A missing sister. Her lying twin. Their estranged father. Her brother doesn't know where to turn or whom to trust.

Attorney JD Thompson leaves his practice in a small town to trace his sister across Texas. He can't believe she would run away. She was always the good twin, something the story of her twenty years, the friends who aren't, and the enemies who might be now call into question.

An attempted murder convinces him that his pursuit can lead only to a corpse. Still he searches with everything he's got to uncover the truth, no matter what it reveals.

The third book of the Black Orchid Enterprises Mystery series takes this amateur sleuth into his darkest mystery yet.

James(JD) is a lawyer and older brother to twins Merry and Cherry. Jonny Ly has a vet clinic, Dianne does taxes and Darryl is the assistant for this group that works together under one roof. When Merry comes up missing JD sets out to find her with the help of all the others. Cherry went so far as to take exams for her while she was gone but does she know where Merry is? They even run upon human bones being dug up.

You will travel to Waco, Galveston, Victoria, etc. It was really descriptive of what roads they were taking so fun because it was true roads.

One of my favorite series.

Before she died, the last thing JD's mother asked him to do was to take care of his little sisters, Merry and Cherry. He's kind of lost track of them since they're now 20 years old and in college. He's got his own life, and they've always been in the back of his mind between clients, his friends, and day-to-day life. Now he discovers that Merry has disappeared and no one, not even her twin sister, Cherry, has heard from her in months. In a state of panic, JD, Dianna, Johnny, Cherry, and Zap head across a large part of Texas trying to find her. JD is not optimistic that they'll find her. Maybe she's even already dead. The longer they look, the more JD learns about the twins. For one thing, they're not little girls anymore. He also finds that a college campus isn't always the safest place for young ladies. I really enjoyed this book. I think what I love most about this series is just seeing the world through JD's perspective. That guy has a way with words, and his views are sometimes hysterically funny. The subject of this book wasn't funny and it wasn't the easiest to read about, especially since it happens every single day. In this case, there is a happy ending for JD and his friends and family (or as happy as it can get). There was a lot of growing up, painful understanding (even by JD's dad who seems to have a heart of stone), and thoughtful decisions made by Merry and those who love her. I am kind of anxious to find out more about the whole group. I'll definitely keep reading. Louise1,431 18

Book 3, the story works as a standalone with plenty of reference from previous books. The story is predominantly written from JD's perspective as he embarks on a search, alongside his sister and friends, for his missing younger sister, Merry. Alongside the discovery of human remains, they travel around Texas and JD discovers truths behind his younger sisters' strained relationship and the truth behind their lives at school and at home.

There are great descriptions of Texas and in-depth insight into the well-rounded characters featured, particularly the relationship between JD and Dianne and the overall work relationship at Gregg House. Everyone reacts to the difficult situation in different ways and this demonstrates how important they are to each other as they worry about Merry's whereabouts.

A huge thank you to the author for letting me help refine the book, through AuthorsXP. The story is a rollercoaster of emotions and demonstrates the importance of family and communication, hence the consequences of keeping secrets. A very endearing story. Millicent EidsonAuthor 11 books8

Author M. R. Dimond does an enviable job of balancing mystery with lively characters and settings. As a veterinarian, I love that one of the key characters is a vet who helps his loved ones solve mysteries despite his nerdy challenges. This suspense story gets out of the law enforcement setting which anchors so many mysteries. Instead, the lead character J. D. Thompson practices family law, and sometimes the vanishing person is a family member. This wild and crazy story takes many twists and turns but ends with an endearing happy ending. I can’t wait to see what this creative Texas clan gets into next. Shelly Joyce 480 6

Family Matters: Lies Across Texas is book #3 in the Black Orchid Enterprises Mystery series by M. R. Dimond.

One of JD’s twin sisters is missing. Did she run away or did something sinister happen. There was a difficult subject discussed but I think it was handled with sensitivity. The characters are well developed and I enjoy the interaction between the friends. It was an interesting mystery and a great addition to the series.

Family Matters, #3 - This is an easy quickly read story set in Texas and written by someone who knows a bit about Texas. I missed the two previous books to this series but it did not matter, nor did the author rehash them.

The characters are an interesting mix and the story lines are Interesting and hold the reader's attention. There is plenty of love throughout the story in various forms. Even through the difficulties there is no vulgar language. Source: StoryOrigin. 4* Robin Smith159 1 follower

I enjoy the author’s writing style, it has humor and a sense of fun. The characters are distinctly different and three-dimensional, the plot is interesting and nerve-wracking at times. The mystery kept me guessing, and the reason for Merry’s disappearance is sensitive subject, but handled realistically. I have read the previous books, and plan to continue with this series. I received an ARC of this book from StoryOrigin, and this is my honest and voluntary review. Jane litherland2,238 36
