Interesting story, especially for the wordbuilding into the ins-and-outs of the Athenate world and lifestyle. These novellas will apparently join up with the 'Bite Back' series at some point. Amanda is not anything the bad-ass Amber, but she's an intriguing character in her own way.freebie4 s Linda1,421

This novella is a continuation of the story begun in The Biting Cold. Amanda Lloyd has regained her memory of being Athanate and is ready to settle back into life with her kin, Scott. But after her court testimony has helped convict a sociopath, she discovers he has put out a contract on her life and she must flee.

Despite the urgency of her flight, the story starts out a bit slowly and unevenly, with Amanda recalling for herself and her readers much of the background events. It was helpful but not exciting, even as she fled through a winter storm. The story actually picks up in the latter half, introducing some interesting new characters and strongly tying this storyline to the main one, with Amanda poised to meet Amber Farrell in the next Bite Back book.

Oh man, I really d this novella. I can’t wait to see what happens when they meet up with Amber. I totally love her Coyote and Raven—such a bonus.
On an unrelated note this was an interesting peek into politics from the non-Denver side for certain. It was also a nice peek into the Adepts and how they work.

Great side story from bite back

Great addition to Bite Back series

The backstory for Amanda Lloyd and her House kin, old and new, really helps flesh out the Bite Back series. She’s a very intriguing woman and complex character. And Kane and Flint are delectable. Frosting on the cupcake if you will. I can’t wait to read more in this series.1 Jeanny1,940 161

Great characters with realistic situations and lots of passion.
