Sinopsis

A war with no winners. The time for retribution has come. Blood demands blood.

Stripped of the control her life depends on, Wynter once again finds herself face to face with the future she’s sacrificed so much to prevent. With a clock ticking down over her head, and the destruction she saw in her vision soon to become a reality, she must decide whether to run from the chaos or fight it. To take fate into her own hands or watch as the Heart, and everyone she loves, burns.
Trapped behind enemy lines, Wynter must accept the help of unexpected allies and embrace the role she’s destined to play, even if that means losing everything. She will need to battle her way through the capital—and through the symptoms of her advancing illness—to try to put an end to a war she feels responsible for before it’s too late.

But the greatest war is the one raging inside her, and with time running out, Wynter wonders if being the monster everyone believes her to be is such a bad thing, after all…

Or if it’s exactly what the world needs to save it.

I would give this book a 3.5 but cannot due to Goodreads beautiful star system. However!! I recently read the entire series once more in order to refresh my brain for this final book. I did thoroughly enjoy the read, I loved the characters, more specifically the side characters in comparison to wytner. However, I feel this was one long haul for the moment we all knew was going to happen. Since the first book the final scene is told to us, there is a sweet difference at the end which I enjoyed. I just wish that the visions and the future wasn’t an inevitable situation, it’s hard to see how none of anyone’s actions was able to change anything throughout the series. I did enjoy the read, loved the character development for most of the side characters! This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.Show full review Alisha9 2

*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This did not change or affect my opinion of this book in any way.*

Subject Zero is the much anticipated finale to the Project W.A.R. trilogy. It picks up right where Type-X left off, and immediately throws you right back into the action. You get so many answers, so many twists and turns, and so many feels--good, bad, ugly, and everything in between.

We get to see more of the State's rise to power, and what it cost people along the way. We get a glimpse at the larger picture, too, and how and why things ended up the way they did. Characters I previously thought were "good", ended up being just as power-hungry as the bad guys, and characters I thought were "bad" ended up pleasantly surprising me!

We continue to learn more about Wynter's disease as it takes a mental and physical toll on her throughout the book. My favourite thing about Wynter is that she doesn't shy away from harsh realities, and she doesn't give way to delusional hopes and dreams. She faces the realities of her disease head on, determined to do everything she can to leave the world a better place before her time is up.

While I still love the main trio--Wynter, Ezra, and Jenner--Quinn quickly became one of my favourite characters in this book! The banter between him and Jenner is so snarky and comical, and he's just so sassy, while remaining true to himself and steadfast in his beliefs.

The best part about this book, and this series in general, is that it reminds us that nothing is ever black and white--everything has a grey area, and it's how you deal with that grey area that determines who you really are in the grand scheme of things. The characters are doing what they believe is best and right, but they don't shy away from the hard choices that they need to make along the way. The villain, (I genuinely loathe you, Dr. Richter) truly believes in what he's doing, and will see his research completed, despite what it costs anyone else along the way. He's one of those characters who simply takes joy in watching the world burn.

Subject Zero is an explosive finale to a heart-wrenching series about love, loss, sacrifice, and the lengths people will go to protect the things they love. It's the conclusion we've been waiting for, but could never have been ready for.
