Sinopsis

Vanessa isn't her real name. Nobody knows what it is or where she came from. All they know is that the Woman in the Cupboard was found at the scene of a grisly double murder. And that she doesn't speak.

Detective Mo Sterling and her partner, Sgt, D'Angelo, set out to solve the homicide cases—the murders of prominent Philadelphiians Mr. and Mrs. Dixon Granger, and the investigation leads them into dark and unknown territory, a subculture of secrecy, power, potions, poisons and unresolved passions. The Woman in the Cupboard is a story about a series of murders that are seemingly related but there is no obvious motive or suspect. When two detectives reach the scene of a double murder they find few clues until they find a mysterious woman in the cupboard. This woman has no memory of the murders and is seemingly unable to communicate either who she is or whether she was a witness to the murders. As the detectives begin to investigate they find themselves embroiled in a more dangerous international web of human trafficking than they could have imagined.

Where this book goes was a completely new direction for me, I found it really intriguing learning about a culture that I hadn't had prior experience. I will caveat, that I don't know how true any of it was to the true culture but I enjoyed the fictionalized version of it as a part of the story. I don't want to go into details because it would spoil it but its a great murder mystery with lots of dark characters and suspects. The ending was quite good, I d the way it all wrapped up.

My only criticism is that I found D'Angelo very challenging to read early on, he seemed a bit of a machismo cop stereotype, which rubbed me the wrong way. But I did come around on him as the story went, so have patience with that if you pick this one up.

What a suspense thriller weekend it was. What if I tell you that I experienced a realistic suspense while reading a book and which was much much much better than watching it, what would you reactions be? I am sure you would want to read it as soon as possible. So the people who were constantly popping up dms regarding the suspense/mystery thrillers the wait it over. The book is called "The woman in the cupboard".
Starting with the title of the book, "The woman in the cupboard" itself gives a mystery. It is a title that makes the viewer curious about the book. That's the best feature a title carries. So personally when I read the title I had a few questions who is the Woman and why is she in the cupboard also I was curious to know more about it so I would say it's the perfect title for the book. Cover on the other hand is created in relevance to the story and the title, it gives a mysterious vibe so I would say the outer appearance of the book is attractive and grabs the viewers attention. For the title and the cover I would to give it a 2/2.
Talking about the plot of the book, so when we talk about mysteries the X factor which creates a thrilling and memorable experience are the details mentioned and there is a certain way of writing it, it should be written in a way that the reader skips a beat of heart. To be very honest I loved the way book was narrated and the details, conversations, characters these are the heads that deserve an appreciation. It was written a pro by the Author. So basically the story revolves around the recent murders which are connected to each other in a different way. The cases are being investigated by 2 deactivates Mo and D'Angelo. Now if generally while reading the most attention of the readers goes to the mystery and story un this one, the defectives Mo and D'Angelo are very different characters, something I have never experienced. I would say they were the characters responsible for the smooth flow of the storyline and I loved it. Now during the investigation they reach a location of murder, while searching they find a "Woman in the Cupboard" now the woman is a mystery herself, she doesn't have any memories and also is unable to communicate what is it that needs to unfold? I was so into the book that it felt I was literally experiencing all of it. The fact that it was all so realistic made it a memorable read and I congratulate the author for this achievement. Also I would to thank the author for giving me such an experience through the book. For the storyline I would to give it a 2/2.
Talking about the words and the language used in the book, in terms of difficulty I would say while reading it I didn't feel any difficulty. I really enjoyed it and I guess the credit goes to choice of words and the editing too. I would highly recommend the book and it's a stand out which deserves more and more suspense / mystery fans so what are you guys waiting for go grab your copy fast. Debbie Rozier977 60

The book features two homicide detectives Mo and D’Angelo from the Philadelphia Police Department who are trying to solve a double homicide. The Granger’s are wealthy and real dead. There are also two recently open cases with a similar MO and a connection to Mr. Granger. As Mo is searching the house, she finds a catatonic woman in a white uniform sitting in the pantry. The detectives have to find out the identity of the woman in the cupboard and the killer..

There is a connection with Haiti in this book and talk of voudou. My husband has supported a medial clinic in a remote part of Haiti for over 25 years. I have gone with him to Haiti before and I can tell you first hand at night you can here the voudou chants and drums. It is un anything I have ever experienced so to have that part of the Haitian culture in this book made this very realistic for me.

This book is told mostly in first person by Mo and I really d that. I love Mo. She is meticulous, has loads of common sense and shows a very human side to being a female detective. Other chapters are told by the lady found in the cupboard. Her chapters really evolve as you find out more about who she is and her role in the plot.

Details make this such a great for me as well. One of my favorite details is the mention in passing in a few chapters but which sticks out to me are Mo and D’Angelo’s conversations about his wife’s dreams that could be called premonitions.

Between the revelation of the connections between all the characters and the action packed conclusion, I was blown away! thereadingowlvina (Elvina Ulrich)912 45

The Story: It begins with a call to a crime scene, where philanthropist couple - Dixon & Judith Granger - were found brutally murdered. While Detective Mo Sterling is doing a walk-through in the house, she finds a woman hiding in the pantry and she does not speak. A few days later in the hospital, the woman finally whispers three words to Detective Mo - "I do not live." This baffles her, and as more murders occurred, Detective Mo realised that it may take more than her skills to solve this strange case.

My thoughts: This is a slow burn mystery with an intriguing premise that centers around a culture that I know little about! It was very clever and interesting for a mystery.

We see the mystery unravels mostly through Mo's POV with all the surprising twists and turns. It was engaging despite a lot of details in the story which I do not mind. I think they added depth to the overall plot.

I loved that Mo and her partner, D'Angelo has a great working relationship and it feels real. Mo is a able character, but I do wish I could connect with D'Angelo character more. He cares for Mo but sometimes did come across as a bit presumptuous.

Overall, this was one enjoyable mystery and I am glad that I've read it. I loved the suspense and how everything comes together in the end.

This was one wild ride of a book.  I was hooked from the story right from the start and not only was I interested in who committed the murders, but the extra added mystery of the woman found in the cupboard was absolutely phenomenal. I loved finding out her story and how she ended up in the cupboard not speaking, communicating or knowing her own name. A very fast paced mysterious, intriguing read with a mind blowing ending.

This book was very slow moving for the first half. I was a bit confused about the characters at first, because I am not used to following a murder in a book; but let me tell you. About half way in, the book picked up pace and it was NOTHING I’ve ever read before! It was catchy and creative ideas and I couldn’t put it down. I needed to learn more information about what was going on with the woman they found in the cupboard. They say, patience is a virtue; and in this, it definitely is!!! Good story line that you would not expect coming! Catherine Poe86 1 follower

Grisly murders of a prominent Philadelphia couple. A woman found in a cupboard at the scene of the crime, unable to speak. And that is just the beginning of the dark, vicious crimes that have occurred. Little by little, the detectives learn more as the woman regains parts of her speech and what they are learning is a horrifying look into the sordid world of human trafficking, drugs, and murder. A thrilling twisty detective story with plenty of surprises! Elizabeth569 14

I just love a good crime novel, chock full of suspense and twists and turns. A series of murders take place. Two detectives are our main characters. I was hooked from page one and could not put this book down. From cover to cover it was a ride but the best part was finding the woman in the cupboard who could not speak and then trying to figure out why she was there. Fantastic!!
