There are loads of characters introduced at the start of this story to get to grips with as Francis, sometime after his notoriety in solving three previous murder cases has died down, is for the first time employed as a professional sleuth. He gets a call from Nick Fourie, the manager for megastar Jonni K who is touring Europe with his backing band. Nick needs a detective behind the scenes as there have been two unsettling events so far on the tour, the apparent drugs overdose of a supposedly clean crew member and then an incident where Jonni was pushed off the stage by a knife wielding maniac. Within hours Francis is thrust into a world completely alien to him and is touring with a rock band! As Jonni prances around the stage in his outlandish costumes mesmerizing the crowd, Francis tries to elicit all the secrets and gossip behind the scenes. But then disaster strikes again, this time in Rotterdam, when guitarist Vanko is nearly electrocuted on stage. An accident or sabotage? And if all these strange occurrences are linked, who is the real target? For once Francis finds it hard to get anyone to open up to him and fears there may be more attacks before anyone helps him reach the truth behind this ill-fated tour.
There are plenty of colourful characters amongst the band and crew, excellently portrayed and easy to picture. Francis, with his vast knowledge of crime fiction and friendly empathetic manner, is perfectly placed to dig out their secrets and work out just who might be the killer, even when everyone seems to have something to hide. With a very able sleuth and plenty of twists and red herrings, this is another smashing murder mystery in a great series and I do hope there will be more stories to come.

Another little gem from the mind of Mark McCrum featuring published writer and amateur detective Francis Meadowes. I have absolutely loved this series and all of the crazy situations Francis ends up involved in.
Murder on Tour starts with Francis getting a phone call to help with uncovering some strange incidents on a European Tour with Johnni K, the next big thing in music. Johnni’s friend and crew member, Ricky, has seemingly overdosed, despite apparently becoming sober. Some think it was a tragic accident, while others are unsure. But when Johnni is attacked on stage, his managers decide that they want someone on tour investigating in case there’s something more sinister at play.
The book really kept me guessing at who could have been at the centre of it all right until the very end, as seems to be usual with this series. Even when I did have suspicions, they were looking at the wrong person entirely. The twists and turns just kept coming and made me want to carry on reading to get to the bottom of what was happening.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series, and I am hoping that this isn’t the end of Francis Meadowes! Thank you to Mark McCrum and Bloodhound books for allowing me to read this book. CeeCee82 3

This is the 4th book in the Francis Meadowes series, all of which I've read and reviewed. Unfortunately, this one wasn't a patch on the previous novels, especially the first one Murder at the Festival, which had laugh out moments and great characters.
Francis himself is a very nondescript, bland sort of person with zero personality. I have to keep reminding myself he's supposedly a successful author of crime novels with Sherlock-type powers of deduction.
Halfway through this particular novel and nothing was happening. I felt I was reading the same scenario over and over again. A long list of characters, including band members, crew members, management, and catering, had me baffled at times. And a list of ageing rock and rollers from long forgotten bands, none of whom actually appear in person.
The interminably slow interview technique of Francis was yawn-nducing and frankly boring.
I read to the end, which confirmed my suspicions regarding the perpetrator.
Sorry, but I think this is the end for Francis and I.
Thanks to Bloodhound Books for the ARC. Mary Ryan909 20

I am enjoying this series and this latest one has Francis on tour with a band across Europe after being hired to look into the death of a crew member. When the singer is pushed off stage and another band member is shocked during a performance, it seems that someone has decided to punish the band for some reason.

I enjoyed the details of the rock and roll lifestyle and also the seemingly impossibility of Francis' task when none of the crew or band members are quite forthcoming as to the relationships and histories between them. The murder of another member brings things up a notch and I must admit I was totally baffled as to what was going on. The ultimate reveal was a surprise but I enjoyed the way things were tied up in the end. I look forward to seeing where Francis finds himself next.

My thanks to Joffe Books for a copy of this and this is my honest review.

Murder On Tour by Mark McCrum.
Book 4 of 4: Francis Meadowes.

I really enjoyed this book. Shame its the last book. I do love Francis. Great story and plot. Thought I knew who it was but I was so wrong. Couldn't put it down. Love the writing style. 4*. K276 8

Francis Meadowes is back this time he has been hired to investigate a couple of incidents on the latest Jonni K tour. First one of the crew overdosed on the bus, even though he was meant to have been clean. Then a knife wielding fan somehow rushed Jonni on stage, knocking him right off the stage.
Francis joins the tour as a journalist, however, most of the band work out who he really is and why he is there.
At first it seems that the incidents were just that, unrelated incidents, but then the guitarist is nearly electrocuted on stage.
With a few twists and turns the book keeps you guessing right to the end. A well written book, fast paced with a good storyline. Caroline335 5

I wanted to this a lot more than I did.
I really enjoyed the first book in the series, and was excited to read this one, but for me something was lacking in terms of liking or caring about many of the characters. I also felt there were too many references to other books in the series which made me feel I was missing something - perhaps this is my fault for not having read all of the series!
I actually enjoyed the last few chapters much more than the rest of the book, I felt the pace was better. Anna15

This is the second Francis Meadowes book that I have read and I wasn’t disappointed! I d the concept of the story; Francis joining the band on tour to solve a murder, and the rich array of characters that were introduced. I enjoy stories which aren’t predictable and this one largely kept me guessing until the end. I did feel that the pace was slow at times and I would have d to see some of the characters such as Flo & Seamus used more. Overall this was an easy & enjoyable read, and I look forward to reading more in the series. Bobbi Wagner4,347 43

This is an author that I never hesitate to pick up. I have enjoyed reading his books from the first one I picked up. They are creative, well written and hard to put down. I enjoy how the characters pull me into the story from the start. They are relateable and truely add so much to the story's entertainment value. This is a fast paced, hard to put down story that you don't want to miss. The plot has great growth and a mystery that you won't see coming. I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it. This is the first book I have read by this author apparently its the 4th book in the Francis meadows series.
Francis is on tour with a band after being hired to look into the death of a crew member that was murdered not a lot was happening in the first half of the book there was lots of characters which i found confusing.
The ultimate reveal was a surprise which was good. Jane Welchman84 2

I have read the books in this series and this is just as good as the rest. You don't need to have read the past books and can be read as a standalone. It's not quite cosy, but not a dark thriller. This author keeps you guessing until the very end and with twists. A very enjoyable read.
I was given an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion. Nanci145 3

A “lighthearted” mystery with a load of characters that helps delivery many twists and turns that makes for an entertaining and enjoyable read that is fast-paced and fun!! An interesting premise and setting for a mystery to unfold!! Have found this author to be a definite read and recommend and can’t wait for the next one! Emma Bevan45

I enjoyed this overall, if you want a view of what a music group on tour may be , then it's interesting. I found there was a lot of narrative about the people and the murder part of the story itself slower, it's pleasure as a read was the detail of the tour. Janet368 9
