A Superb Farewell to Jack

I have to say I'm really gutted that the author has finally brought his Windrush saga to an end. I've loved every one of his Windrush books, in fact Jack Windrush has become one of my all time favourite fictional characters, perhaps because he and I share a cultural background. He could have been me and vice-versa. In this final outing for our hero, Major Jack Windrush, 'Fighting Jack' is once again in Afghanistan where as always, the different tribes are in conflict with each other as well as with the British Army. I'm not going to give much away in this review as so much happens that to give anything away would really be a major spoiler. For those who me have read the previous books in the series, I will just say that we see Jack's brother and the Royal Malverns, his old friend Batoor and a host of characters that will bring back memories of Jack's previous escapades.
As always, there's plenty of action, death and destruction in and around the Khyber Pass and an eventual ending that was satisfying from Jack's perspective, but by God, I'm going to miss him. The final scene, sitting with his wife, Mary in his house in Gondabad actually brought a lump to my throat. A definite 5 star read, wish it could be more. John Nino214 2

Afghanistan is never changing

A book which could have been written today. A story of bravery treachery and accomplishment. Jack survives again and is rewarded with what was taken from him earlier. Where does he go next? Michael John4

Great Read

If you accuracy in historical fiction and a great read this series is for you. Compares favorably to Bernard Cornwell' Sharpe series. Steve100 1 follower
