I think I was expecting more from this novella. Putting on the blurb John Wick (one of my favourite movie franchises) meets Jim Butcher (one of my favourite authors) meant I had very high expectations and unfortunately this did not meet them.

The worldbuilding, what there was of it, was good and where his magic came from was a new one for me which was great. However, the story drove me nuts. There was no real characterisation, it felt very much a graphic novel. Without giving too much away, all the hero did was bash his head against a brick wall on a number of occasions until he was rescued each time which didn't do it for me. And then the rescuer completely changed his point of view to help the hero which felt really artificial.

As I say there were some nuggets in here which worked, but overall this story really didn't live up to the hype.

This is such a fantastic fast paced urban fantasy read! Aldo Ren Is an incredible character, strong, kickass and a Mancer, a rogue practitioner of magic and sorcery. His adventure is exciting, thrilling and driven by revenge as we jump on this action packed rollercoaster and with incredible world building, you find yourself totally immersed in the story and unable to stop reading. It’s an incredible introduction to this world and I am very excited to see where the author takes us. Kez Marie386 23

This was an interesting and fast paced novella and the introduction to a creative supernatural world.
It's a revenge driven plot involving demons, vampires, sorcery and secret orders.
A good quick read with a Constantine/Blade feel.

Mancer is a fast paced fantasy novella. The worldbuilding is quite extensive, but I felt most of it was off page and any explanations were brushed over. That didn't take away from the overall story, whcih takes you on an action packed journey.

This was a super dark but really wonderful epic fantasy novella! Great characters, action-packed story, and fantasy elements make a great book.
