Sinopsis

A forgotten life.

A secret passed through generations.

A dangerous immortal with nothing to lose.

Joan Sanders is on track for a bright future at NASA, but a strange accident and even stranger dreams draw her to the Cardozas, three mysterious siblings with a charming coffee shop, a dark past, and an uncanny knack for knowing things they shouldn't.

As Joan grows closer to the Cardozas (especially the grumpy, yet charming, older brother), she's thrown into a world of secrets and magic that challenge everything she believes. And she realizes she may have more in common with them than she thought.

While Joan and the Cardozas race to unravel a centuries-old secret that could destroy time itself, an ancient, heartbroken drifter lurks on the edges of their lives, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

And he may know more about Joan's past than she does.

Thank you NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Keepers of Time follows Joan, a grad student at MIT, who crosses paths with the Cardoza siblings - Thiago, Luna and Gabby - who work at their family owned cafe. The Cardozas have a dark family history tangled in secrets and generational burdens, which they must uncover in order to protect each other and time itself.

The plot is riveting and feels very unique. The storyline has a lot of potential and I am intrigued to see how it will play out over the course of the series. This first book has set up a great plotline for the series but more could have been explored in this first book. The pacing of the story is not the best - the beginning (first 40%) is way too slow and could have been shortened. Moreover, the writing could have been better. Most of the writing is fine but then there are internal monologue lines or descriptions sprinkled in that read so awkwardly and break you out of the story.

The characters are interesting and play well off each other. Joan is particularly a great female lead. However, the characters are not fully formed - even though the chapters are written from multiple POV, you can't really distinguish a difference in tone of voice/style between the POVs. The relationships between characters is also a bit rushed - in particular, the romance subplot here feels half baked and a bit awkward as it feels forced. The chemistry doesn't seem to be there.

Overall, I found myself intrigued by the plot of this book. I think that anyone who loves books about time and enjoys a comfort read will enjoy this story.2 s Mariè118 28

WOW!!!
What a freaking journey!!, i mean where do i even start with this one, we meer the very charming joan, as she prepares for her internship at NASA, when an unfortunate accident happens and she gets saved by thiago, a cozy coffee shop owner and baker.
The different POV's were amazing, they all felt natural and actual different people, the writing was smooth and intriguing,
The plot thou was a *chef's kiss*
There were a few things that bothered me while reading; (joan and thiago's enmity that i just did not understand, the jump between timeframes) but when i got to the meat of the story those feelings simply dissipated.
The magic system was astounding ! I mean between psychic abilities, time travel, and a very unique clock tower that withholds the past, present and future of all of earth...how can i not love it!
The very few negatives i can think of are
The relationship between joan and thiago felt a little forced at first
Around the middle of the book it got a little slow
However a few chapter later on it picked up the pace wonderfully and wrapped it all up in a very heart wrenching cliff hanger
This was a truly amazing journey and i cannot wait to get back in this urban fantasy universe

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily1 Bella68
