You may tell so many things about this book but I won't repeat them. I just say I it so much, love, balls, battles of 1812 year, but it is not enough for me to give the book 5 stars.

From my opinion this quadrology could be shorter and more dynamic if a respectful and amazing author Leo Tolstoy cut some war scenes. I understand that it was very important for him to show the war in this big novel as the title requires but I think it made the book divided in two different genres - romance and fiction mixed with non-fiction details of war. And for my senses, it made the book a little boring.

I hope fans will forgive me but I feel so.

Cheers to the immortal and greatest writer in the world!

Several essays in this book offer useful insights that draw on the philosophical and literary traditions leading up to Tolstoy and modestly increase one’s appreciation for Tolstoy’s carefully balanced achievement. For instance, Paul Debrczeny and Edward Wasiolek elucidate the subtle approach to free will that becomes Tolstoy’s obsession during the course of the book, W. Gareth Jones cleverly shows how Tolstoy exploits characters’ use of narrative while undermining the reader’s trust in narrative, and Patricia Carden uses the concept of memory to connect characters to their understanding of the divine and eternal. The goal in these short essays seems to be to turn huge novel around and shine light on particular aspects, not to connect its myriad parts.literature2 s Alistair VoganAuthor 4 books9
