This delightful cozy mystery is full of quirky characters, zany plots, and outrageous fun.

I have not read the first books in this series, but had no trouble becoming immersed in the story. The plot grabs you and doesn’t let go.

The author provides nonstop action, storylines so crazy they must be true, and most of all a fun respite from mundane life.

Join Susan and the residents of Doyle as they deal with murder, mayhem, and more. With her planner in hand, Susan tries to conquer issues with domineering parents, “alien” squirrels, and murder suspects, to name a few.

I received a copy of the book for a Goddess Fish blog tour. This review is my honest opinion.2021- reviewed3 s Andrea696 18

"If there's anything worse than walking in on your parents in the throes of disposing of a body, I don't want to know what it is.

But I'm getting ahead of myself."

They say that the opening lines of your book can make or break it. With these words, I knew I was in for a zany ride and then couldn't put the book down for the rest of the night.

Quirky characters can also make or break your book. I've read other cozies that had some quirky characters that just fell short of the mark for me. But I was completely dedicated to this crazy cast. Susan's parents have just arrived at her B&B, which has a UFO theme to it, making it its own quirky character. They are spies and are adept at eliminating people who are a threat. Susan walks in on the one and then her parents are also suspects in another murder that happened in her little town of Doyle.

Her mother is one of those controlling mothers who is constantly fussing over everything her daughter says, does, wears, etc., and her dad just kind of stays back and lets it all happen. They're completely eccentric, too, of course, being spies who have murdered someone and are still waiting for the "cleanup crew" to come take it away. I actually them in spite of disliking them, if that makes any sense.

So as we get to know them, we better understand why Susan is rather neurotic about her planner, obsessively writing in it and planning every aspect of her day down to the minute. She has to be able to control something in her life, right? But as she notes, that detail-oriented mind actually benefits her in her unofficial career of being a sleuth.

Sticking by her side is her beloved significant other, Arsen. He also has a knack for questioning and is always supportive of Susan, embracing her and her planner. Wouldn't we all love to have someone that?

Rounding out the crew are all of the suspects, including the children of the deceased and their spouses, and of course, the butler, plus some UFO-obsessed tourists, Susan's cousin Dixie who is apathetic towards everything, and the ever-suspicious sheriff.

The situations they find themselves in are completely out-of-this-world and I want to see this played out on a screen somewhere. It's just that much fun.

This book is the fourth in the Wits' End cozy mystery series, but definitely works as a standalone. There are enough references, though, to previous installments that I am finding myself wanting to go back and read the full stories. Well done!

Thank you to Goddess Fish and the author for providing me with a requested review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.1 Vickie2,078 7

I will read any and all that Kirsten Weiss writes. Each of her series are delightfully unique with some crossover in some. I the setting of Doyle and the UFO themed B&B that Susan, the main character, runs with help of her cousin, the rebellious Dixie.
I that her friend of many years, Arsen, is now the love of her life and he stands by her in all things. Even when others are sure that Susan is a bit off her rocker. Susan's self-justification of investigating the strange goings on, to include suspicious deaths, is funny and sweetly nuts. Her thoughts of the team she and sheriff make make me roll my eyes a bit but I still it. Susan is rarely without her planner which I can appreciate. I my lists too and feel lost or will stand still with my eyes closed as I try to bring up what was on a particular one when without it in my possession.
I got more backstory on why she's uncomfortable with her parents. They show up here for her Susan's birthday and I don't them much, at least the mother. She's not supportive and digs every chance she gets into what she thinks of Susan's life choices. Thankfully the father is a bit better.
The mystery is good, two suspicious deaths and one in Susan's close proximity.
Super fun and I can definitely recommend this book, series and author.2022 cozy-amateur-sleuth kindle1 Barbara Hackel2,294 37

Another funny episode at Wits' End in Doyle, where UFOs (now called UAPs) are sought and squirrels are purported to be aliens. When Susan's parents, who are Forensic Accountants (spies), come to visit, it is much to Susan's anguish. Murder is always in the air in Doyle, and this time it starts with Susan's parents killing an assassin at the B&B. They call for removal, but spend several days moving the body around waiting for the pickup. Meanwhile a famous author who lives in town is murdered just hours after arguing with the parents. Susan is on the murder case with boyfriend Arsen's help.

The fun never ends as Susan tries to get the nerve to tell Arsen what her parent's real jobs are, failing miserably to get the job done. Susan is unintentionally hilarious, aided by her silly beagle named Bailey. The murders mount up, and many wonderful characters are added to the mix. A favorite was an elderly friend of Susan's Grandmother who posses Ninja stealth!

The book is fun from beginning to end, and has me looking forward to the upcoming release of the fifth book in the series. Delightful, and a darn good mystery. Kathryn454 3

Susan is involved in murder, yet again.

In this book we find out about her extremely controlling parents as they decide to vacation at her B&B and cause the first dead body. But never mind about that one! Her parents are suspects in a completely different murder. As usual, Susan believes only she can solve the crime and that no matter how often the sheriff tells her to stay away it's only code for "I want your help."

There are some good mis-directions and it's nice to see characters from the Doyle Witch series show up since they both take place in the same small town. Sandy4,721 37

Great cover! Great book!

Quirky fun

I really enjoy this series. This time our favorite UFO themed B&B owner is hosting her parents while trying to “help” Sheriff McCourt solve 2 murders. The body hidden in numerous places at the B&B doesn’t count. It’s the usual mayhem with twists and turns but it’s Susan’s realization of why her planner is important to her and seeing her finally stand up to her parents that makes the book satisfying. Crazy Murder

This was such a fun book to read. I love the characters. Susan's parents are a hoot! Overly protective, but they love their daughter. And the alien squirrel flyers just remind the reader of the history of Doyle. Two murders, an old lady who moves way too fast for any normal human, and a boyfriend who supports her 100%. Susan Whitsend is one blesses woman. Even if she depends a little too much on her planner! Can't wait for book 5! Mooncat228 2

Another whacky cozy mystery from Doyle - and with Susan’s parents staying for a visit and killing a spy she’s got a little more unpredictable crazies on her hands than even her planner can handle.
It was a fun read and kudos for crafting a case I actually wasn’t able to figure out correctly.
Only thing was that there was a lot less Arsen-scenes in this one. At least most of those that were there were real good ... Mousie108 1 follower

Bring on the squirrels...

What first attracted me to this book was the funny and colorful cover, with the squirrels and their outrageous expressions. I love squirrels - and it would have been great if they had figured more prominently in the story. But the squirrelly parts were good, and I was happy the author was sympathetic to them, and that nothing bad happened to the squirrels. R. JetlebAuthor 11 books5

A fun, quirky cozy mystery! Now I have to go back and read the first 3 in the series! Jodi Sweet1,485 6

This was pretty crazy! Alien squirrels? Spy parents and a murdered assassin. Insanity rules in Doyle, California! I loved how things played out. I was pretty surprised. Loved it.

I was so happy to see that there were two of these I hadn't read yet. Didn't disappoint! Cally Walker476
