Series does not read the first book
I loved the Warded Man and bought this bundle without reading any . Ive never read a series that changes the narration this one does. The Warded Man was an introduction to several main characters and told in their own POV. We barely get introduced to Jardir, yet the Desert Spear is primarily his POV and his detailed history. Its reading a completely different series until time catches up and you read scenes you already read in Arlens POV. Then the POV changes to Inevera and her history with repeated scenes. The POV finally starts to change more frequently, but there were many times I wanted to quit reading this. Still, Im torn about buying the final book. I loved the idea of this story and I want to know how it ends. Reading Arlens narration later on when he chooses to speak an uneducated bumpkin from his hometown is very irritating. I very much dis Jardir, Inevera and the Krasian society. The fact that the Krasians dominate most of the story after the first book, but we were barely introduced to them in it, makes me feel tricked into the series. Overall, Im very disappointed. This series is fantastic!! While reading it Peter V Brett had easily become one of my favourite authors. The characters are interesting, their stories develop into complex lives and the relationships between them feel very much real. It does take a little time for the story to progress but you get to feel youre growing up with characters and seeing how they process and deal with the story as its going on which I think is super important for a long series such as this one. There is actually one more book in this series (the core) so if you do read it, make sure to include that one Danielle Whitfield13 4
Definitely worth a read. Ken Rideout402 13
Better than average adult fantasy. Although there is plenty of action, it did drag at times and the sprawl of the book was a bit of an over-reach at times. Michael3
