Sinopsis
Why am I still alive?
That is the question John, a trauma doctor, asks himself over and over as he mourns the death of his wife. Lost and alone, he wanders the streets of a glamorous Mediterranean resort trying to escape the pain.
He drifts from bar to bar until he meets Jasna, a captivating hostess. She teases him out of his suffering and, against their better judgement, they fall in love.
Then tragedy strikes, and John is pitched into a ruthless world of drugs, prostitution and murder, where life is cheap and nothing is as it seems.
In this all-new edition, Escape: The Hunter Cut takes the classic tale of L.A. Davenport's debut novel Escape and retells it through John's eyes, as he battles with himself and the events that threaten to overwhelm him.

He ends up in a seedy strip joint, where he meets Jasna, a brilliant and beautiful hostess. Against their better judgement, they become infatuated and begin to fall in love.
When she is brutally killed, John is the only suspect. After he is mysteriously let go by the police, Charles, the hotel manager, reveals that Jasnas death is far from an isolated incident, and he recently lost his granddaughter, Erin, in similar circumstances.
Seeking to clear Johns name and obtain justice from Jasna and Erin, they are pitched into a ruthless world of people-trafficking, prostitution, drugs and murder, where life is cheap and nothing is as it seems.
Will they gather the evidence in time to stop the killers, or be their next victims? Can they trust the police, or are they part of the corruption reaching into every part of life?
Escape is the debut novel by L. A. Davenport, plunging you into a darkly glamorous world where John has to overcome his grief to avenge Jasna, Erin and the victims of modern slavery.
Review: Overall, this was an ok book. The book had fairly good character development and a heart-wrenching story. For the most part it was enjoyable and the book was well done.
However, I thought the book was a bit too long for me and the book wasnt as much of a mystery as I would have d it. The demon inside of our main character didnt really come into play either, which was disappointing, and the plot got a bit stale especially towards the end.
Verdict: It was an ok book!

John, a recent widow, goes to a resort in the Eastern Mediterranean to get away from his sorrow. However, his escape from reality comes with dire consequences. The resort is serving more than fine food and drinks. The gang running the area has its hand in everything, and almost everyone is under their control. John isnt though, and he proves to be tougher than anyone ever suspected. Petrov, the gang leader, sure did underestimate the middle-aged doctor (John).
Suspense, violence, mystery, love, friendship, and sadness
Escape sure had a lot going on.
As for the mystery aspect of this story, it wasnt so much as who killed the ladies, but how would the gang be taken down.
L. A. Davenport broke up Escape into nine parts, with each section having three to eight chapters under them. Ive read stories with 1-3 sections but never nine. Each part also began with Chapter One. That means, there are NINE of them. That seemed odd to me. Why start each part with Chapter One?! While the story was pretty good, this unusual setup seemed unnecessary and made no sense at all.
Now, let me talk about Johns love for his deceased wife. It was apparent her passing tore him up. He spoke to her portrait often. Yes, theres no doubt in my mind he loved her, loves her still, but this is where things turn south for me. He fell in love with another woman, Jasna, quite soon after his wife died. He didnt know Jasna. Yes, she was a nice woman, but he didnt really know the real her. I think he was confusing infatuation with love.
John also spoke of this demon inside him, which wanted John to do bad things. I assumed the demon would come into play later on, maybe a surprise twist, but it did not. That was a bit of a letdown.
Even though I had issues with some details of Escape, I do love when the underdog gets the upper hand. If you do as well, then buy this book.

A book with intriguing cover art? Yep. Solid characters we grow to know and love? Yep. A plot that leaves you emotionally wrecked? Yep! I really enjoyed reading this one if youre after a bit of a thriller combined with romantic suspense, then Escape is definitely one to add to your list.
Escape really captures exactly how a person feels when losing a loved one. The strong emotions the main character felt were reflected in a way that made me stop and think a little. I must congratulate Davenport on this hes done an incredible job!
I feel each character has been created with care and each of the main characters were memorable and solid. I thought Charles character was perfect he was strange enough for me to question in the beginning, but by the end, my view of him completely changed I loved it!

I'm definitely not much of a reader but author L. A. Davenport really painted a picture for me that was hard for me to put the book down. I will day that I was hooked right away but if I'm being totally honest I expected a different ended. Don't get me worth it was good but for someone who doesn't read as much as he should the ending to me was ver lackluster. Overall I would recommend this book and can't wait to read another one from L.A. Davenport. Pat Eroh2,612 29
