An Undercover Heist Western

Luke Short’s “Station West” follows the theft of U.S. Army uniforms in a thriving mining town. Our hero is a demoted second lieutenant who is assigned the onerous task of recovering those missing uniforms. Initially, our hero’s commanding officers has misgivings because he is worried by our hero’s dubious record of conduct in the military. Nevertheless, our hero is resolved to unravel the mystery of the stolen uniforms and he goes about this with bravado, masquerading as a civilian. Moreover, apart from the stolen uniforms, the villains have also been stealing gold bullion. These gunslinging dastards have forced the army to stockpile the bullion awaiting transport because of the repeated stagecoach robberies. While our hero works undercover to smoke out the villains, he must contend with the chief villains underlings who pose quite an obstacle to the success of his mission. Tense and thrilling throughout, “Station West” delivers lots of mystery and mayhem as the hero struggles to prove his theory about their identity. Western readers who crave action, excitement, and atmosphere will savor this undercover horse opera! Josh Hitch935 10

A great western by one of the masters of the genre. Very well written charcters that you seemed to get to know without pages of background. The plot has a hole in it I believe but once you take it on face value the story is well told. The ending is well done and has a little twist on the main character's back story that was a fun way of fading to black. I say it that way cause it does read a mid 50s western B pucture, which is never a bad thing in my book.

Highly recommended for western fans, anything by Short that I've read is. Though non genre fans may this too it isnt a shoot em up western really, but more of an undercover detective story in a way. Lynn3,043 79

Only read this because STATION WEST is a film I admire and a free copy of the book came my way. The film is better (how often does one say that?), but the book is not at all bad. VENKATACHALAM1 review
