Sinopsis

Every story has a beginning. Even Walker's. He wasn't always sitting here... talking to you. He never had a reason before. He doesn't have a reason now-- except they make him. So he talks. You listen. This is how falling for a girl with an evil boyfriend cost him his life.

Out of the Blue is a great suspense/mystery novella. It's one of those books that grabs you right from the start and all good mystery books leaves you with more questions than answers. I have been a huge mystery fan since I was young - I gobbled up Trixie Beldon and Nancy Drew mysteries any chance I got. While this isn't a sleuthing-type mystery though - I guess it's more of a suspense novella. Either way - I LOVED it.

Walker is new to Lainly and due to some unfortunate and unexpected circumstances he finds himself in need of a place to live. Enter J (Jordan) Rivers who just so happens to need a roommate. Problem solved, right? More problem just beginning! The thing about reviewing mystery and suspense is that you don't want to spoil it for the reader. So, all I'm going to say is that it's a great book with all the right elements and the perfect balance of questions and answers so that you're left in need of the next book, yet satisfied with the portion you've been given.

Great job Kelly Martin - you've woven a wonderful tale.

FYI ~ This is a clean read with only mild language and no intimate scenes.2 s Melanie748 26

This is a great, quick read! It's only 83 pages, but it kept my attention the entire time. This is told from a male POV. Walker Scott met Jordan Rivers at the university book store when she put up an ad for a roommate and he was looking for somewhere to live. She let him know right off that she had a boyfriend, Oliver Weston, and when he asked her if he would mind if she was living with another guy, she informed him that they wouldn't exactly be "living together." Walker was intrigued so agreed to check the place out. It wasn't quite what he was expecting but was a great deal for him. He promises Mrs. Bainbridge he'll look after Jordan, not realizing how much that promise will change his life.

I loved meeting the sheriff and Jordan's brother, Joshua Rivers, Mrs. Bainbridge, and even Oliver. There's a mystery in this college town and we get hints from Walker that whatever's coming is bad and he wishes he could change the outcome. I have my suspicions but I hope I'm wrong and I'm certainly intrigued enough to keep reading. The second part will be coming out in a few weeks and I'm excited to read it!

I received a copy of this book to review. My opinion is 100% my own.

OW another awesome read by Kelly Martin

Every book I have read by her has managed to hook me and reel me in, Out Of the Blue was no exception.
The story is told from the perspective of Walker Scott who is just arrived in Linley, Tennessee from Oklahoma for University in need of
a place to rent this set him on a path will change his life because Jordan Rivers needs a roommate. From their first meeting
sparks fly but Jordan has a boyfriend Oliver Weston son of the Most Powerful man in town. Walker knew Oliver was
bad news the moment he met him and the every talent Kelly Martin leaves trails of bread curbs through the story as to
what that might be. You know something has happen to Jordan though these breadcrumbs but you don’t know what it is.
Be warned this isn’t a single book event and you will be hungry for the next part.
The moment I read the last word - I was no!!! Must have more of this story.
Sadly I will just have to wait patiently for the next book in this Series.

When I first started Out of the Blue I was kind of shocked because it is written from a male perspective and he is recounting memories for the reader. The idea really grabbed me because the majority of books are not written this way. Walker is the narrator and he tells us about how he met J and the mystery of the small town where they are attending college. This novella is magnetic and the question of "whodunnit" was so powerful that I found myself eagerly reading each page! If I had read Sherlock Holmes books, I would imagine that this may be something them with a modern twist. Even though she was a minor character, I loved Mrs. Bainbridge and also the mystery of J's brother Joshua. Seriously the small town and the mystery charmed me from page one! Out of the Blue was hit for me! The only downfall is that the rest of the story will be found in books two and three! So hurry up and write Martin, write!!! I received a copy of this book for free, this is my honest review.1 CARLA991 41

This book is written differently than others that I have read. It is written from an interview POV. With the main character telling about the beginning while throwing in snippets about the middle and the end. It was extremely interesting and highly original.

At this point I couldn't really tell you exactly what the book is about. Which is what I suspect the author wanted. It is definetely a mystery/thriller. With a dash of attraction thrown in.

Walter Scott needed a place to stay, Jordan Rivers had a place to stay but her brother didn't want her to live alone. So they come to a compromise.
Poor Walter is smitten with J's character from the beginning, but J has a boyfriend who is possesive and Walter doesn't him.
When Walter gets a phone call from J about a murder at her boyfriends house, he rushes over to investigate.

You will really need to read the book to find out what happens. 1 AngelaAuthor 18 books51

You get the feeling where this is going to lead but you never know, it is reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes, we all know how their can be amazing twists there.
the characters are amazing. Jordan (J) is the kind of girl that you would want to be friends with, she is dating a jerk of a guy Oliver, has an amazing older brother, Joshua who happens to be the town sheriff. Her parents died when she was younger.
Mrs. Bainbridge is an amazing lady, she is the landlord. She is funny and quirky, I loved her.
Finally, Walker Scott the good ol' boy from Oklahoma who moved to this small town to go to college. He is the one telling the story.
You will fall in love with these characters, except Oliver you learn to hate him right away.
Now, I wait for book 2 and book 3.1 Pauline CreedenAuthor 65 books583

4.5 Stars. A solid start to a serial novella series. The parallels to Sherlock Holmes have me wondering what direction the series will take. As a New Adult series, there are some steamy but clean moments that will please the lovers of the romance genre, with enough hints at mystery to keep the pages turning.1 Neena Christianson Martin1,185 10

Out of the Blue will keep you guessing, from beginning to end. It will definitely make you buy the following stories in the series. You are going to meet people you love, some you love to hate, and some that just have you a bit confused, but you will never be bored. I rate this as a 5 star read.mystery romance1 Jamie Leigh6,416 29

wow. what an amazing beginning to this story. I'm so glad I didn't start this series until all the books are out. That way I can zip right through them. J is a freshman in college. Walker is new to town and ends up being housemates with J. 1 Laura3,203 346

4.5 stars for this beginning of a fascinating crime story. You did say you wanted to read it from the beginning, right? As you read, even when you begin to know what you know, you really can't be sure you know it, until the end when you will second guess what it is that you know.
There is a serious cliffhanger at the end which makes you wish to jump IMMEDIATELY into the next book.

Walker Scott is new in town, beginning college and looking for a place to live.
Fate steps in, or rather bulldozes him from the very beginning.

There has typically been very little crime in this small Tennessee town, no need for a large police force. Recently however murder has reared its ugly head. Is it the work of one deranged individual?

From the beginning you feel as if Walker is telling the story to someone in particular.
He could be telling it just to you. It is not until the very end, or is it the middle,
that we get more of a sense of to whom Walker is relating these details.

My advice is to by both books at the same time. You won't want to wait to continue. Marcia54 3
