Sinopsis

A llama? Standing in the yard of her holiday cottage? Lucy could hardly believe it was true. And it was only the beginning since she came to the magical farm of possibilities….

On holiday by doctor’s orders, Lucy Granger needs tranquility, and the rustic cottage on New Moon Lane seems the ideal choice. Rolling Yorkshire hills , fields of fresh green, and gentle forest groves just a stone’s throw from the tiny village suits Lucy's needs to a tee. But there’s more to it than meets the eye.

For one thing, she’s not the only tenant, as she learns when a llama named Llarry strolls out of the farm's supposedly-derelict barn. He’s soon followed by others in a menagerie of adorable—but tragically abandoned—animals, from a sickly donkey who likes eating crisps to a flirtatious cockerel sleeping in the back garden.

Poor Lucy must get stuck in with farm chores until she can find someone else to take them on. But it’s not all mucking stalls and patching fences, since surprises are yet to be revealed about the unique mix of furry and feathered friends. Surprises about Lucy too, as an unexpected kinship and courage blossom in surroundings where “Inspiration came in the sunshine and the leaves, and even in the rain that dripped from the vines roping around it with their first green flower buds…”

Will Lucy’s ordinary life ever be the same after her experience on New Moon Lane? More importantly, should she really want it to be?

Lucy is ordered by her doctor to rest after a medical emergency. She quits her job, gets a new one and moves to the country for some fresh air. She finds a fixer upper on a farm not knowing the previous caretaker left some animals behind.

I quite d the names of the animals: Llarry the llama, Dimitri the donkey, Philomena the llama, Fiona the Alpaca and Kenny the rooster.

She has a hard time talking to people and gets really nervous, but I d watching her slowly come out of her introverted shell and talk to actual people, and not just the animals. She was quite the DIY'er too. I, also, d the additional career journey that was introduced towards the end as it sounded perfect for her. There's a cozy, small town vibe that has a milk man and a young special needs boy named Liam that'll be sure to put a smile of your face.

A quick, lighthearted read that is true women's fiction as there wasn't a love interest at all. I'm invested in Lucy's story and look forward to see what is in store for her next in A Winter Moon's Welcome.

I was drawn to this as it seemed fun and quirky, and it was. Reading is a special place for me as I went to university there, so the setting was easy to imagine. Cute animals and second chances. A relaxing book.

Lucy needs to get away and rest. She finds the perfect place in Yorkshire. The little house needs some work but she can do that while working on her newest tech game. She wasn’t expecting the crew of animals to be outside her door.
Lucy is rather shy and s to be away from people. She probably gets along better with animals than people.
It’s a lovely little story. I can’t wait to read the next book

For some reason, when I picked this book up I was expecting a cosy romance (not sure why as the blurb doesn’t mention romance at all!), but I was pleasantly surprised to find this book is a cosy something-else instead… a cosy story-of-personal growth, a cosy life lesson? I can definitely promise you that it will leave you feeling all cosy and relaxed after reading it.

Lucy is quiet, introverted, detached, and struggles to be part of the expected rat race of city life, so when a health issue forces her to temporarily retire she chooses a countryside ‘burrow’ in which to hunker down and lick her wounds. So she is not best pleased to find her new hidey hole comes with an intrusively friendly local community and some unexpected animal baggage. Luckily, these things have a habit on growing on you, given half a chance, and Lucy has nothing but time (well, and a knack for creative productivity).

This story really satisfied my cottagecore cravings as Lucy goes about craftily decorating her new home and learning new skills, cooking soup and felting adorable mini versions of her animal friends (real and imaginary). And when the book described her drawings/writing, I felt I could actually see them through the words on the page… I nearly took to Google to see whether her llama story had made it into print yet!

A gentle, easy-reading, breath of fresh air, this simple story of finding peace in a simpler life is the perfect antidote to the stresses of everyday life (or an overdose of high-octane thrillers!) and will leave you feeling refreshed and comforted.

When Lucy receives the news her mobile phone game has been taken on by a big game company, she uses the advance money she has been given to rent a run down cottage in the Yorkshire countryside, a far cry from her flat in Reading.

As she settles in she finds animals on the farm she was not expecting and it appears no one has been looking after them for the last few days.

Introverted, socially awkward and a bit of a loner, she soon settles into her new life looking after the animals, doing up the cottage and garden. She even finds the inspiration to begin making her own soup from a recipe book.

Will this holiday be a new beginning for Lucy?

I enjoyed getting to know Lucy and the animals. Quite an inspiring young lady who is up for anything new - DIY, animal care, cooking and a bit of needle felting!

Gorgeously written and the descriptions had me completely immersed.

I’m so pleased there is a second book in this series which I will read. I’m keen to find out what Lucy does next. blog-tour-kindle-books1 Kirsty (BookBlogger)1,423 50

The Llama Farm on New Moon Lane by Laura Briggs

Blurb

Young and quiet, Lucy Granger leads an introverted life in Reading , living in a flat and working in design at a graphics company—until it is upended when she both sells her idea for a mobile game and suffers an unexpected medical diagnosis shortly afterwards. Facing a mandated medical rest period, she decides to use her windfall earnings to take a year's holiday, renting a farm on New Moon Lane in a country village in Yorkshire. As Lucy settles into her holiday home for some tranquility, she soon learns that she is not the only tenant, when a llama named Llarry strolls out of the farm's supposedly-derelict barn. He is shortly followed by others in a menagerie of abandoned animals left behind—from a sickly donkey who s eating crisps to a flirtatious cockerel sleeping in the back garden. To Lucy's consternation, no one is willing or able to take them on, leaving her with a strange mix of furry and feathered friends to find homes for. Reluctantly adapting to her circumstances in order to deal with this problem, Lucy will discover other surprises about the animals in her care, and the place she is temporarily calling home. About herself, as well. Will her ordinary life ever be the same after her experience on New Moon Lane? More importantly, should she really want it to be?

My Opinion

Lucy moves to the countryside for a break, what she didn't expect was to find that animals had been left on the farm by the caretaker. This was a lovely, relaxing read. This is the first book I have read by Laura Briggs and I am sure that it won't be my last. I really enjoyed reading about the animals and watching Lucy learn about them. With a nice, gentle pace, this book really feels the start of a great new series.

The Llama Farm on New Moon Lane is a delightful read, light enough for a summer weekend, and definitely a feel-good story, but not terribly fluffy or frothy.

I love that the protagonist, Lucy, is a woman with a job in a STEM field. She codes for one company as her day job, but also designs video games. One, in particular,
which follows the life of a hedgehog ought to be real, because I think every reader would want to play it. As well, her submission of that game to a contest by a game
publisher is what gives Lucy her second career, and provides the funds for her medical break to the titular Llama Farm .

As someone who is always telling her husband whenever there’s a donkey, llama or (because we live in Florida), sugar glider, in need of rescue, I understood
Lucy’s initial trepidation at caring for the unexpected animals that came with her new, rural, home, and the way she grew to love them. (My husband has limited
our livestock acquisitions to dogs).

I also loved her interactions with her neighbor, Fran, and with Liam, an apparently autistic boy for whom visits to the animals are a form of unofficial
therapy.

Author Laura Briggs has given us a vivid story replete with charming animals, and a lovely landscape. (I’ve only ever been to London, never Yorkshire, and this
book has reminded me how much I’d love to visit there). All of the characters – human and animal – felt very real, and I enjoyed this escape into a quieter,
gentler live very much.

Goes well with hot tea and cucumber sandwiches. contemporary-fiction women-s-fiction Julia2,695 82

The Llama Farm On New Moon Lane by Laura Briggs is a very delightful contemporary tale that will warm your heart.
The story is mainly set in Yorkshire. The llama farm is in complete contrast to urban Reading which was stifling a character. In the countryside characters can flourish as the surroundings prove to be a tonic to ill health.
The llama farm is home to a few animals in need of love and care. They are those that others have rejected, including Dimitri, an elderly donkey who needs peace and quiet in his old age.
Just being with animals can be therapeutic for both children and adults a. We meet a young boy with special needs who bonds with the animals especially Larry the llama.
Laura Briggs has perfectly painted the scenes with her words. The reader can ‘see’ the beautiful landscape as we also ‘bond’ with the animals.
Village living means your business is everyone’s! It is a friendly environment that feels home. What starts off as a temporary place to rest and recuperate soon becomes permanent as a house becomes a home.
All the characters – both human and animal – were delightfully drawn and I loved them all.
I cannot wait for the subsequent books in the series.
The Llama Farm On New Moon Lane was a positively charming read.
I received a free copy from Rachel’s Random Resources for a blog tour. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

Lucy Granger creates video games for cell phones. She’s really good at her job but under pressure to design faster. She needs a break and finds the perfect summer rental in the country. Yes, it needs some work but what bargain basement place doesn’t? Several days after moving into her new country rental she notices several animals on the farm, to the tune of a sickly donkey, a curious llama and a cranky rooster. What is going on? Turns out the caretaker has quit and there is no one to take care of the animals that were originally used as animals that special needs children would visit and help groom and feed. It worked out beautifully, the animals and children both loved it. Now Lucy is a city girl and has no idea how to take care of animals such as dogs or cats let alone farm animals. The vet gives her medicine for the donkey who makes a quick recovery along with the help of eating his favorite food, crisps. She gets a quick education on the care of the animals and meets quite a few of the people living in the surrounding area. She’s not used to everyone knowing everyone else’s business but adapts. This sort of reminds me of a James Herriot story with the funny tales of the endearing animals. No romance in the book either which is a welcome change. The story focuses on her, and the animals and I absolutely loved it. There is another book releasing in November and I can’t wait to read it.3 s loopyloulaura999 20

Lucy is a computer programmer who suffers from ill health and moves to the country for some peace and quiet. Except her cotttage has a llama, cockerel and donkey that shouldn't be there...!
The Llama Farm on New Moon Lane is a light hearted book about a change of pace for a physical and emotional reset.
Lucy's health takes a turn for the worse just as her career is set to take a new direction. Her new game sounds fab although the computer jargon was a bit above my head. However, the connection she makes with the animals is beautifully written. The animals' characters are brought to life and I especially fell in love with Dimitri the donkey.
The book is written in the third person which allows some disance from the emotions that Lucy is feeling as she rethinks her life and priorities. There is a gentle humour and light hearted tone to the writing which makes this story so enjoyable. The villagers are very involved in every aspect of communiety life which adds another touch of exasperation and humour. The conclusion of the book is open ended and a little abrupt, setting the scene for the next book in the series. Overall, the book leaves a feel-good response to the plot and characters.
The Llama Farm on New Moon Lane is a warm and uplifting book about fresh starts and emotional healing. Elaine - Splashes Into Books3,664 121

The llama farm

I absolutely loved this book its an inspiration to all. It shows that although you think your life is mapped out, it takes a spanner in the works or an illness in Lucy's case to follow a different path. Lucy got to know Fran and Liam it gave her something else to think about other than the game HedgeHoles she had designed. Lucy carried on doing her drawings of the farmyard animals in cars and rockets etc. Lucy carried on doing bits of design and code on her chipmunk game but also drew cartoons of llarry & Philomena the llamas, an alpaca called Fiona,Dimitri the donkey & Kenny the rooster. I cant wait to read the next book, A winter moons welcome. Roberta1,159 16

I’ve not read anything by Laura Briggs before, but the blurb was appealing, so I decided to give it a try.

I enjoyed reading this book, which was slow and gentle. I loved all the animals that gradually appeared, especially the hedgehog and the llamas. It was very pleasant to watch Lucy slowly settling into her new home. It definitely feels the beginning of a good story.

I would recommend this book if you’re looking for something really relaxing to read, and you love animals.

Lucy rents a cottage and unbeknownst to her she has also inherited some charming animals that she has no idea what to do with. I loved this beautiful story as it was very easy to read and it bewitched me with the cheeky llamas and donkey. If you are after a nice and easy read with cute animals then you simply need to read this. I was ticked pink when I realised that there is a second book coming and look forward to reading it! I really this book's gentle quietness. This was a peaceful, relaxing and very lovely story. I usually read books that have more dialog, action, drama, adventures, mysteries and secrets. Because of that, at first the quitness of this book felt strange. But soon it turned out to be a lovely reading experience.f-drama-contemporary Nancy Harkin31
