Maggie never lets me down <3

This series is such a comfort one for me. I love them all in different ways and always look forward to the next.
Mateo is a manticore and head of security for his dragon boss. Eva is just trying to make ends meet and groom all the kitties in her spare time, when in barges a mountain of a man looking for her dead beat brother. Turns out, her brother stole a precious heirloom from said mountain mans dragon boss and he's tasked with getting it back.

The chemistry is *chefs kiss* and the possessive monster vibe is my faveeee.

Loved it. Can't wait for the next. cackling--a-witch dragons-wyverns fated-mates ...more2 s Nicole13

Such a fun read!!

I love this series and this may be my fave of the bunch!! The whole spy aspect intertwined with painful family relationships was balanced with a really cute relationship. 1 A79senlin152 3

In book 5 of the series, Maggie takes us back to Darlington to meet some new residents: Cat-loving Eva and manticore Mateo. Eva’s despicable brother Tony has stolen a priceless locket (or rather, half a locket) from the hoard of resident dragon Desmon. Desmon’s head of security Mateo, a manticore, has been charged with recovering said locket, which is why he’s banging down Eva’s door in the middle of the night. Finding that she’s in possession of neither the jewelry nor her brother’s location, Mateo kidnaps her.

Though initially prickly toward each other, the two soon find themselves working together to find the missing locket, especially once they discover why a powerful wizard is bankrolling the theft. Turns out, when combined with the locket’s other half, the resulting amulet would make the wizard almost invincible. And he already knows where the other half is. It belonged to Eva and Tony’s late mother and was left to Eva in her will but stolen by Tony. Tony is more than happy to turn over both halves of the locket for a fat stack of cash. It’s up to Mateo and Eva — helped by a cast of kooky characters — to stop the evil wizard’s plan, and to work up the courage to act on their mutual attraction.

Maggie writes the most lovable and hilarious characters. Here we have Prax, a recently freed incubus who’s still trying to get up to speed with this century; Sriracha, Eva’s adorable and feisty Persian kitty; Milly, an elf forced to serve the wizard, and a host of ones we’ve met before, wizard Seth, his demon partner Liam and dragon Desmon. (I’m only sorry there wasn’t a way to wedge in Chicken Nugget — that winged “cutie” always cracks me up.)

I also really loved Mateo and Eva, individually and together. Mateo’s vulnerability was endearing and Eva was hilarious (“I didn’t understand why my brain refused to be smart and STFU in situations these and instead insisted I go into mouthy b*tch mode.”). Together, they were steam and sweetness, from growly possessiveness and bedroom dominance to snack-buying and adorable grooming.

Any book Maggie writes is a 5-star affair, but don’t just take my word for it. You won’t regret it!.

Gleeful Goblin Review: I know this is probably the most minor, throw away detail but can I just say how much I love FMC's relationship with her cat?!?: "My cat Sriracha stood in front of the door, hissing and snarling. That was normal. I had named him Sriracha because he had a touch of spice for a Persian cat but was really quite mild when it came down to it. Kind of the hot sauce. As a hobbyist cat groomer, I’d encountered my share of super spicy kitties." The relationship between FMC and Sriri is totally adorable and made me smile every time they're in a scene together and especially in front of our MMC who's a tiny bit jealous of the affection FMC shows to her best 4 legged friend.

Eva is so much fun and has the exact sense of humor and style (she had me at leggings with subtle cats hùmping print) that makes me feel we would be fast friends. Matteo is a big gruff and grumbly cinnamon roll with heart of gold who's afraid of yet another rejection or having someone more "normal" be appealing to the object of his affection and makes me melt.

Once our MCs get to know each other, scorpion tails and all, this is such a heartwarming and earnest story that focuses on honesty and acceptance of self as well as of others. Eva and Matteo are absolutely darling together and seeing them work on solving the case that brought them together while getting to know each other and get REAL FRIENDLY is totally captivating. I couldn't be happier with this story and it's a wonderful addition to the Possessive Monsters series. 5/5 Stars.

Wow what a great book in this series and I’ve loved everyone but I think this one is my favorite because Matteo and Eve are just perfect together but also because of old friends turn up in this book to help out. Eve is a Cat Groomer and when her brother Tony shows up out of the blue it’s never good and when he is gone but what he now brings to her door is a boat load of trouble in the shape of a Manticore who is as sexy as hell who tells her that he wants the artifact that was stole from Desmon of Darlington by her brother Tony and she is being held until she can get the artifact back. Matteo is a Manticore who’s job it is to find and get back the artifact that was stole from Desmon and the trail leads him to a female who rocks his world but would she want a man him at all but anyway she happens to be the sister of the thief and demands she help get it back but there is a Ruthless Wizard that has already got half of it and has set his eyes on her for the other part. How will it all turn out in the end and do there burning desires lead them to a HEA and do the get the artifact back. Great book and a must read series.

Eva is happily living her life, working a job where she has the boss from hell but in her spare time she volunteers for a cat rescue washing and grooming cats that have been brought in. That is until her ne'er-do-well brother turns up out of the blue and brings a whole lot of trouble to her door. Mateo works for Desmon protecting parts of his hoard which are on display at the local museum. When Eva's brother steals something from the Museum Mateo comes knocking on Eva's door thinking she may have something to do with it. Only she is the last person who would have anything to do with her brother's scheme's and soon comes to regret not writing him off when her late parents did. I really enjoyed Eva & Mateo's relationship evolution and as for her cat, Sriracha, absolutely hilarious. Eva's snark whenever she is in dire straights is also really funny but what isn't is the danger she finds herself in. The story is brilliantly written and kept me thoroughly entertained the whole way through with a lot of humour, passion and a really sweet love story.

Eva was not expecting to find herself as the suspect in the disappearance of an artifact after helping her brother. Despite her protestations, Mateo is not convinced and keeps her close but all is not as it seems and Eva is in more danger than they thought possible. As Eva and Mateo get closer Mateo worries what Eva will think when she discovers that he is a Manticore, but when Eva becomes bait and is kidnapped Mateo and his friends will do whatever it takes to stop the Wizard who wants the power Eva and the artifact yield and rescue her. When Eva discovers an unexpected ally she knows that she will have to use everything she has to keep one step ahead of the Wizard and his plans. I loved this story and the fact that Eva was snarky and determined to fight back against all that was going on. Her connection with Mateo was electric and I loved their honesty with each other about who they are. A great read and I wish I could give it 10 stars.

- Possessive MMC
- Sassy FMC
- Family drama
- Dragon treasure

This book was so good! I adore this author and have been following this series with delight. This series is interconnected, but each book can be read as a standalone.

After Eva's brother takes a piece of treasure from Desmon, the Dragon of Darlington, he leads the security team straight to Eva so that she is the focus of their investigation. Now Eva is a prime suspect... Head of security, Mateo, brings Eva back to his office/house to keep an eye on her. He isn't convinced she isn't working with her brother. However, neither Mateo nor Eva expect the intense attraction they feel toward one another. Could Eva accept him in his true form?

Meanwhie, the hunt for the treasure continues. Eva's brother Tony shows his true colors..and they're not pretty. With a powerful wizard in possession of part of the treasure, can Mateo and Eva retrieve it?

Full of quirky characters and a fantastic Persian cat, I enjoyed this story immensely.

has anyone noticed a growing trend of casual s**ual assault in romance novels lately?

I’ve been getting a little concerned by the increase in intimate violence against FMCs in lighter subgenres. I understand that it is a topic that needs to be discussed. I also know that some authors choose to use it as a plot device. The thing that makes my stomach turn is how prevalent it is coming in books Maggie’s series.

Books in this sub genre are action packed, fast paced, HEA romances. They are at their core super delicious cotton candy. They’re not meant to handle issues this delicately. In fact, it’s impossible to handle this stuff delicately when authors throw them in quickly, dismiss them quickly, and treat it a Dios Ex Machina.

Usually when I come across a book that has content I disagree with I just put down the book and find a different one. However. This is the third book I’ve read this week that had a similar plot device. It’s unsettling to see assault become a poorly handle trope. There has to be a line in the sand, right? Carole1,119 12

Sassy MFC Eva gets caught up in her good for nothing brothers schemes when he steals from Dragon Desmon and Manticore MMC Mateo is sent to retrieve the item.
Poor Eva knows nothing about the theft only that her brother had shown up at her home in the middle of the night and was gone the next day. Mateo doesn’t believe her and takes Eva with him when not finding her brother in the home and giving Eva three days to produce the stolen item.
Things begin to heat up when the two decide to work together to solve the crime as does their attraction for each other.
I enjoyed this steamy Paranormal Romance with its magical adventure, action, mystery, humor, likable leads, and Eva’s don’t mess with me kitty Sriracha.
Manticore Madness is a really enjoyable read with good writing, nice world building and a supporting cast of quirky characters that helped bring the story to life.

A dragon’s treasure has been stolen! Right from under Mateo’s nose. So he’s not all that pleasant when he first meets Eva; who was dragged into this mess by her absolutely awful brother, Tony. Maggie Mayhem’s Possessive Monsters series just keeps getting better and better. This story has so much depth and character development. I love it! Many stories have flat one-dimensional characters with whom the reader cannot connect. But Eva is a strong and sassy woman who loves her cat and her unworthy brother. And we feel her pain. Mateo had so many hidden depths. An angry, hurt youngster, helped by a dragon. Now guarding his treasure and feeling ashamed and unworthy of love. Eva and Mateo were so great together, one of my fave couples in this world. And it was awesome to see more of Desmon and Carly and Seth. I’m very much looking forward to the next book in this series, it’s become one of my favourites. Avis435 2

This is another excellent story about monsters and finding their mates.
Eva is smart, beautiful and when under stress snarky. She is under a lot of stress throughout the story.
Mateo (perfect name for a manticore. ) has his hands full with finding a locket and then finding his mate thinking she is the thief. I love his nickname for her, little thief. She really was a thief, but not what you think it was. I love his possessive nature towards her.
Action from the first to last page. Spicy steam to the romance. An excellent HEA. I love that previous characters are involved in getting the locket back.
Excellent twists. Humor is just the right places.
I also learning about Mateo's childhood. His struggles and how they affected what he did .
Of course they had to deal with Eva's brother.
We learn how she dealt with her brother with others help.
Love this series. Monsters and all.

Eva’s brother Eric uses her to escape capture after stealing from a dragon. Mateo follows the trail to Eva demanding she return the stolen treasure. He took her to his home, hoping she would lead him to her brother. Eva and Mateo are amazing together, funny, snarky and eventually deliciously steamy romance beings.
