What a rollercoaster of a read!

This book should come with quite a few trigger warnings. It’s very dark and deals with a lot of issues around violence, sexual abuse, drug addiction and other similar themes.

The premise is that twins, previously separated at birth, swap lives, both with their own ulterior motives, which aren’t revealed at the time. Neither of them has had the best life so far and both are seeking an improvement on their current situation. Little do they know what they are getting themselves into.

The story is fast paced, switching perspectives every few pages. It keeps you turning the pages and it’s definitely a book you don’t want to put down. Well worth a read!bloodhound-arc fiction psychological-suspense ...more2 s Heather Cairns82 10

I enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting. Lots and lots going on and kept me gripped although I felt it got quite busy at the end with characters and I got a little mixed up with the changing chapters and characters coming together. 1 Lin Perrett297 97

Twin sisters Sadie and Lorna were separated at birth and adopted by different families. Sadie tracks Lorna down and approaches her. She tells Lorna she knows her husband is abusive towards her and offers to trade places. Sadie agrees and the twins swap lives. The Twins: by NJ Moss.
Twin sisters trade lives—and step into each other’s nightmares. Sadie knows her twin sister’s husband is abusive and offers to switch places with Lorna to keep her safe. But Sadie has her own reasons for wanting to live her sister’s life…Lorna temporarily finds sanctuary in Sadie’s apartment, until she discovers the devastating reason that her sister wanted to switch lives.
A brilliant read. Twisty and gripping. What a roller coaster of a read. 5*.1 Helen62 2

What another fantastic book from NJ Moss, I really didn’t want to put this book down and do the things I needed to do. There is no messing about, and you are hooked from the beginning a real page turner. I love the way he writes in short paragraphs interchanging between of the twins this kept me hooked.
The twins Lorna and Sadie were separated at birth, one of the twins Lorna is in an abusive, violent marriage with an unusual relationship with her brother in law and his wife. The other twin Sadie is a drug addict who has gone cold turkey since she found out she is pregnant, but she does not know who the father is. Sadie offers to switch lives with Lorna, and Lorna agrees to switch and believes she would be better off without her husband. She soon realises that her twin also was running and had her own reasons to escape her life.
I loved the way the book kept me guessing and I really had not idea how the book was going to finish, which I love. A definite 5* read.

A clever premise that hooked me from the start. Identical twins who swap places having only just discovered each other exist after being adopted at birth. Lorna has an abusive husband which somehow the other one Sadie, has found out about and leads Lorna to think she can sort things out and give her a break from the abuse. Lorna in turn goes from a luxurious house to a grotty flat where Sadie lives and it looks Sadie has been using drugs and has far more going on than she let on. Each sister has a notebook of things they should know about the other's life. The trouble is not all of it is true- both of them have their own reason for the swap. Who are the real enemies and can they keep their individual identities a secret?
OMG! As with all Nathan’s books, there’s a tension, an unease from very early on which draws the reader in. A premise that had my head spinning to begin with (it’s easy to follow- each chapter is headed with the name of the sister narrating, and occasional chapters are from an unknown someone else). In parts it’s raw and dark, perhaps not a read for the nervous. A clever, chilling read that had me hooked.

Lorna is astonished to receive a strange note and as a result subsequently meets up with her twin sister Sadie, a woman she has never seen before. Lorna and Sadie were adopted by different families and Sadie says her dying mother made her promise to look after Lorna. Sadie knows all about Lorna’s controlling abusive husband Malcolm and offers to swap places with her. Each twin realises the other is not telling them the whole truth. Each lady is wanting to escape from something bad. But what each doesn’t know is what kind of hellish danger they are running into as the women’s new lives quickly become darker and more terrifying than before. But who can they trust and rely upon besides themselves?
Punchy short chapters tell the story from both sides with intriguing little snippets from an unknown storyteller. The reader is immediately thrown into this twisty story which doesn’t pull its punches in terms of the abuse suffered and the sheer darkness and depravity of some of the characters. As for the ending…. wow, I did not see any of that coming! I think this just has to be the finest to date from this author!

If anyone has read any of Nathan's books before then you know what a dark and deliciously disturbing mind he has!
He has the ability to draw you in right from that first sentence to the last full stop.
This is a truly dark and twisted psychological thriller.

Lorna and Sadie are twins that were separated at birth and had two completely different childhoods.
Sadie came from a loving home but got mixed up with the wrong people.
Lorna couldn't wait to leave her family home quick enough and fell for her husband but in reality she is better off without him.
After Sadie tracks down her twin sister she soon discovers that her husband is abusing her, but what Sadie offers Lorna is an escape route.
They will swap lives so that meek Lorna can release herself from her marriage without any consequence.
But what or who is Sadie running from and what dangers has she put Lorna in?
As the story unfolds you will find out just what secrets the twins have be hidden away.
With some fantastic twists and plotlines The Twins will have you hooked.

This book will definitely challenge your thinking and expose you to some dark themes which may be a trigger for some so please read the blurb first.

It took me a while to get in to this book as I struggled to keep up with the twins, who was who and where were they, but once I settled in to it and understood how the writer worked, it drew me in. My one tip is to try to read it in as few sessions as possible so that you don't lose the thread.

I don't want to give any spoilers but getting your head around twins swapping lives and all their back story can be tricky but definitely shows an incredible imagination.

I read it on holiday and it was a great sunbed read! If you want to have your view of 'normal' challenged then this book is for you! Quite a few twists along the way to keep you thinking and hooked for the next chapter!

This is the first book that I've read by this author, but I'm pretty sure that it won't be my last! This was such a good, twisted, psychological thriller.

I did take a little few chapters to become fully invested in this one because as the twins switched places, my head was all over the place keeping track of who was who and who they were with now as well as in the past.

But it really didn't take too long before I was completely immersed.

I often wonder how many twins could actually fool loved ones by trading places. I don't think I'd be able to keep up the act.

Our girls here do a great job, until their new lives threw up issues and left them feeling that they weren't safe in either this or their own lives.

There were some tricky themes discussed throughout this, so please do check out the blurb before reading - but if you're ok reading the real brutal and gritty side of life, then this was so well done.

Once I got into the storyline and connected more with the characters, I really d the writing style.
It was open and honest and really took you to some dark places.

This is definitely an author that I'd to explore more and can't wait for my next read. Booklover BEV1,479 21

Looks can be deceiving.
Sadie and Lorna identical twins separated at birth find each other. And then there's Malcolm Lorna's husband.
Sadie is here to save her life, if she left he would find and break her and Sadie is going to take her place and promise that Malcolm will never hurt her again, and Sadie is doing this for another reason to keep herself safe too. He is one dangerous controlling piece of dirt.
Wow what a weird story, at first I though this will never work out, he will find out the truth.
You become hooked, you become scared, you don't know what the next chapter will bring, and as time ticks over this book becomes so surreal, unbelievable and a fantastic read.
I absolutely could not put it down. It will defo become one of the best authors work I have read so far. Alison Taylor-Muhl184 5

This story has a very unique plotline which grabbed me immediately. For the first few chapters, I did worry that I would get confused as to which twin, I was reading about, however as the tale flowed it became very clear. The storylines for each of the characters are very deep (and at times distressing) and for me, it raised the old ‘nature v nurture’ debate in many places. The tale is violent and dark throughout, dealing with hard to read topics such as murder, rape, and domestic violence. I personally feel that the author handled these sections well and didn’t include gratuitous descriptions of the acts (which I was grateful for). All in all, this is a somewhat surreal tale, which is totally unbelievable in places - making it a superb read.

Another thrilling book from this author who is fast becoming a master of twists and turns in this rollercoaster of a story.
Twins, Sadie and Lorna, who were separated at birth come back in touch with each other. They swap lives believing that they would be better off in the others life. Lorna is married to a wealthy business man who is also very abusive to his wife. Sadie is a drug abuser who had a drug gang chasing her. Both are in danger irrespective of what life they live.
Each twin spirals into more danger as every day passes.
The book is easy to read despite the disturbing storyline and each chapter alternates between the twins. An enthralling read. I would encourage you to read the blurb before reading this book as it can be dark and disturbing and not everyone's cup of tea Bobbi Wagner4,347 43

This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites yet. I enjoy this author's writing style as well as their attention to details to make the story realistic. This is a well written story where the twists and turns had me sitting on the edge of my seat. A story where the characters pull you into their world with ease and keep you there until the end. I enjoyed the characters and what they brought to the story. The twins are great characters that really make the story. They are strong, engaging, and connectable. I enjoyed watching the growth throughout of the characters and plot which made the story easy to read. I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it. Carol Borcher33 2

Another great book by NJ Moss, who never disappoints! I enjoyed this book right from the beginning and it kept me captivated throughout (I did not get many chores done, LOL). Twins Lorna and Sadie were separated at birth. The one twin Lorna, is in an abusive and violent marriage. Sadie wants to help her sister by swopping lives with her, but for her own selfish, personal reasons. Sadie wants to ensure that Malcolm, Lorna's violent husband, will never hurt her again. Sadie is a drug user who is being chased by a drug gang. Each sister's lives are in danger and this escalates as each day passes. What an intriguing and addictive thriller, but not for the faint hearted. I did not predict the ending at all. Thanks for my ARC copy Carole271 1 follower

I'm still not entirely certain how I feel about this novel. The idea of twins exchanging places is fascinating but there were elements of this novel which I found quite distasteful. I'm not narrow minded by any means but rape, sexual abuse, child pornography, ?rug abuse, domestic violence and more means that this is a very dark storyline.
I didn't find any of the characters in this novel able, most were despicable. The author developed the story at a good place, with numerous twists. I just wish for me that there had been a lighter side to the story at times. Not an easy read, which I feel some might find distressing. Tracy ann Robinson967 24

now this book is so addictive read it in a day. what would you do? if someone looked you? And offered you a way out of your life? from a controlling husband. Lorna gets a letter. I know what your husband does to you. she meets her twin Sadie in a cafe that she never knew about. they so look each other. Sadie thinks. That Lorna has it all living with Malcom won't be so bad from what she is running from.so they swap lives each one is in for a shock. it's so addictive and not for the faint hearted a brilliant read from this author. Lies deceit and murder. Sarahlovesbooks76483 12

Another dark and twisting tale from NJ Moss. The Twins sees Lorna and Susie swapping lives after each secretly deciding the other has the better deal. What follows is shocking revelation after shocking revelation. Can they keep their swap secret and more importantly, stay alive?

I found this book to be highly disturbing, and at times extremely confusing. I love NJ Moss's writing style, and as such was determined to finish it (which I did). However, this time round, the book, and its content, were not for me. Julie Lacey1,787 110

This is a great psychological thriller.
Sadie tracks down her twin sister and sees her being beaten up by her husband Malcolm.
She arranges to meet Lorna and offers to take her place with Malcolm.
Lorna can’t understand why she would do this but goes along with it.
When Lorna moves into Sadie’s basic flat she soon realises her life was not as quiet as she led her to believe.
With both twins hiding secrets from the other, the swap of lifestyles doesn’t quite go to plan.
This is a gripping thriller.

Beware of thinking that the grass is greener on the other side is the lesson this book describes in perfection. The characters are onions--full of layers---and the plot itself unfolds a cinnamon bun just not quite in that nice round way since there are enough twists and turns to make this story need a sign that says "curve up ahead" or you might get hurt thinking you are on the right path. N.J. Moss is a master storyteller especially when it involves some darkness. I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book.bloodhound-books-fb Emma Ounsworth331 3

I’m on the fence about this book, whilst I enjoyed the style of writing and the way it flipped back and forth from each twins viewpoint, I couldn’t quite get into the story.
I didn’t particularly either twin and that’s an issue to me, I prefer to at least one person in a book however, I’ve heard many good things about this author so although this book wasn’t really for me, I intend to try others. Kirstie Cooper502 13

I am a huge fan of Nathan's books, and this one didn't disappoint.
The storyline sucked me in from the start, and I literally couldn't put it down.
Was quite brutal in places and spoke about stuff, that isn't always easy to read, but I the fact that Nathan isn't afraid to explore content, that others don't and I think that's what makes his books stand out.
Great read, that I won't forget in a hurry! Stacy218 86

As always with NJ Moss books, this one was dark and disturbing and full of triggers. It started out good, but then it got weird. I didn't really how it all came together. I also found myself confusing the twins. I wanted to it more than I did, but it just wasn't for me.

I do 'enjoy' reading a book by this author they are always dark and you never know what to expect. There are enough twists to keep you guessing and the characters are completely 'unreliable'. I would be concerned reading this is domestic violence, rape could trigger you as it is quite graphic.

I was given an advance copy by bloodhound books but the review is entirely my own. 2023-arcs 2023-reads-and-listens bloodhound ...more1 Jody329

Twisted and demented, an absolutely delightful read, The Twins, by N J Moss, is the story of twin sisters who decide to switch lives. Each sister leaves behind drama and danger only to walk unknowingly into different drama and danger. Lots of twists and turns as the sisters navigate all the dangers and try to come out of it all alive. Terry 797 28

Well these ladies might be twins, they don’t know each other at all.
The inside is what counts after all. Dark and a very dodgy pair.
They hate what they have themselves and a plot ensues. Who’s leading who though.
Really enjoyed this book.

This was an interesting psychological thriller that follows identical twins Sadie and Lorna as they decide to swap lives to escape their own problems. What follows is a web of Deceit, lies and unexpected revelations! An intense psychological thriller with unexpected twists! I received a free copy of the book and this is my voluntary and honest review. Stacey Hayward49 1 follower

Not what I expected

Very gory at times but you almost sympathise with what these women have been through and the reasons for their actions. The connections between the characters is very well written though I would still to see them develop further and continue on to a kind of freedom of possible Eleanor Jordan O'Farrell59 5
