This is the best book yet in the series. Rachel Griffin continues to grow as a person, and we get a chance to explore the magical UK and the history of the Griffin family. Full of excitement and heartwarming moments. 1 S. PierzchalaAuthor 8 books17

This novel is chock full of all the elements we've come to love; charming and virtuous young characters, mystery, incredible danger, and lots of gentle humor. While Rachel Griffin is recovering from the heartbreaking developments of the previous installment, she is given the opportunity to grow closer to her parents. Rachel's world and her relationships with her friends, crush, and family are lovingly crafted in a lot of detail. So much so, in fact, that the reader really should be invested in the series up to this point or they will ly be lost in the eventful plot and complex world-building.

One of the things I about the Unexpected Enlightenment novels is that there's hardly any annoying current slang. The real-world cultural references are often of an historical nature, and I often found myself setting the book aside to Google something I didn't know anything about (such as the Irish sport, hurling). The book has a timeless, classic feel. I also appreciate how, as Rachel and her friends learn more about the mysterious machinations that have enshrouded their world, the vibe becomes less Harry Potteresque and decidedly more Narnian. While dealing with some very heavy questions, such as how best to use our talents in life and what happens after death, Lamplighter paints some lyrical, numinous scenes that at times took my breath away.

Very engrossing, and entertaining. Recommended for fans of spunky heroines and magical schools. Mary CatelliAuthor 52 books189
