Sinopsis

Sometimes the worst thing imaginable turns out very differently, but moving doesn’t mean your enemies can’t find you.

Having never failed anyone’s expectations to him, Alex finds it difficult to deal with having lost a valuable artifact, lied to Pritchard, and falsified a report to Mr. Henry. A whole new life in the States lies ahead of him. But Alex doesn’t like changes. The only things that keep him somewhat grounded are the calloused hands of the sadist, Dominic, and the support of the young demigod, Kaleb.

He had never expected Pritchard to keep their secret, but he did, and the stay in Philadelphia turns out very different from what he expected. Learning more about Pritchard and his past tips Alex’s understanding of a man he has hated and feared more than anyone, but depended upon with his life.

But moving to another continent doesn’t mean they escape an adversary so invisible that not even the Earned see them coming.

I enjoyed this continuation of the story, characters and world that the author created in her first book in this series. Honestly, it had been a while since I read Anchored in Stone, so I re-read it before starting this one so that I would remember who everyone is. That said, I would highly recommend you read these books in order. Since the characters flow forward and it is a direct continuation, you would probably be lost without the background and world building done in book one.

So let’s talk about the story. Two Sides of a Coin continues to focus on Alex and Pritchard, and the rest of the characters that we met in book one. Alex, you might remember, was sold by his father when a pick pocketing went wrong. Alex ended up with a very rare and very expensive coin, which he gave to his dad, who promptly lost it in a poker game. The father, a deadbeat drunk, gladly gave the men who came looking for the coin his own son as compensation for the lost coin. In book one we heard how Alex became a master art thief, and working with his guard/keeper, a man named Pritchard, he continued to increase in the complexity of the thefts he was sent on. When he found a special stone in which an Earned (a Demigod) had been imprisoned, he learned that there was much more to the world than we common mortals see and know. The Earned, Kaleb, became tied to Alex and then trouble arose.

Alex and Pritchard have been disowned by the shadowy “Mr. Henry” who has basically owned both of them as a result of them each having stolen the mysterious coin at one point. He has supported them, educated them, and all they had to do in return was to “belong” to him. They both fear him for different reasons, but it comes down to power. Whoever this man really is, he is very powerful and holds in his hands the fate of not only the two men, but in the case of Pritchard, the fate of his family and friends as well. Mr. Henry is furious at the loss of the stone, but knows nothing about the Earned. Or at least we aren’t sure if he does or not.

He casts the two men out with no money and no home, but does secure a part time job at a museum in Philadelphia for Alex. That is more as a way of keeping track of Alex’s movements though. This book tells their story from that point forward, as they become more entangled in the world of the Earned. The world building in these books is extensive, and there are a large number of characters, many of them in the background. If I’m being honest, I have to tell you that a few times I lost track of who some of the Earned were in Kaleb’s family pack. There was also a troubled female character that Kaleb saved from being run down by a truck that then we never heard from again?

I highly recommend the two books in this series so far. While I really d Two Sides of a Coin, honestly I really didn’t the ending. I’m hoping though that it will seque directly over into book three, Marked by Shadow, which is coming out in a couple weeks. I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens next and I can’t wait to see what happens when Pritchard finds out about Dominic. And finally, I really need to know what will happen with Kaleb. The sign of a good author…she left me anxiously awaiting MORE!2 s Levi483 17

Wow...!

Great sequel Meraki!!! ...and again i couldn't put it down!

In this sequel we learn about Alex's and Pritchard 's life in Philadelphia. Pritchard ...sigh*. I just luuv this guy. Meeting Pritchard past Alex see a side of him he didn't knew could be there. But Alex is happy and more relaxed. His new job at the museum keeps him busy. Dominic often visits him and playing the voyeur from behind the veil.

Pritchard even though we can not see his POV in the story i wanna mention this guy! I was bugging Meraki with different scenarios i would to see him in ... sorry Meraki ... not :P . Pritchard has so much repressed feelings in him i just wanna hug it out with him but probably i would end up with my ass handled to me ... I so enjoyed the family time between him and Alex, and his protectiveness toward him just makes me love him more.

Kaleb is in struggle. He didn't feel welcomed by other Earned even if he does everything to help theme. His powers are growing and he learns that he has a third element he can manipulate ... but this make things even worse. Mickey finding out about theme adds a bit to the pile, Kelab insecurities growing and he fears his fall...

Dominic is in LOVE!!!! ... and i leave you with that with a huge grin on my face!

This story is more emotional, and in the end, i must admit, i had teary eyes... i'm not saying why, you'll see it!

****I would to thank the author again for the privilege and opportunity of reading this ARC. My review is an honest opinion of the book****

Excellent installment in brilliant series

I thought I loved these characters in the first book, but here the depth of their identities, quirks, and passions become more prominent and thoroughly explored, meaning I adore them even more. This is such a well written story and keeps building a more vibrant mythology. It’s a genre-defying series that keeps the reader intrigued by the characters and the depth of the narrative. It’s a must read. 1 multitaskingmomma1,359 45

My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

Chronicles of the Earned Book #2 is another high fantasy work of art by author Meraki P. Lyhne. If follows the story of Alex and Pritchard, as well as the secondary cast of characters we met in the first book, Anchored in Stone, which was a roller coaster of a read. This second book took my breath away, for your information. Now, at this point, if you haven't read the first book, stop and turn around. This second installment continues where that first left off so coming in now would only leave you confused. If you've read the first book of this series, go ahead and continue reading.

In this particular installment, without going into too many details, Alex and Pritchard find themselves in a bit of bind. They'd been thrown out on their asses, so to speak, by their shadowy owner who'd trained and controlled Alex's life strings a grand puppeteer. This is because the stone that Alex got in book one disappeared. Thankfully, the owner never found out (or at least I think he never found out) about the other complication: the Earned. As for the relationship between Alex and Pritchard, we see quite an improvement here, a softening of the two toward each other.

Another character I would to mention is Kaleb and his increasing importance in this story. We get to meet his pack, or family, we get to experience his love for Mickey and we also see his powers growing. I know he's going to gain more importance in the third book, as I've read and got the surprise of my life after reading the ending.

Can I just glare at the author now...if looks could kill...laser beams going right at you...

Now I have to read the third book! This cannot be!

Oh, yes. I highly recommend this series...glares at the man called Meraki.
