Sinopsis

A sweet, beachy romance by International and Award-Winning Bestselling Author Lindsay Detwiler, The Summer Song is perfect for fans of Emily Henry, Jane Green, and Debbie Macomber.

They always say you can't go home again, but let me add to that advice. If you do return home to live with your stoic, lawyer father and meddling mother, make sure you're not thirty with a bankrupt business and a failed romance.

At thirty, Mathilda "Tillie" Ashby's life is in shambles. After a failed business attempt in New York City and a deep betrayal, she's forced to return home to Ocean City, Maryland, the beach town she tried to escape. Trying to sort out her next career move and her finances, she finds herself working at a boardwalk restaurant called Tino's and living in her childhood bedroom with her helicopter parents.

When Tillie's life collides with Leo Turner, a UK pop sensation who's hiding from the pressures of fame for the...

To be honest, the book was kind of frustrating to me. The storyline and the overall concept were kind of ambiguous.
The fairytale of the romance between a pop star and a normal girl wasn't well written.
The circumstances that brought the couple together, and the way both caught feelings for each other, were too Hallmark-y to me. In addition, with how farfetched it was, the struggles of both characters didn't blend in with the romance.
I think they fell in love with the novelty of the setting and the difference between their lives rather than with each other's personalities.
Some parts didn't make much sense, for example, the weird dynamic between the MMC and his family, namely the family's financial dependency. Another part that was written just for the sake of adding drama was the best friend meeting with the FMC, it didn't mesh with how the two friends wrapped up their story arc in the end.
The ending was pretty forced to me, it didn't work out well. However, I wasn't really expecting a great finale by the time I finished the book.
Personally, I couldn't stop thinking about the fact that the book needed more developmental editing, the whole structure needed reevaluating, and the characters called for more depth.

I would to thank NetGalley for an arc of this book. This is a CLEAN romance book. Which is refreshing. It is well written and I found it to be an easy and quick read.

The story follows Tillie who moved back home after a failed business and relationship in NYC. She ends up serving at a local restaurant and has a bit of an accident caused by British pop star Leo, who is in town hiding from his chaotic life. They make a deal for the summer and end up with more than what they bargained for.
The book is told by FMC’s point of view.

There’s wasn’t anything about this book that I didn’t really . The overbearing parents were pushy just enough so they aren’t completely unbearable to read about. The love story itself ends up being an unconventional one in how they fell in love, but what I d about it was the author knew we (as readers) would question it and so it was written in the story from the FMC’s point of view. The book also didn’t drag on some others and wrapped things up in good timing. Overall I really enjoyed it and Pickles and Dorothy just made it so much better! Lauren Dunkley22 2

3.5 stars ??

Thanks to Netgalley for sending me an arc of this book!

This was a quick cosy read for me and I found myself smiling with all the interactions between our main characters. I d the fact that Tillie and Leo weren’t perfect and although there was slight miscommunication near the end (which I loathe) I feel they resolved this pretty painlessly!
Although they both came from very different backgrounds, they were able to relate to each-other.

The only complaint I have is that the dialogue felt slightly off at times and quite repetitive and it sometimes brought me out of the story but other than that I really enjoyed it! Marion71
