What was I even doing January of 2014? It feels not so long ago, yet so far away at the same time! This book felt something we should be getting Now. I’m kind of at a loss for words over the fact that this book released in 2014 and has conversation pieces in it that are still So Relevant. Makes me wonder if Kiss was yet another Harlequin line that was ahead of it’s time..?
This is a True workplace romance. I love workplace romances but a lot of them now feel very much …we work together, he needs a fake date and insert plot plot plot. In this one I’d say 90% literally takes place at work. Work felt another character in the book and is such a driving force for the plot. It’s sexy as hell. The heroine works with a misogynistic as hell boss. And trigger warning for Abortion. Becky bertemu dengan Mark di Las Vegas dalam acara penghargaan di bidang advertising. Keduanya menghabiskan satu malam bersama. Seharusnya apa yan terjadi di Vegas, tertinggal di Vegas, namun Becky menemui kenyataan Mark adalah karyawan baru di tempatnya bekerja. Bukan hanya itu, Mark juga sedang memperebutkan posisi creative director yang sudah lama diincar Becky.

Atasan mereka kemudian membuat kompetisi di antara keduanya untuk merancang iklan untuk sebuah perusahaan produsen youghurt. Tapi ide cemerlang Becky ternyata jauh lebih baik jika digabungkan dengan ide Mark. Akhirnya mereka ditempatkan dalam satu tim. Masalah muncul saat Becky mendapati dirinya hamil, dan tentu saja Mark menolak untuk terlibat dalam mengasuh anak mereka. Puncaknya, Becky meninggalkan agensi karena ketahuan memiliki hubungan dengan Mark.

Alur cerita yang cepat, dan tentu saja hot, membuat novel ini dapat dibaca dengan segera. Tidak sulit merasakan simpati pada Becky, sebagai seorang perempuan di dunia kerja yang menuntut gerak cepat dan sepertinya masih dikuasai oleh pria. Mark sendiri punya issue masa lalu yang membuatnya tidak percaya akan hubungan jangka panjang. Tapi seharusnya Mark bisa lebih peka, apalagi setelah Becky menceritakan masa lalunya. Untungnya Mark segera menyadari kesalahannya. Lumayanlah untuk bacaan akhir pekan.

Everything was half cooked. Either the romance or the work-related issue.
I couldn't feel the chemistry or the thrill. The campaign was vague, we were forced to believe that the presentation was good enough to win the tender.
I also didn't believe what Mark and Becky felt was love. It was just lust, just the title.

Premis yang cukup umum sih (aku pernah baca CR dengan premis yang sama: kompetisi yang ujung-ujungnya berakhir jadi kisah percintaan panas, yaaa kisah ini jadi kehilangan keunikannya), dengan tokoh yang sifatnya menyebalkan (terutama hero-nya) dan heroine yang kurang nendang. In the midst of all the fun, romance and passionate interludes, and there are quite a few moments of complete and utter abandonment, the author has incorporated some serious sub-plots into the story.

The gender inequality in the top tiers of the business world is still a huge problem, despite being well into the 21st century. The boy club still believes women are not cut out to be at the top or at all capable of leading. Becky has to deal with the insulting behaviour of her boss, who thinks women are better off barefoot, pregnant and serving their men.

As if that wasn’t enough she now has to compete for the position previously promised to her. Compete against Mark, her exciting and unforgettable one night stand. Someone she definitely didn’t expect to see ever again. Now they have to go head to head to prove which one of them is best at their job.

Sounds simple and it would be if it weren’t for the backstabbing, the betrayal and intense physical attraction between Mark and Becky. No room, carpet, elevator, table or chair is safe from their tumultuous physical relationship. This is certainly a very passion driven romance.

I received a copy as an ARC from the author herself. I'm not much of a romance reader, but this book could definitely turn me into one. It's smart, sexy, modern, and fun. Becky and Mark are real people just trying to make it in the high stakes world of advertising, competing for a job that could secure either of their futures. I love that they decide to have a little fun with each other along the way. What makes the book exceptional is the author's attention to detail and knowledge of the advertising world. I now want to go to New York and be a fly on the wall in an advertising agency, or just see Central Park for myself. Also, Ms. Page allows the story to get very real. There are actual consequences to even a "just-for-fun" relationship, and I enjoyed reading how Mark and Becky come to terms with those consequences. A great first book by Amber Page, and I'm hoping to read more in the future.local-authors1 June1,539 17

Mark and Becky both work in the Ad Agency world. They have both won numerous awards for the work. A week finds them both in Vegas spending one night together. When Becky returns to work and finds that Mark has been hired to help out with a campaign, she isn't too happy. What happens in Vegas si supposed to stay in Vegas, after all.

Soon they are working together to put together a presentation to the new company to get a contract with them. There's an added bonus when Becky's ex-boss/fling is also up for the contract.

When history repeats itself, Becky has to make some hard decisions. Mark also has to face what he sees as a pathetic life and make some hard decisions about where life will take the two of them.

Unfortunately, not a big fan of this one. I had a very hard time connecting to both the hero and heroine. I also wanted more reasons as to why they were attracted to each other.
