’s a lot happening in this book as Maggie & the Sheriff continue stepping out together! Tag, who was recently cleared of all charges, but still not trusted by the Sheriff, is being investigated by the IRS. Then the man doing that investigation is murdered at the Space Y land owned by Tag. Maggie is sure that Tag is innocent & so gets busy. She gets quite a lot of help from her father & others along the way, even getting to interview someone in prison! All is sorted out well in the end. Delphia Von Heeder 1,169 24

This was a really good and puzzling murder mystery and I was never sure whodunit. I had to laugh at Mindy sometimes—what a huge change from the first book! I that Maggie and Wakefield seem in a good place with their new relationship. Now if they could just have a date uninterrupted. The showdown was good and Maggie got some unexpected help. Can’t wait to see what she and her friends get into next.
