Nichole's birthday is coming and she wants it to be very special. So, she decides to rent a bus and have the birthday at a beach house. The closest are invited, her father, Charles and his girlfriend, Kate, her boyfriend, Laurence and her next door neighbor, Tristan who owns the small town bookstore. When Laurence shows up, he has another girl with him. Things get definitely out of control with the bus breaking down in a strange town and the party goers having to stay at a hotel in the town. And then of course, there's a murder and when Kate gets arrested, it is up to the rest of them to try and figure out who the murderer actually was to free innocent Kate. Not only are treated to a murder, but to abusive behavior, drugs and a reformed mobster. This book was a fast read. When I began however, I thought Nichole was 12 years old with the way she was so excited about her birthday and that threw me. She appeared to be very immature. Intriguing discrepancy between the book’s cover title and that in the stores. “A Birthday Murder” might work better.

The structure is well-executed, with a clear setup, and twists that keep readers engaged.

The transition from a fun getaway to a suspenseful mystery is a little sudden.

Smoother transitions between the light-hearted and suspenseful moments would enhance the overall reading experience.

The descriptions of the various settings, from the charming bookshop in Maine to the creepy, dilapidated motel, intensify the atmosphere.

I have never read anything by Olivia Page before, OMG this was fantastic! Nichole's birthday is coming up, and she is planning a beach house birthday getaway. This will include herself, her boyfriend Laurence, her dad Charles, his girlfriend Kate, and Tristan their neighbor. The party does not turn out as expected. Someone will die, by who, and why? How can a birthday getaway go so wrong?
Fun book to read. The switching between the different characters is a little different, but makes it more interesting. Lots of twists along the way. Really fun.
