Owners & Dolls - M. A. Innes

Hard to categorise this one. Again, the cover piqued my interest.

Emerson Davis is a Male Model at “Leashes & Lace”. His boss Roman and his boyfriend Eli have been asked to find a particular type of model for a
Clothes Designer and Photographer, Luca.

Luca designs garments for a particular market, corsets and costumes for men dressing up for their partners/Daddies/Littles/Subs. Emerson is chosen for the job of modelling these outfits for display in magazines and online.

Luca is a bit older than Emerson and at some time in the past he was a Dom. Meeting Emerson and becoming attracted to his flirtatious and sexy ways his Dom characteristics and BDSM interests come to the surface again.

Emerson can’t get enough of Don’s attention and goes to work on making him his Sub.

There are other side characters here who are Emerson’s friends all with different labels in the Dom/Sub world. I’ve read a couple of D/S stories before in a Collars and Cuffs series but this one was different.

I didn’t warm to the “pretence” of the whole set up so I didn’t have an emotional attachment for the MC’s. I did Emerson’s character best.

If you game playing and dressing up you’ll this one by M.A. Innes.

I honestly have no idea what to rate this book. I’ve never been more genuinely confused reading a book as when I read this.
Emerson was meant to be the sub but overall seemed to project more dom traits than Luca. He was also a clown born in a circus , a banker, worked as a bdsm model and knew a bunch of criminals?????
Lucas only character traits were working too much and forgetting to eat.
There was absolutely no progression with either character and most scenes happened in the same setting.
All the sex scenes were kinda the same massive overuse of owner and pretty one not much change to the vocabulary or phrases used. This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.Show full review1 Teamama225

The cover's homage to Tom of Finland is responsible for one of the 3 stars I gave the book.

This is a spin-off from the author's Leashes & Lace universe (under the name Shaw Montgomery.) That series is cartoony, over-the-top sex-positive silliness. I've enjoyed several of those titles.

I really wanted to this book, but it didn't come together for me. The H/H were charming, underdeveloped sketches.

The cameos by characters from the Leashes & Lace were odd. I found the "sleepovers" confusing, even though I have read most of the L&L books.

If you're a die-hard L&L fan, you'll probably(?) enjoy it. age-difference angst-low did-not-live-up-to-expectations ...more1 Jamie Lee Zonneveld1,467 47

Owners & Dolls by M.A. Innes is the story of Emerson and Luca. We got a little peak of them in the Our Love series and thankfully M.A. Innes wrote their story. I loved their story. It was sweet, sexy, fun, full of feels and very well written.1 Xavi711 Read

I'm not giving this book a rating, because I didn't really enjoy it, but I also don't want bring down the rating of something about a kink you don't really see written about, except if it were really offensive or something, which this one wasn't. I just did not connect to the romance or the characters and was rather bored for most of it. However, I did reading about the kinks in here. Not because I found them particularly sexy myself (which I think was a mixture of them not being something I'm personally into, me not being attached to the characters or their connection, and also the writing style just not feeling very sexy), but I always seeing some less represented kinks in books, so I'm happy this story exists for that reason alone.

I actually was pretty into this at first, because it was so interesting to read about Emerson's work and I wish it had been much more of the focus of the book than it was. I wish this book had mostly been about the photoshoot Luca and Emerson were doing, and that they would have slowly fallen for each other over doing those erotic things for work, and then eventually wanting to do them outside of that in an actual relationship. Instead we got Emerson immediately deciding they would be together, there never really were any stakes, and I just wasn't able to believe there was anything between those two yet when Emerson was already going on about how they were perfect for each other. Emerson's inner monologue was pretty exhausting to read in general with how he was constantly going on about how good of a doll he was and how great his owner was, it was just so repetitive. I also could have done with a little more angst. While in theory a very sweet low-angst story sounds nice to me, this one was so much lacking in angst that it became pretty boring to me.

Wow....this is my favorite book by M.A. Innes in a very long time. Maybe ever. I really adored Emerson and Luca. The relationship that these two developed was unique, scorching hot, possessive, and sweet. I love how Emerson took one look at Luca, wanted him to be his "Owner", and did everything that he could to make that happen. It was so stinkin' cute how Luca was often befuddled by Emerson. He knew what he wanted, but he wanted to make sure that Emerson felt the same.

The discussions that they had about boundaries and desires was so interesting. Emerson often fluctuates between feeling more masculine and feminine and the discussion about appropriate dirty words was fascinating. It made me giggle when Emerson would often drop facts about his life into conversation convinced that he had already told Luca all about it. It would add to Luca's cute confusion and just gave glimpses into Emerson's personality. Plus, the dollification kink was perfect.

I actually really enjoyed the limited interactions with the other individuals of L&L. It really put the focus on Luca and Emerson's developing relationship. I am very, very thankful that M.A. Innes gave us the epilogue. I was looking for this scene since reading the Our Love trilogy. I wanted to see the slumber party from Luca and Emerson's perspective. It definitely was worth it.

I don't know if Innes is planning more books in the Owners & Dolls series though the subtitle of "Luca and Emerson" gives me hope that we may see more owners/dolls in the near future. I am here for it!

First off M.A Innes is so good when it comes to crazy interesting characters, story lines and relationships. I always
wonder what her brain must look ....

Emerson, dear looord what an astonishingly good character. How can one man be cute, innocent, wicked, very honest and so totally lovable. Not forgetting attention whore, he lives to be the center of attention, which is why he is absolutely perfect for this next modelling role.

Did someone say a living doll ? Oh yes please!
He just has to wear lot's of pretty sparkly clothes, and don't forget the tiaras.
Emerson was made for it, especially once he sees the designer, I mean owner, maybe he could keep him.

Luca is an accomplished tailor for the stars, but no star would wear his extra special outfits.
His fantasy living doll just has to have the right look for his clothes, he wants innocence, with underlying naughtiness and the ability to stay still. The owner has to look after his doll in every aspect, all of the time, he has so many pretties to share with him/her wherever the fantasy takes them. One look at a photo of Emerson modeling lingerie for L&L has his heart beating...

I love, love the Leashes and Lace stories, there are so many incredibly entertaining people and situations. It's no wonder Eli and Emerson are best buds, they are both such divas. This story was very funny from start to end, I just could not imagine what Emerson would do/say to Luca and make him crazy again, he is so unique.
A definite favourite story for me, one I would be coming back to again and again. Guardian.angel54 851 33

Only M.A. Innes could introduce me to a rarely written about kink and make me fall in love! I absolutely love all her books and this one is no exception!
Emerson is a model that we meet in the Leashes and Lace series. He's an absolutely adorable bundle of energy and kink wrap up in a deceptively innocent package. Luca is a corsetier and he needs a model for some rather provocative photos of his line of male corsets/fashions. He never expected to get Emerson! Emerson who instantly sees through to what Luca really wants and embraces it wholeheartedly - a human doll! Someone to pose and photograph and dom.
I loved Emerson so much! He's feisty and sassy with just enough innocence and guile to get away with pushing Luca beyond what, even he, expected. Emerson is also wildly intelligent and that juxtaposition of sweet and smart is utterly brilliant. Luca is a big, lumberjack of a man, that people take one look at and pre-judge and I loved how Em just blows past all that and sees the man underneath. Of course, Emerson's group of other submissives from Leashes and Lace make an appearance, as do many of the doms. It's a fun, erotic ride and I loved every wild moment! I highly recommend reading the whole series, but it is perfectly ok to read this as a standalone. It still makes sense! 5/5* ??? ?????Author 2 books27

In “Owners and dolls” we follow Luca and Emerson's story. Luca is a fashion designer and Emerson a model. Luca needs a model for a photoshoot with a unique theme and Emerson is perfect for the job. When the two of them meet sparks fly and they develop feelings for each other pretty fast (although to be fair Luca does try to take things slowly)

It was a bit too insta love for my taste but honestly the characters were what made me enjoy this book. Emerson was hilarious, I loved the way his mind worked. There was a scene with a waiter that had me laughing out loud. The sleepover was funny too and the revelation about where Emerson grew up was surprising and funny.

There were a few cameos in the book, not many, but I think the book can still be read as a standalone.I personally loved it that we got to see more of Eli and Roman. I really them.

If you’re in the mood for a light and funny romance with no angst, just fun times, this book is for you.

I also want to mention that the characters have a D/s relationship and they explore dollification. I’m not familiar with dollification but I thought it was interesting. Mandy3,692 38

Emerson has the best job in the world working as a lingerie model at Leashes and Lace which has also given him wonderful friends - he just needs to find the Dom of his dreams to make his life complete. Then he was sent to corset designer Luca for a photoshoot. Luca has spent a lifetime building his business, funnelling his passion into his work and fighting against his own fantasies which makes him the loneliest Dom in the world until Emerson swept into his life and went right past all of his defences. Sparks and corsets fly when a wickedly sweet doll meets the Owner of his dreams, but even with his stubbornly sexy Owner dragging his feet every step of the way, Emerson knows fairy-tale romances this always have a happily ever after.

I loved this story which fit perfectly into the world of the Leashes & Lace book series. Emerson was such a fun guy who was even more special when he was Emmy. Luca was a great designer who seemed to be smitten from as soon as he saw Emerson. Easy to read, feel and understand. Contains MM mature content in a BDSM D/s relationship. We met a whole new cast of characters in the Our Love bundle that released last month. In those books, we are introduced to Emerson. His story runs congruently with the three books. He's Kevin and Eli had a love child. He's brilliantly manipulative and has his own brand of logic. He's a hoot. This book can work as a stand alone, but reading at least Eli from the Leashes and Lace series by Shaw will give you more back story and information on the three (Preston, Eli and Roman).

The story is enjoyable and you can tell that the author is dipping her reader's toes into dollification as a kink. The scenes are steamy and sweet. I just wish we had gotten more of their relationship and more back story for both of them. I know Shaw doesn't to say goodbye and we'll see them again. However, I think their story would have benefitted from a second book. Maybe we can get a short story with them in the future.

It's a sweet, low angst story with a new kink from Shaw. I do hope these two aren't the only ones in this series!

I received an ARC, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love fun, kinky stories, and MA Innes always delivers. I have never looked for a dollification romance, but I know she handles kinks and taboo stories well. I am not disappointed with this one.
First, Emerson is a new favorite character for me. He is as unpredictable as his friend Eli, and he makes this reader laugh out loud. I think it takes a big personality to help bring understanding to why someone would possibly be interested in becoming a human doll, and Emerson has that in spades. He is full of confidence, and he has his own ideas of how a relationship should work. Luca never stands a chance, completely unable to resist his new model, sub, and doll.
While this is a very sexy story, it is also as sweet and funny as all the books from this author. Even if you are in doubt about the subject, I recommend giving this one a try. Emerson and Luca have wonderful chemistry, and the other models and does who appear wrap them in support and love. I will be reading this one again. Denise Roberts574 10

Wow this book was more than what I expected
Brilliant love how the author describes her characters
Emerson is a wonderful person, so much to him. When he is offered a job to dress up, for a friend of Romans, he is a bit dubious until he meets Luca.
From day one he is determined to make Luca his Owner.
Luca makes designers clothing for Hollywood stars and needed a model to show them off. With Emerson's looks he was perfect. But Emerson learning to be a doll, Lucas living doll, was such fun to read.
Emerson was constantly pushing for more, but Luca wanted to take it slow and discuss everything. So he had to be a good doll. Loved how Emerson switched between male and female, depending on what Luca needed and how he was feeling.
The sleepovers were brilliant, drinking slushies and discussing their lives.
Would highly recommend as characters from L&L and Our Love are included.

Preston and Roman approach Emerson to take a side job, but they do a horrible job explaining what the job entails. Emerson asks to meet the photographer to get a feel for a connection and the details of what he would be doing. Luca has encountered an issue after an issue with finding a model for this job. When he sees pictures of Emerson, he knows he would be perfect for this job. Luca tries to be a professional, but Emerson makes it hard when he keeps claiming Luca.

Luca and Emerson were so cute together. Emerson knows how to play innocent well, and while Luca doesn't fall for the act, he still allows him to continue it. Emerson wants Luca and will do anything to prove it. It takes Luca a bit longer to realize that he wants Emerson, but the two pick up the pace quickly when he does. It was also fun to see the sleepover's from a different point of view.

This was my first exposure to dollification — I love reading new things and it did not disappoint. Emerson is a bit of a firecracker - probably one of the most outspoken subs MA Innes has written - which I really enjoyed. Often the subs are sweet and shy and you get a sense of who they are more from their inner nonaligned, but in this case I thought Emerson was most interesting in how he interacted with others. Typical of Innes, it’s a fairly superficial story with no angst - it’s the interplay between the characters that kept me interested. There are some crossover characters that pop up in the slumber parties which is always fun (as are those slumber parties!) but this could easily be read as a stand-alone. Jennie748 23

This is another fantastic addition to the Leashes and Lace series. I have been looking forward to Emerson's story for a little while now.

I loved his naughty innocence. He's a perfect fit for the Leashes and Lace team. The sleep over parties with fruity shushie drink are so much zany fun.

Emerson slipped effortlessly into his new venture with Luca, taking to the role of a sexy and sweet doll. Together, he and his Owner Luca made dollification and different role playing romantic and erotic.

This is such a fun, interesting story that I'd happily recommend to those with an open mind and a kinky side. Christina146 8

I have been waiting for Emerson's story since he popped up in the Our Love:The Story. I was not disappointed at all. Luca and Emerson's story is filled with laughter, sassy fun, and lots of love. I didn't know that Emerson had that much patience! But when your Owner needs you to help him get to know you better and learn the best ways to take care of his pretty doll. You take it slow, no matter how wiggly it makes you. Luca(Owner) is such a great fit for Emerson. He knows just how to take care of his pretty doll. Lots of pretty outfits, sparkles and let's not forget the tiara. M.A. Innes has written another wonderful story with characters that you want to keep reading about. Jaimed1,352 6

Hilarious

Oh my goodness. Emerson is a fantastically logically illogical character with only the best intentions towards his "Owner." Poor Luca doesn't know what be is in for, but he definitely gets what Emerson thinks he needs. I love these two so much. I think they are magic together.

This book is full of heat, hilarity, confusing logic that makes sense, and unsuspecting Doms. There is a good amount going on between our guys and watching it all unfold is fantastic. I was waiting for this book to come out and I was not disappointed at all. Beate Dorn196 2

I love M.A. Innes and as usual she delivered a perfect Book.

Owners & Dolls was a complete new kink for me, but so cute. Emerson and Luca are such a great couple. Emerson knows what he wants and Luca has no chance when Emerson crushes in his live, he has to live him.

The story between both is so cute and hot, I love how they take their time and have their talks about what they want.

I hope M.A. Innes will give us more from this kink, the book was fantastic to read.

I had the luck to get an ARC to read. Kelli D1,014 2

Best one yet

I love this series but I think this one is my favorite. I don't really remember Emerson from before but holy crap he is a hoot! The inner workings of his brain is crazy. It was a little hard to tell what he was as a real person, almost he was putting in an act the whole time. But once I said F it, that's just Emerson I really started to enjoy him even more. And the fact Luca seemed just as confused as me sometimes.....perfect!
By far one of the best dollification books I've read...which is a newer kink to me. Hollow'S4
