Claire and Walker were a good read but I never really felt they were truly together. I guess the fact that she was a struggling, widowed mom made her a very busy woman so the typical dating and getting to know each other was not as intense as I would have d. Her resistance to any help was frustrating as well. Larkin was precious.
I'm loving Lindell and can't wait for Mac and Riley!!1 Barbara2,333 50

I simply adored this small town romance series. Lindell is a quaint town that has an old time vibe to it even though it’s a college town. Most of the locals have lived there all their lives and just about know everyone. That can be a good thing but it also means just about everyone knows your business. If you’ve read the first two books you’ve met Walker, the owner of the town’s bar, The Hairy Frog, and Claire. Claire came to town 4 years ago, a widower of one of the local’s sons (Hux who was killed in the service) and also very pregnant. Not looking for a handout, but hoping she’ll find a little compassion from Hux’s parents). Fast forward, Claire now has a precious 4 year old daughter, Larkin. When Hux was killed Claire found herself in a world of trouble and she’s now struggling to keep ends met. She needs a 2nd job. The Hairy Frog needs help but for some reason Walker won’t hire her. So she just shows up and starts working despite him. Turns out she’s a natural at the job and a great asset but for Walker she’s a distraction he can’t afford. The two but heads at every turn. Their banter is hilarious at times and crazy wicked at others. Their attraction is electric but neither will act on it for their own reasons.

This romantic book is full of fun, sass and surprises, with local townsfolk who mean well but butt in every chance they get. Larkin will steal your heart and Claire and Walker will have you smiling and swooning. I can’t recommend this book enough. I also can’t wait to see what’s next for the town of Lindell.

2 Thumbs Up and 5+ Stars Claudia, Cmarie9271,446 23

I am overjoyed to be reunited with my favorite characters in this delightful town. For now, our focus is on spending time with Walker, a lifelong resident, who owns the Hairy Frog, and Claire.

Claire is a hardworking single mother, juggling two jobs and striving to be grateful for the kindness Lindell displays towards her, while trying to maintain some privacy, something that small town living does not always allow!

This isn’t the recommended starting point for the Lindell series if you haven’t read any of the other books, unless you’re comfortable with spoilers.

In Lindell, the intricate family dynamics and emotions following her husband’s death made Claire’s journey all the more interesting. I found it effortless to connect with the story, and it held my attention throughout.

It was incredibly easy to feel a deep connection with these characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and I highly recommend it. I find the interactions between the couples (from previous books) to be fun, and I adore how they rally behind this couple. Walker does his best to adhere to Claire’s rules, but (as any good book boyfriend should) he cannot help but make her life easier. When she finally admits - and gives in to the sizzling connection they have - oooh! Very steamy! I loved how he connected with Larkin and considered her needs. *swoon*

I strongly encourage you to read this in the right order. Get acquainted with the other works of this talented author since this town is interconnected with her other series. Trust me, this is worth your time. I can’t wait for the next part of this series to be released!2024-arcs 2024-gr-tracker 2024-reads ...more Teresa Williams386 4

With a Grain of Salt (Lindell Book 3) by Marie James is a profoundly emotional small-town romance that follows the journey of Walker, a veteran and owner of the bar Hairy Frog, and Claire, an army widow and mom to Larkin, her 3-year-old. Claire relocated to Lindell so that her little girl could be close to her husband's family since she was alone. Claire works at a veterinarian's office during the day and a second job at night as a waitress at the Hairy Frog to make ends meet, even when Walker doesn't want to hire her. Claire's husband's parents show genuine affection for Larkin and babysit her often. Conversely, her mother-in-law's utter contempt for Claire is evident in every encounter when she drops off and picks up Larkin at their home so she can work. Walker and Claire have a contentious push-pull attraction full of snark, which combusts into flames at the bar one night after closing. Claire wants to say their time together was only a "one-time" deal, but she resists spending time with Walker. Claire finds herself drowning in debt that belonged to her deceased husband and can't seem to get ahead. Walker is a fixer and wants to help Claire in any way he can, even if he has to do it secretly behind the scenes. Marie James’ book, With A Grain of Salt, is a fun, small-town romance that follows Walker and Claire as they fall in love despite obstacles and find their HEA without cheating. Anna27

So many questions about this book...SO MANY!!!
Why does such a great guy Walker even s someone Claire? She is constantly angry. She seriously needs anger management therapy. Why is she so mean to him? After the whole Xmas tree scene I gave up on trying to the female character in this otherwise fantastically written book by my beloved author. But SADLY there is absolutely nothing I about Claire. The only good quality about Claire is...she is a great waitress, I guess...
I know she is meant to come accross as independent, strong, super sassy while struggling big time, but instead... she is just...rude, ungrateful to practically everyone (why would the lovely ppl of Lindell even try to help someone so exasperatingly unkind and annoyed in every situation?!), mean to Walker all the time, outright irritating with her weird outbursts, complaining about everyone and everything...I was so looking forward to loving this book as a secret crush/workplace crush trope is my absolute favourite (and Walker is perfection as a man with a secret crush on his employee!!!) but I truly cannot find any redeeming personality traits in Claire...
I'm looking forward to the next book. I hope the grumpy mechanic will get his happy ending!!! Elizabeth460 4

Walker kept me reading into the night.

I loved this book! Walker and Claire captivated me and kept me reading well into the night. Their connection, push-pull attraction, and verbal sparring were excellent. I loved how Walker brought out parts of Claire she doesn’t show anyone. Walker’s lack of child-rearing experience made the exchanges between him and Larkin (Claire’s 3 yo daughter) even sweeter. I enjoyed Claire’s sass and determination to succeed, even if she felt she had no one to lean on. Being a single mother and trying to survive the crushing debt her dead husband left her she’s so much stronger than she realized. Not having anyone to lean on in life made it harder yet more satisfying to see her open up to her friends. She tries to keep her problems to herself, but I love how the folks in this small town won’t allow that. Walker is honorable, loving, and incredibly swoon-worthy. He understands and sees Claire in a way no one else has. I love that he is present for her and steadfast. This story has plenty of laughs, lighthearted moments, drama, and lots of found family. I am thoroughly invested in Lindell, TX and can’t wait to see what happens next! Sharon1,783 21

I devoured this one! I love this series, and loved this story! Walker and Claire will steal your hearts! 5 stars for this one!
Claire has been struggling to stay afloat, raising her daughter in this small town of Lindell Texas, where everyone is trying to help out the widowed single mother, except for her dead husbands mother. While she does help her by watching her so Claire can work, she judges everything she does.
Walker noticed her the minute she came to town, but she lost her husband in the military, since he's a veteran as well, its hands off. But when she starts working at his bar, it's getting hard for him to stay away, and that stubborn streak she has is such a turn on for him!
Claires been through the ringer, and she's afraid to trust and let anyone in, can Walker convince her he's here to stay, and he will never hurt her or let her go? Read along and find out!
Loved this one, as well as this series! Marie is writing some amazing stories here! Don't miss out on them! Mimirureviewbooks1,884

(5 Stars)

This is the third of the series and I do suggest reading the previous two, just so you know the previous happenings and all the characters. We have gotten a little interaction between Claire and Walker, and it's been strained and with some attitude. She needs a job and Walker is refusing to hire her at the bar, Claire doesn't take no for an answer and just starts to work without his ok. What she doesn't know is that Walker was trying to keep Claire at a distance. Walker wants Claire but knows that she is off limits given her circumstances. What happens when he finds out what he thought is all wrong? That Claire is not off limits he thought?

I am in love with this series! We are getting some good drama, some laughs, a few cute moments and naughty bits that were super hot. Claire and Walker get 5 stars. Kylee2,748 51

With a Grain of Salt is a highly emotional love story that will grip your heart and soul hard. Claire is a single Mum battling to keep her head above water and torn between pride and acceptance. Walker has watched Claire from afar, falling harder and harder for her and until an unspoken rule can no longer hold him back. The fire that Walker brought to the surface in Claire was mesmerizing to watch and see this young woman have the light brought back into her eyes. Walker was such a sweetheart when it came to Claire and Larkin and the things he did for them even knowing that this could be the time she pushes him away for good. A story that takes you on an emotional roller coaster of love, friendships and hope. Amanda339 2

There’s something about the way Marie James writes her characters and stories that immediately has me connected and invested in them. It was no different with Walker and Claire and Claire’s daughter, Larkin. To get the full effect of the small town and these characters you should definitely read the Lindell books in order. I loved the interactions between Claire and Walker but I loved the scenes with Walker and Larkin. I am a sucker for a single parent romance and seeing how the non-parent MC interacts with the child(ren). This was a cute, fun read with amazing chemistry and sweet family moments. I can’t wait for what comes next in Lindell. Alison Spear262

I love the determination for him to stay away from her, and the strong, persistent female character that shows up anyway to work, despite not being hired
I enjoy the thought process of the characters. Clair internally wishing Walker would walk around shirtless all the time and that brining her to the realization she’d be jealous.
A lot of the things Clair says about being a mom are so very very accurate- there was a comment about her always being tired (although worded much more eloquently) and a part about people without kids saying “their kid would never have a tantrum in public” as if a child is a robot- the author just nails motherhood and the struggles, and I really appreciate that. Quick happy read.
Claire and Walker are so cute together, she is being extremely independent and doesn't want all of Lindell to know her business because its not something that she is necessarily proud of but you can't always control that. Walker on the other hand has grown up around this area and knows what is going on and tries very hard to stick to his own mind UNTIL he can't. It's better to ask for forgiveness right?
After crossing a line he will need to do some massive begging for forgiveness but he can do it right? He will keep after it until she does, using any means necessary.
Happy the recurring characters are having lots of opportunity to take part in the story. Leslie Tabor6 1 follower

This book was such a good read! If flowed well and was easy to follow the characters. Walker s to think he is a tough guy and follow the rules. He breaks them when it comes Claire. I just love how she doesn’t take no for answer from him. She loved to push his buttons and it was great to read that about her. These to have a pull towards each other, but have some obstacles to overcome to get there. This was a great read!!! With a Grain of Salt takes us back to small town Lindell to get another HEA for one of its hometown folks. This time native son, and owner of The Hairy Frog Walker must fight his feelings for the off-limits, widow, Claire. After her husband, Lindell's own Huxley Kennedy dies, she comes back to his hometown hoping to find a support system to help raise her daughter but didn't count on the surly bar owner. Truly enjoy, feel good reading.
This is the third in the Lindell series and can be read as a standalone but as usual Marie James is bringing back her previous characters to tell the tales of the town. And I’m glad I started this series from the beginning.

Whoa! This was one h3ll of a book. How do you convince a single mother with way too much on her plate to give you a chance?

Claire has way too much going on in her life with having a three year old to raise, a huge debt that wasn't hers to pay, and a hateful mother-in-law who thinks she is trash.

Walker noticed Claire the day she showed up in town and has also noticed how she struggles with too much pride to ask for help.

I binged this book. Now, I need to know what the heck is going on with Mac and Riley. Inquiring minds want to know.1 Dana Rodney23 1 follower

Marie James has done it again! I love her Cerberus series, and the Lindell spin off is such a refreshing read. I loved the chemistry between Claire and Walker from the very beginning. I love how Claire began to come into her own and really stand up for herself with everyone around her through the story. The storyline was so sweet and the spicy scenes were fire! I can’t wait for the next story in this world!.

Claire is new to the small town of Lindell, Texas. She is an Army widow and a single mother of a three year old precious girl. She decides to move to Lindell after the death of her husband. Walker was born and raised in Lindell. He is a veteran and owner of The Hairy Frog, the only bar in Lindell. Walker knows there is a code about darting an Army widow but when Claire gets a job at his bar all bets are off. Claire wants to fight her feelings toward Walker but he just keeps after her. Great story and a great one day read! Danielle Marlowe1,943 8

With a Grain of Salt was packed with many emotions, the story was written, Maris James did a wonderful job on it. Walker and Claire were strong characters, fighters, they were good for each other, their connection was strong. They may have had a few bumps along the way but they were perfect together, drawn together, sexy chemistry. I enjoyed this story, it was great.
Thank you, Marie James, Great work :) Cathy Jackson386 1 follower

Tropes:
Single mom

Small town
Former Military
Widow
Second Chance
Oh my gosh, Marie James’ books get better and better as the story goes on!

Claire and Walker are perfect!
A widowed spouse is so off limits but Walker sees Claire and the determination she has in surviving life and raising her three-year-old on her own.
Once I began this one, I didn’t stop until the end!

There is very little worse than being an outsider in a group, well maybe moving to the small hometown of your recently deceased husband with/carrying his (unborn) child and thus living under a microscope and seemingly an umbrella of pity.
With A Grain of Salt is a story of homecoming, family adjustments and allowing happiness in when life seems against you. Thoroughly enjoyed this love story and all hurdles overcome for it to occur. AprilAuthor 8 books67

FIVE FULL STARS AND MORE!
I could relate to Claire; single mom, financial struggles, and pride, with a judgmental, hard to deal with mother-in-law. Walker was a man I could appreciate. The story line was good. Several laughs but some sad or irritating moments as well. I d the characters (most). I truly d Clair and Walker's story. A great story in the Lindell Series. Tamara Fruge162

The amazingness that is this series continues! Marie James sure knows how to make you fall in love with her characters. I absolutely loved this story. Seeing mom guilt play out for a single parent just moved me to tears. I totally feel for both characters! The loss and the struggle was so moving. I can’t wait for more from the people of Lindell. I just am absolutely obsessed with this series!!! Ashley Crimmins317 1 follower

Can we just move to Lindell already?! I love this town! Chase and Claire are such an incredible story complete with their own baggage. I loved watching Claire gain a backbone and stand up for herself with the unwavering support of Chase. Chase is such a teddy bear when it comes to Claire and her daughter. It’s heartwarming. I wish I could reread this story for the first time again! Amanda954 7

Loved this story and the characters. Walker has to be one of my favorite characters was not a fan of Nora, she just rubbed me the wrong way. I really how Marie James is able to write different genres. Her stories just flow looking forward to what's coming next.

I d Claire. She knew she was in trouble but didn't let that destroy her relationship with her daughter. Everything she did, swallowing her pride, accepting charity, and turning the other cheek, she did for the happiness of her precious. Walker was the one thing she did for herself. And even then, he kept Larkin's happiness at the forefront of his attention.
