Being almost 450 pages, this one is a bit of a chonker. But it didn’t read that way. Though, I’ll admit there were some parts I could have lived without. For its length, this was a relatively quick-paced read. It sucked me in wanting to know what the heck happened!

Immediately from the start, we’re shown two investigations that from the outside should have nothing to do with each other. But as we follow our detectives and the families of our victims, we see some unusual coincidences. It really takes you through a ride as we see more details come out the further we get into the book and learn the full story of what really happened that night.

One thing that might be off-putting for some is the number of characters we see. We got to see so many points of view in this one. And if I’m being honest, mostly at the beginning, they were hard to keep straight at times. But, with how intricate some of these details got, we definitely needed all those points of view.

And I loved seeing all the details in the investigation. And seeing that the author is a former deputy, I’m sure this isn’t a far stretch from how things really are. It truly felt real. I very much enjoyed reading this.

This was definitely an enjoyable crime fiction! Knowing this is just the first volume, I’m excited to see what happens next! I think if you enjoy crime fiction and mysteries, you might enjoy this too! oohlalabooks848 163

This reads an episode of these police procedural tv shows! Detectives Jen Donahue and Shari Thompson work well together and I that they are strong characters. They arrive on scene to a body in a bathtub while Detective Larry London is investigating a hit and run accident. Are these two a coincidence? This becomes a cat and mouse game! Well written story with relatable characters and a very engrossing crimes to be solved reading adventure. Recommended 5 star book.
