Sinopsis

Unwittingly, Nathan unlocks a spell and becomes the master of a man enslaved by shadow.

While sorting through an old estate in the basement of an auction house, Nathan finds a gold bracelet with strange markings on it. He recognizes it as an ancient language and reads the inscription out loud. This makes him the master of a man, Lucien, cursed into shadow by the Thule Society during WWII. As this whole new world of the paranormal is revealed to Nathan, he finds both love and a fierce loyalty from Lucien, the man now bound to him—a loyalty he is going to need, as the men who made Lucien into what he is want him back. And they are willing to kill anyone who stands in their way.

I am terribly disappointed this is not Kaleb's story. Which means, I am still glaring at the author for not giving me the pleasure of knowing what happens next. It's , whoa! A splash of cold water or something and when I opened my eyes, it's a dude named Nathan and his discovery of gold bracelet and he becomes master to some character named Lucien. I don't know any of these guys...disappointment lasted a few minutes and then the read continued and oh boy. This was way better than I expected. True, I kept sighing over Kaleb, but this story.

No, it is not to the level of the first two books, which is surprising to say as I rated this just as high as the others. Why? Well, because it is such an interesting read and the fact that this is a standalone and seems to be not at all connected to the Earned world, it is connected in a much different way. As for the writing style? Again, horribly fantastic talent here in my hands and I am just wondering how Meraki Lyhne could even come up with these stories and not get lost? I mean, this is a huge world he's built and it's complicated, and compelling, and confusing, and so mind boggling it's weird.

Okay, I am not spoiling stuff, the other reviewers have done so already. What I am going to do is just say, I highly recommend this series and if you haven't picked it up yet, do so now. I am off to the fourth book. Excuse me... while I disappear!

If you are waiting to read about Kaleb's transformation you are wrong, Meraki seems to torture us with this intermezzo ... cheers luv (oh just for the record i was sarcastic).

Even though the book is 3rd of the series it can really read as a stand alone. The story happens before Kaleb was freed.

The book has not as much angst as the two before, saying i was enjoying it it says little. Nathan is a geek who is working for an auction house sorting trough thinks who may be sold. He has an eye for this things, and one day going through some dead man belongings he finds a golden bracelet with interesting scripting. He's curiosity gets the better of him and he tries do decipher reading it out loud ending up with Lucien tied to him.

Lucien is a Shadow, guarding his second Master's grave till he is summoned by his new Master Nathan. He can't decline a direct order, he just hopes that Nathan will be not as his first Master who was part of the Thule society. But Nathan is nothing what Lucien expects, he is kind caring and the attraction between the two is sudden and burning. Lucien feels alive again, and he will do anything to protect his new Master.

Although in this book are no Earned(except for the professor but for just a brief moment) we will see Pritchard (my sweet sweet Pritchard) and Henry. I'm not sure about Henry though. He is member of the Order who protects the Shadows, they are good guys, but meeting Henry before i really dis his "convincing" methods.

I can't wait to read the next of this series!!!!

****I would to thank again and again the author for the privilege and opportunity of reading this ARC. My review is an honest opinion of the book****

Mostly good but also kind of boring. Definitely not enough action for me. I wanted things to be a little more exciting and frantic. I kept expecting the bad guys to kidnap Nathan or something to that effect and it never happened so I was disappointed, I guess. The other shoe just never dropped so this felt more half of a story really. Even the "chase" scenes were lame. This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.Show full review1 Virginia Lee1,886 33

This is the 3rd book in the series of the Chronicles of an Earned. We did go along a different path then the previous book of Kaleb and Alex. In this one with meet a group that has be transform into shadows and their Master. Can read this book as stand alone but would recommend reading in order as there are characters that are important in the Earned books. Nathan has goals that he work very hard for and now things have gone out line. Lucian has fallen for his master & now things have really kick off the charts in the book. The trill and action will keep you on the edge. Highly recommend this book and series. Cant wait for the next book need more of my Kaleb

My favorite so far of the series! Really good. Daniel MittonAuthor 3 books36

(Originally reviewed for Love Bytes Reviews with a copy provided by the publisher / author for an honest review.)

I was a little confused when I began reading this one. I was expecting it to begin right after the end of book two, Two Sides of a Coin, but it didn’t. Who was this Nathan guy I wondered? What did this have to do with the story?

Well, I have to tell you, I think this was my favorite of the three books so far! I loved getting to know Nathan and Lucien, as well as the other characters introduced in this one. I also enjoyed learning more about Mr. Henry, who by the end of book two I had thought was an evil doer. Turns out…not so much. I also enjoyed that we got to see Pritchard, outside the role we saw him in during the first two books.

Nathan is a young Assistant Curator at an auction house as well as a national level Taekwondo fighter. One day while sorting some items from an old estate he finds a forearm-long gold bracelet and being a language guru, he sounds out how to say the words on the bracelet. Before he knows what is happening the gold bracelet has ‘melted’ into his arm, becoming a large forearm tattoo. Shortly thereafter he finds out he is now the master of a man from the shadows, named Lucien.

Nathan is drawn into a supernatural world. One he never knew existed amongst our own, but a world that readers of Ms. Lyhne’s books will recognize, or will at least recognize from the side. I was intrigued with these new characters and the entire Order they ended up with. As usual, the author’s ability at world building and character development is excellent. I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here. It appears that this storyline will merge with the previous one, but I’m not sure when or how.

Great job Ms. Lyhne. You will definitely keep me coming back for more! I highly recommend this series. If you haven’t started it yet, I would recommend reading them in order, but that said, this current one is ‘outside’ the first storyline, so you could read 3, 1, 2 if you want to, in my opinion.1 Meraki P.
