Sinopsis

Arianna had to find her father. He’d disappeared in the desert country of Triar – which is where she started her search. Unfortunately, some unfinished business with the Sheik of Triar slowed her search. Rhys Sabad del Isolm, Sheik of Triar discovered that the lovely Arianna Callas was back in his country. The last time he’d seen the gorgeous, stubborn woman was almost a year ago and their ending had been…unsatisfying. Time to change that ending. Except that Arianna isn’t ready to re-visit the past. In fact, she’d like to avoid discussing the past and had absolutely no intention of any sort of relationship in the future! Unfortunately, Rhys had the resources that could expedite her father’s rescue. She’d have to play nice for a while – and keep the man at arm’s distance. That was her intention at least. Rhys wasn’t really the kind of man who allowed distance. And as they investigated her father’s disappearance together, Arianna wondered if she really wanted that distance.

For a lovely series, I found this book a sad conclusion. Twice I'd abandoned reading the book, but as I'd enjoyed the other books in this series, I felt I should see it through. I found Arianna's behavior and reaction constantly OTT whereas Rhys laughed too much for everything.

The two met six months ago while Arianna was visiting her father, who was working on an oil rig as an engineer in Triar, and were instantly attracted to each other. Rhys started wooing her with flowers, gifts and dinner and after one kiss he was so shaken by what he felt and having recalled what his chief adviser once said about such feelings, he ends up laughing heartily. He is then called away, and Arianna is bewildered by his laugh and his leaving without any explanation although he did tell her he would be back. But, she felt so humiliated that she goes back to Virginia and doesn't answer any of his calls. So, they break up over a very silly matter. Now, six months later, her father is missing, so she goes to ask Rhys for help in finding him. She ends up staying overnight at the palace. Since her clothes were still in the hotel she sleeps in the raw, but doesn't lock her room. Seriously?? And, he just walks in the following morning without knocking as if they were a couple and sits on the bed voyeuring her naked form while she's sleeping??

Then when he takes her to the hotel to collect her belongings, she, instead of telling him straight up that her clothes are strewn all over the bed and floor of the room --of course she couldn't tell him some were her exquisite lace lingerie-- panics and tells him he couldn't go to her room which makes him and his bodyguards suspicious of her that she either had a man there or hiding some weapon or laid a trap for them and it escalated further with her trying to block him from entering the room. She was a total drama queen. The poor bodyguards of Rhys didn't know what to make of the woman.
“What a crock of shit!”
Turning, unaware of her mouth falling open in surprise, she stared at him.
“Excuse me?” she asked not sure if she understood what he meant.
He waved his hand towards the rig site, shaking his head. “That idiot didn’t know the first thing about running a rig. First of all, he kept referring to the site as a drilling rig. Anyone who has worked on a rig for even a week knows the difference between a drilling rig and a production rig. That idiot…oomph!”
Arianna had heard the first part of his sentence, and launched herself across the seat towards him, landing in his lap and wrapping her arms around his neck.
“Thank you!” she sighed, hugging him and kissing his neck. Her exuberance was just…natural to her. She and her father had been very affectionate people but the swerving of the SUV caught her attention and she swung around. Thankfully, Rhys’ arms held her close when, suddenly, she realized that the bodyguards had swerved off of the road and were ready to tackle her out of the car, thinking that she’d just attacked their ruler.

I kept rolling my eyes at her OTT behavior and actions the time they were shut in his room making love.
“Why can’t you be here overnight?”
She stared up at him, shocked that he could be so obtuse. “Because your staff will know that I was in here!”
He waited, but she didn’t continue. “And?”
“And…!” she repeated, as if he should already know the answer, “they might know what is going on between us.”

Again, after a night of delicious love-making, she goes into another a panic mode about the guards when otherwise, in full view of the guards she sits on Rhys' lap, kisses him, etc.
“We have to get out of here!”
He watched her, confused but not overly concerned. “We do?”
… “Why must we get out of here?”
She clutched her clothes and the towel, knowing exactly where his mind was going. It was pretty obvious when she glanced down at his…well, down.
“We’ve been in here all night! I should have left last night after dinner but…”
“But we didn’t have dinner until around midnight and you were
exhausted.” He came closer but she backed away.
“Yes, exactly. So, if we stay in this bedroom all day today, your guards are going to know what we’re doing. We can’t…”
Once again, he laughed, shaking his head as he moved closer. Taking her hands in his, he watched with fascination as the towel dropped to the floor. “I hate to break it to you, Arianna, but my guards already know what happened last night.”
“No!” she gasped, and tried to pull her hands away so that at least her clothes could hide her nudity. “They can’t know! If we get out of here quickly, we could just tell them that I fell asleep while we discussed the next step in the investigation.”

And, this woman is supposed to be a smart business manager! I think EL was trying to project her as cute. Well, there is naive, there is cute and there is weird. Arianna falls into the last category.

But, she did display smartness and courage when Rhys left her and two bodyguards in the cave for her safety when his convoy was attacked and the assassins attacked the cave and one bodyguard was shot. She somehow figured out how to use the rifle and helped the other bodyguard by firing at the assassins and also saved the other bodyguard's life by staunching his blood. I really d her then and the other few times she kicked bad men in the groin with the steel-toed shoes Rhys bought her.

The book got a little interesting with Rhys and Arianna going out to the rigs to investigate who kidnapped her father, who was found brutally beaten but alive. The love scenes and romance was good, but Arianna's OTT reactions did continue till the end.

In the previous book of the series, The Russian's Proposal, which was about Katia and Sergei, there was this whole mystery about Arianna, her friends are worried about her after she called in sick at work after a visit from a guy in dark suit, then misses the friends' weekly coffee sessions after a visit from another guy in dark suit and she refuses to talk about her problem. However, in this book, no explanation was given about who were these guys who visited her in Virginia. Further, a few times when Arianna was thinking about her friends being happy with their respective husbands, she omitted Katia and Sergei and I wondered why.

Eg 1: She knew Hayden and Natalie, both of whom had married extremely wealthy men. But she suspected that Javier, Natalie’s husband, as well as Viktor, Hayden’s man, were completely different from the other wealthy men in the world. Not to mention, Sheik Rhys was…well, he was a sheik!

Eg: 2 Could she find what Natalie and Hayden had discovered?

The epilogue was okay. Would have been more fun if all four friends of the series and their respective husbands and children were shown together. Nevertheless, if this book wasn't a total write-off it was because of the action --mainly Arianna's bravery while in the cave-- the investigation she and Rhys carried out and their sensual love-making scenes.alpha-male good-parent-sibling h-loved-crushed-on-hero-before ...more7 s Ivy H855

And the award for the most paranoid heroine goes to Arianna Callas, from this book !

This novel has the most stupid reason for a separation EVER ! Arianna had been dating the H Rhys casually for a week or so when she misinterpreted A LAUGH he shared with an employee. Yep, you read that right ( since I did kinda shout it out in bold letters ). The H had left the dinner table to go talk to his employee, Arianna saw them laughing and thought that they were laughing at her. Hmnnn....paranoid and insecure much ? Forgive me for sounding an intellectually challenged Yoda, but Arianna was just dumber than the most useless rocks in the history of the universe. I can't believe the author actually thought that "a laugh" was sufficient rationale for the heroine to get up from the dinner table in a huff and run home. What's worse, she ignored the H's telephone calls for months because she thinks he laughed at her. That doesn't sound a person that's entirely sane or logical.

The next mind contorting issue I had to dwell on was the fact that an Arabian sheikh H had a Welsh first name. The name "Rhys" is indeed of Welsh origin and the author didn't even explain it by suggesting that perhaps the H had a Welsh mother or maternal relatives in Wales. The story line itself wasn't bad. There was some mild intrigue linked to a few villains trying to steal oil from the H's drilling operations rigs. I did enjoy a few scenes a lot, however. The heroine managed to kick a few bad guys in the balls while wearing steel toe combat boots. That made me laugh for sure. There were some sex scenes too and the MC's did share hot chemistry. This was ok I guess, but it was not as good as Spanish Passions. I think I spent too much time laughing at how dumb and reactive Arianna kept behaving and that probably prevented me from enjoying the story properly.hero-celibate-during-separation heroine-celibate-during-separation heroine-lacking-common-sense ...more5 s *CJ*4,313 517

"One Night with the Sheik" is the story of Arianna and Sheikh Rhys.
Months ago, a shy Arianna was courted by Rhys until a misunderstanding drives her away. Now as her father, who works as his construction manager goes missing, Arianna enlists Rhys's help to find him- while the attraction which she pretended to ignore hits her full force.
Average story with likable leads, sweet love making scenes and a small mystery/drama. Not the best in this series, but certainly not a bad read.

Arianna visited her father and the Sheikh noticed her. When they kissed, he suddenly laughed because he felt the lightning that his assistant had warned him about meeting the right woman. Arianna thought he was laughing at her and she left. 6 months later, she came to the Sheikh asking for his help to find her missing father. Her father had been kidnapped because he found out about the embezzlement at the oil rig. Arianna coursgeously helped saving the Sheikh guards and use the firearm to shoot the enemies. Duhh. They made love and he told her why he had laughed. They found the perpetrator and HEA.This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.Show full review Jacqueline349

I love this author she has written some great filler books. That's what I call the no brainier books that you know you buy and are really going to enjoy, ones that you can read because you have a day until the series book you are waiting for gets released and you've got a day with nothing to read enter Elizabeth Lennox. Another really enjoyable read I love her sheikh books and this one didn't disappoint. Carmelita Clardy483

The final book

This is the 4th and final book in the series and it was good. The h at times was annoying, her father had been kidnapped and she went to the H for help. They had a strong attraction but every time he touched her, she would lose focus. At times it dragged but a good book. Good ending. Kat Halbert19
