Sinopsis

The Goddess in India identifies the five faces of the eternal feminine in Hindu lore. At first the archetypal female is identified with Nature. Next she is seen as the primal mother, the fountainhead of life and nurturance. The mother then transforms into the dancing nymph, a seductress offering worldly pleasures. As this nymph is domesticated, the dominant image of woman is the chaste wife with miraculous powers. Finally the consort redefines herself as the wild and terrifying goddess who does battle, drinks blood, and demands appeasement. This study sheds light on the ancient wisdom of India, where it is said there is a goddess in every village, a nymph in every lake.
