Lexy Baker Cosy Mystery book # 11.5

Grandmas playing sleuths at a retirement home after one of their own is found dead…murdered it seems by a cup cake….

I really don’t know when or where I got this book…it seemed it has been in my library for longer than it should have been….not totally my taste, a bit too simplistic but being short I think barely 50 pages it made for a fast read I didn’t mind adding on my phone.

Grandmas helping detectives I doubt it but they were good at putting their noses where it did not belong and of course these old biddies solved the case for the poor detective that tried very hard to tell them politely to go play… bocce… shuffleboard or any other game old folks may play instead.

Short and rather sweet, by far not literature but this little tiny story was so visual I still picture in my mind how these loveable ladies were dress, how they acted and the ways they acted. Cute and funny.3 s1 comment billy43

This book really surprised me! The Lexy baker series is a very guilty pleasure of mine, but with this very short novella side story focusing more on the ladies detective club- I don’t feel so guilty. The writing in this story has improved immensely from the other lexy baker books. (I have only read up to ‘scones, skulls and scams’ but wanted to read this sooner rather than later). The mystery in this was great! And wasn’t overblown the other books- with this story only reaching 120 pages. I was genuinely surprised by the killer reveal- and it all tied up in a nice bow and Dobbs wasn’t afraid to take quite a few pages to explain the plot twist. I would LOVE to see more of these Ladies detective club novellas, and maybe in physical form? And that’s another thing, this book is limited to ebook which is kind of sad as I’d love to own a paperback copy.
!!! Leighann Dobbs, if you can send me a paperback copy of this book please contact me on Instagram @yellowstqnes !!!
But overall, this book really surprised me.

Lexy Baker's grandmother, Mona "Nans" Baker, and her sleuthing friends, Helen, Ida, and Ruth were on their way back to their apartments in the Brookridge Falls Retirement Center, talking about their friend, Amelia Partridge winning bingo for the fifth time this month. The next morning they discover that Amelia has died facw down in a pear tart. The police say it is a natural death but the four elderly ladies do not believe that for a second.
They begin investigating and they have dragged Lexy into their group hoping she can get some clues from her husband, Detective Jack Perillo.
The ladies have several suspects and start to visit them one by one.
I love the Lexy Baker series by Leighann Dobbs. I enjoy the characters in this series. There is always a plot, some humor and a way to watch the friendship of these ladies.
This is a must read! I received an advance copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.1 comment Susan Hamann1,089 12

An adorable, fun cozy mystery. When the ladies at the Brook Ridge Falls Retirement Center find out that their friend has died in her home, right after she wins big at Bingo, they decide to investigate. Although it appears that she died of natural causes, they decide to do some detective work.

This is a delightfully funny book with some very nosy old ladies.

I recommend this book for a reader of almost any age.1 comment Audrey884 7

Lexi, her grandmother and her grandmother’s friends investigate when one of their friends turn up dead. They originally thought Amelia Partridge was running a bingo scam when she kept winning! Now they think that could be motive for her murder!
I really enjoyed this easy and delightful read! It was a short book. They group seem very close & use to solving crimes. Imagine Miss Marple if she had friends to help her. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read! I highly recommend this book! Rachelle478 8

This series has a group of ladies who live in a retirement village who help solve crimes.
This is the first Lexy Baker book that I have read. When I read a description of what the ladies were waring, I decided it may be a help later on. There are many suspects and the ladies use baked goods to help them questions them. They do not think it was natural causes the police did. Read everything carefully. I this series. In this one, a friend of Lexy's grandmother, Nans, is discovered dead after winning the big bingo jackpot for the 5th time in a month. Nans, Lexy and friends pool their knowledge and resources to help the police solve the crime. Great writing, good plot, and the characters & dialog are well rounded & believable. Julie482 10

I love unusual heroes and heroines, which is why this is such a fabulous series. Who looks at bakers and women in retirement communities as crime fighters? Maybe they need to pay more attention.

And honestly, what's better than solving a pear tart mystery around Christmas? If only there were 5 gold rings as a reward:) Lauren HallAuthor 8 books3

A sweet, classic cozy with funny old gals solving crimes and enjoying the heck out of life and lots of baked goodies. Fast-paced, with good revelation all along the way that helps the reader to figure out the suspects right alongside the characters (I that in a mystery!). I would have d the characters to have a little more depth, but despite that, they are very appealing. Laurel 1,014 2

This was a very short clean Lexy Baker Christmas Season mystery. The Senior Center resident's had this figured out really quick and in a logical way. The characters were fun, and this really was a stand alone read. One didn't need to have read any of the other books in this series, to understand this Novella. Shannon Binegar-Foster1,825 8

Somehow I missed this story. I really loved it. I truly had no idea who the killer was. I just love Mona and her friends. The story just wouldn't be the same without them.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. Michelle1,836 13

A fun cozy. Lexy's grandmother and her friends are at it again. When a woman in their retirement community dies, they are certain it is murder and start investigating it right away. Of course it was and they solve it.2020-reads1 comment Liza1,906 13

A quick and easy read.

Who poisoned Amelia Partridge? and why?

Was it Bingo cheating? A greedy grandson? The grandson's girlfriend? A high school love gone wrong?

The ladies go visiting and ask all the right questions.

Tasty tale Anne654

I really d this book. I love all of Leighann Dobbs books because of the great characters and just the mystery in general. They all seem so believable, they could happen in real life. Can't wait for the next one! Narelle Williams129 1 follower

Another freebie I received in a cozy mystery give away. A nice light hearted murder, quick read - and it's nice to read about some older stars and not always young, good looking main characters. Enjoyable. Will read some more of the series. Cathy Inboden298

This is a very good series. You will want to read it and love it me. louise davis84 1 follower

Charming novella with the older sleuths at the retirement community and the local baker. Ann957

Brilliant ?? as ever ?? As a septuagenarian, the ONLY way I would ever even consider living in a Seniors Home would be if I was a member of a Golden Sleuths gang
